THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST - JUNE 14, 2020

Real Communion

“The Body of Christ” refers to the church as well as to the Eucharist. When we share in the Body and Blood of Christ, we have communion with God and with one another. Jesus is present to us in many ways. We hear his voice in the gospel. We experience his love in our community. We receive him sacramentally in the Eucharist. We are called the Body of Christ because Christ dwells with us.

St. Paul wrote the Corinthians, “Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.” When we receive communion we experience our communion with one another. Many though we are, we are one in Christ. Just as many grains of wheat make one loaf, just as one loaf is shared by many people, just as many people become one by sharing that one loaf, so do we many become one in Christ. Jesus unites our community when we share our communion together.

Paul’s words were especially significant to the Corinthians. He began this letter addressing the divisions in their church and calling the faithful there to unity. At this point in his letter, we understand why. Their unity in the church is critical to the integrity of their worship.

If our Eucharist is to be sincere, our communion must be real. We eat the Body of Christ. We drink the Blood of Christ. We are the Body of Christ.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST - JUNE 14, 2020

Are You Thirsting For God?

Are you someone who would like to learn more about your Catholic Faith? Do you know someone not baptized or baptized in a non-Catholic Christian tradition, who is thirsting for what it means to become Catholic?

Do you know someone already Catholic but has not yet re-ceived Confirmation & Communion?

Others may be thirsting too…

For each of us faith is a journey marked with moments of conversion along the way…we move from unbelief to initial faith, from sin to repentance, from painful isolation to the joyful experience of a loving community, from fear to love.

Faith, conversion, repentance, celebration and community ---five basic elements that are present in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The RCIA provides a setting where the journey of faith and moments of conversion can be cele-brated within the local Church community.

RCIA is a place to ask questions and seek understanding. Come and See! Invite a friend! All are Welcome! RCIA meets Sunday’s at Little Flower School from 10:15 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. For more information, contact the Parish Office at (301)994-0525.

Like Mary and Joseph, families have a

mission to welcome Jesus into their

homes and lives, to “listen to him, speak

with him, take care of him, protect him

and grow with him, and in this way

improve the world.” -Pope Francis

Sunday Faith Formation serves all parish children.

Weekly sessions for Pre-K through 8th Grade meet

on Sundays from 10:15am to 11:20am. Two years

of faith formation are usually required prior to

reception of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation,

Eucharist and Confirmation. We always welcome

new team members as catechists, substitutes, hall

monitors and teen assistants.

Faith Formation Calendar

Classes have ended for this school year. We look forward to seeing you in

September.

In these trying times we all need a little boost. Please consider joining our small, informal Bible Study group as we continue or study on David and the Psalms. This series was written by Fr. Joseph Ponessa and Laurie Watson Manhardt, and covers the Book of Psalms, Ruth, and 1 and 2 Samuel with video presentations to help expand upon what is read. For more information please and the zoom meeting number call or text Susan Baker at 301-904-7404.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST - JUNE 14, 2020

Knights of Columbus

Grand Knight Charles Shilling

301-535-8339

[email protected]

Patriotism – Members of the Knights of Columbus are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. Over the past few months our nation has increasingly come under attack from radical leftists in media, government, big tech and groups such as ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter. Their aim: to undermine our constitution and implement Marxist doctrine. The radical left’s tactics include intimidation through violence, racial division, propaganda and disinformation. These tactics are taken directly from leftist playbooks used most recently in Venezuela, but also outlined in books such as Saul Alinsky’s, “Rules for Radicals”. EWTN aired a special, “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing”, which detailed the left’s attempt to infiltrate the Catholic Church with objective of undermining the family and Christian values. Unfortunately, they have had some success. During the pandemic we got insight into how the left views the church as “nonessential” whereas abortion clinics, liquor stores, marijuana distributors were considered, “essential”. Families attending church services and funerals were arrested and fined, however rioting and looting was encouraged by the media and government officials in “blue states”. Fortunately, our president stands in solidarity with the church in protecting the innocent and defending religious liberty. For this he has been viciously attacked on all fronts. The truth and facts matter. The facts are that this president has signed more Executive Orders (EO) to protect religious liberty than any president in our lifetime, maybe of any president. He is the most Pro-Life president in history and the only one to attend the March for Life. Following a visit to the Knights of Columbus-run Saint Pope John Paul II National Shrine, he signed an EO to enforce advocacy for religious minorities abroad, a vigorous defense of Religious Freedom rights for all. The former nuncio to the U.S., Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, wrote a letter praising the president's resolve in response to recent events and talked of “two opposing sides” made up of “children of light and children of darkness,” the latter of whom he said wish to “demolish the family and nation”. Link to article: https://www.ncregister.com/blog/edward-pentin/president-trump-tweets-thanks-to-archbishop-vigano.

Remember, seek truth. Never trust the narrative and lies you hear from the media. One of their “go to” approaches: repeat the lie often enough and people will start to believe it, and if it begins to lose impact, make the next lie even bigger. Do your homework!

Keep the president and our nation in your prayers and stand strong in our fight for religious liberty.

THE MOST HOLY TRINITY - JUNE 7, 2020

Prayer for Justice

Come, O Holy Spirit

Come, open us to the wonder, beauty and dignity of the diversi-

ty found in each culture in each face, and in each experience

we have of the other among us.

Come, heal the divisions that keep us from seeing the face of

Christ in all men, women, and children.

Come, free us to stand with those who cry out for justice and for

those who must leave their own lands in order to find work,

security, and welcome in a new land.

Come, bring us to understanding, inspiration, wisdom, and the

courage needed to embrace change and stay on the journey.

Come, O Holy Spirit, show us the way.
