Program Model• Kindergarten through 2nd Grades
• Literacy (Reading, Writing, and Word Study) is taught in Spanish with an English Bridge*
• Math is taught in Spanish with an English Bridge• Science and Social Studies are taught in English
with a Spanish Bridge• 3rd through 5th Grades
• All subjects taught in both languages* The Bridge is a planned time at the end of the unit when academic content is transferred to the other language, there is a contrastive analysis of the two languages, and/or metalinguistic awareness is developed.
Explicit instruction that focuses on the development of the vocabulary necessary to communicate in English what is already known in Spanish and vice versa. This is not re-teaching the concept. The bridge occurs at the end of the unit.

• Same assessment measures as all CCISD students
• Language for state assessment decisions for grades 3-5 are made on an individual basis
• Language Progress Reports & Report Cards issued every 9 weeks
