Since opening in 2013, Five Star Stadium has served as the home of Mercer University's football and lacrosse programs. The current seating capacity at Five Star Stadium is 10,200.

Nearly 400,000 fans have witnessed the Bears play 35 home games at Five Star Stadium over the past six seasons. With an average of 10,237 fans at each home game, Mercer has ranked inside the top 25 of NCAA Divison I FCS programs for attendance. The Bears own an impressive 24-11 (.685) all-time record at Five Star Stadium and a 99-56-3 (.636) mark in all games played in Macon dating back to 1892.

Roughly two years after Mercer University's Board of Trustees voted to reinstate football, the school broke ground & unveiled plans for the Tony & Nancy Moye Football & Lacrosse Complex during a Homecoming weekend ceremony on Nov.

11, 2012. Held adjacent to the construction site, the ceremony was attended by several hundred faculty, staff, students, trustees & Middle Georgia community members.

Included in the complex are the Homer & Ruth Drake Field House, the William H. Anderson II Family Field, the Marshall & the Jane Butler Family Plaza. HOW MERCER FARES AGAINST...SOUTHERN CONFERENCE (47-63-5)

LAST TIME VS. THE CITADEL Mercer suffered its first Southern Conference loss of the 2018 season in heartbreaking fashion, 38-31, to The Citadel in front of a sold-out crowd of 11,772 at Five Star Stadium last September. The Citadel scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to stun the Bears, who entered the final quarter with a 24-17 advantage. After Mercer tied the game, 31-31, on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Robert Riddle to David Durden with one minute and 11 seconds re-maining, The Citadel's Rod Johnson returned the following kickoff 94 yards for the eventual game-winning score.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS The Citadel has had a magical 2019 season, defeating Georgia Tech in Atlanta earlier in the year and knocking off No. 8 Furman in dominating fashion last Saturday.

The Bulldogs sport one of the nation's top rushing offenses, running the "Wing-T" or triple option offense nearly to perfection. They rank eighth nationally in rushing offense and lead the FCS in time of possession - 36:03 minutes per game.

START FAST The Bears outscored opponents 35-14 in the first quarter and 70-14 in the first half of the first two games this season - Mercer led Western Carolina, 42-14, and Presbyterian, 28-0, at halftime.

EARLY CONTRIBUTIONS Mercer saw key contributions from previously "inexperienced" players early this season.

Redshirt freshman running back Deondre Johnson carried the ball 44 times for a team-leading 378 yards and three touch-downs this year. Johnson currently ranks 29th in the FCS in rushing yards.

At Presbyterian, redshirt sophomore Rob Lake made Mercer football history on his first ca-reer reception. Robert Riddle hit Lake in stride for a 98-yard touchdown pass - the longest play from scrimmage in school history and the longest in all of Division I college football this season.

SOCON MANMercer's Bobby Lamb enters his 16th season with a career record of 104-71. Lamb is fourth in league history with 96 wins as a So-Con coach, as he was 10-2 in 2013, when the Bears were members of the Pioneer Football League.

Lamb is in his seventh season at Mercer and sixth since the Bears joined the SoCon. His first nine seasons as a head coach were spent at Furman.

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZEDMercer's senior nose tackle Dorian Kithcart has emerged as a candidate for several national service-related awards for his off-the-field work in the community and the classroom.

In July, Kithcart was named a candidate for the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, honoring the "extra efforts" made by college football players and student support staff off the field. Late in September, Kithcart was listed as one of 39 FCS players named as a semifinalist for the National Football Founda-tion's William V. Campbell Trophy -- the only semifinalist from the SoCon.

Beware the Bears' Den. When the Bears are active, there is a deafening roar from its #comMUnity. The support has made Five Star Stadium one of the toughest places to play in the FCS; Mercer is an impressive 24-11 at home since 2013.

DRAW FOURMercer was picked to finish fourth and fifth in the SoCon preseason poll by the league's media and coaches, respectively. The Bears have finished seventh (2014), sixth (2015, 2018) and fifth (2016, 2017) since joining the SoCon in 2014.

Mercer's predicted fourth-place finish in the media poll matches its highest selection since also appearing fourth in the preseason media poll in 2016.

PRESEASON HONORSSeven Bears were named to the 2019 Presea-son All-SoCon Teams, including a duo of First Team selections on offense.

START OFF STRONG Mercer improved to 5-2 in season openers since its program was revived in 2013. The Bears' losses in a season opener were a one-point loss to No. 15 The Citadel in 2016 and last season at Memphis.

MAGIC NUMBER Since revamping the program in the 2013 sea-son, Mercer is 25-7 in games when it ran for at least 200 yards as a team. However, the Bears are 8-15 when giving up 200+ yards on the ground.

RED MEANS GO

The Bears excelled in the red zone offen-sively & defensively last season, a trend that continued through the first game of the new season - as the Bears were 3-for-3 scoring on red zone trips in the opener at WCU. Mercer ranked third nationally in red zone offense, scoring on 92 percent of its trips (35-for-38), including 25 touchdowns in 2018.

Defensively, Mercer ranked 21st nationally in the red zone in 2018, allowing scores on just 74 percent of opponents' trips. The Bears held the Catamounts to 2-for-4 (.500) in the red zone, good enough for 10th nationally.

HURRICANE DORIANMercer and Presbyterian's "pop-up" matchup in September can be credited to former Cate-gory 5 Hurricane Dorian. The Blue Hose were scheduled to open their season at Stetson in DeLand, Fla., the Saturday before - but in lieu of the impending hurricane, the game was canceled.

L.O.C. DOWN "D"Mercer's defense assumed the name, "Legion of Chaos", shortened to "L.O.C." in the 2017 season. With good reason, it stuck, after the Bears led the SoCon in turnovers gained (25), largely due to a FCS-leading 16 fumbles recovered.

Mercer has led the SoCon in turnover margin in three of its five seasons as a league mem-ber, further proving the chaos the unit invokes on opposing offenses.

NEW LEADERSHIPHead coach Bobby Lamb added six new coaches to his staff for the 2019 season, in-cluding DC/ILB coach Mike Adams, OLB coach Matthew Fleischacker, TE coach Chase Haslett, DL coach Jeremy Hawkins, OC/QB coach Bill Legg and CB coach Leon Wright.

BOBBY LAMB - HEAD COACHSince guiding the Bears through a return to the gridiron in 2013, following a 72-year hiatus, Bobby Lamb has continued to build the Mercer football program into a focal point of Macon and the surrounding Middle Georgia communities.

Lamb enters his seventh season as Mercer’s head football coach in 2019 and will lead a squad that returns 16 starters from the year prior and placed seven student-athletes on the 2019 Preseason All-Southern Conference team. Named the 19th head football coach in program history in 2011, Lamb led the Bears to immediate success in their first season of action in 2013, claiming the third 10-win season of his coaching career and setting the NCAA Division I record for wins by a first-year program with a 10-2 campaign. Since 2013 he has led Mercer to wins against four nationally-ranked FCS teams, including No. 3 Chattanooga in 2015.

During his tenure guiding Furman’s program, Lamb had a 67-40 record (.626) as its head coach. He led the Paladins to winning records in eight of his nine seasons and made four trips to the NCAA I-AA (now Football Championship Series) playoffs, reaching the quar-terfinals in 2004 and the semifinals in 2005. Lamb is a 1982 graduate of Commerce (Ga.) High School and went on to earn his B.A. in health and exercise science from Furman in 1987. He also earned his M.Ed. degree from Furman in health and exercise science in 1992. Lamb, who was born on Christmas Eve in 1962, is married to the former Allyson Acker. The couple has two children: a daughter, Sallie, and a son, Taylor.
