Bellevue Club Honors the Memory of Past President Chuck Simonson one of our longest Division 28 members.

In memory of Chuck Simonson … The Bellevue Kiwanis Board and Club honor Chuck Simonson. Chuck was a long time CPA in the Bellevue area and joined Kiwanis in 1959. During his tenure he developed many political, social and business connections in the community and held every official position to develop and support the club. He also has family members who were part of the first Kiwanis Club which was started in Detroit. He started and chaired our annual Sports Awards banquet (1964) and Choral Awards (1968) which makes

sense since he played both basketball and baseball for UCLA some 70 years ago. Chuckles (as he was lovingly known to us) was also active in getting a new scoreboard for Bellevue high school, building the Hidden Valley baseball park and instrumental in forming the Bellevue Kiwanis Foundation, providing financial advice for many, many years. At 90+ years old Chuck was the backbone of our club, using his vast experience and undaunted support to expand our community service with the Highland Center commercial kitchen project, monthly feeding programs and annual BBQ fundraiser. His passion for service and commitment to Kiwanis for over 58 years will never be

forgotten.

8/27/16 Chuck next to Harry Dingwall (our oldest living Kiwanian in our Div. and PNW. KI Art Riley Vice-President Elect. From left: Earl Peterson, Evan Shultz, Art Riley,

Jerry Torell, Ferrin Lauve, Rex Smith, Craig Doty, Chuck, Harry. Front Becky Wilder, Mrs. Riley.

Carla Marrow is one of the newest members of Bellevue Kiwanis, joining the club in November 2016. A Bellevue native since 1973, she spent 32 years in technology (Hewlett Packard & Microsoft) raised two children and worked in the community as an Associate Girl Scout Leader, President BHS Belair Jazz Choir Boosters, BBGC Basketball Coach and Medina Elementary PTSA Carnival chair. Since joining Kiwanis, she has taken on the role of secretary, is a Key Club adviser for Newport High, loves to tinker with the club’s website and can’t think of anything more rewarding than finding ways to serve the community. She is a very conscientious secretary and website administrator of the Bellevue Club. She is VP-Elect of the Bellevue Club and will be their president in the year 2019-20. They just currently had a fundraising at the Bellevue Arts Fair.

Ltg. Becky Wilder – talked about the importance of the K-Family and encouraged Kiwanis Club Officers and Key Club Advisors to attend their meeting at least twice a year (club meetings opening and closing) to get to know the officers and members of their sponsored Key Clubs. They are the future Kiwanians. To have a meeting with their sponsored club officers in a board meeting in May to have the Key Club plans of the year approved by the Kiwanis Club as required by KI. This is also to make sure that the Key Clubs include the Kiwanis sponsor clubs activities in their yearly plan and also to make sure that they give priority to the events of their Kiwanis sponsors. For Key Clubs to prioritize Kiwanis events, it is strongly suggested to give incentives to Key Clubbers for their DCON expenses. The Kiwanis Club is required to have the Youth Protection Guidelines presented to their club every year and that every Kiwanis member should know about the guidelines. It is online and attached in the email. How to go online for Kiwanis Education: https://reporting.kiwanisone.org/ this will take you to Portal Buzz Sign-in, use your email and create a password if you have not registered a password.
