ORDER OF WORSHIP

PREPARATION FOR WORSHIPMay the strength of God pilot us. May the power of God preserve us. May the wisdom of God instruct us. May the hand of God protect us. May the way of God direct us. May the host of God guard us against the snares and temptations of the world. May Christ be with us. Christ before us. Christ in us, Christ over us. May your salvation, O God, be always ours this day and for evermore. Amen.

Adapted from prayer of St. Patrick, 5th Century

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIPFor some of us, it was tempting to “sleep in” this morning.

But God has called us to this place – to hear God’s word, to open our hearts in prayer and praise, and to seek direction for our lives.

There are many temptations placed in front of us. We are called to be strong and place our trust in God.God is always faithful to us, comforting, guiding, lifting us.

PROCESSION OF GOD’S LIGHT AND WORD Acolyte: Jillian EiermannAs the acolyte lights the candle, we remember that Christ is the Light of the world.

CALL TO CONFESSIONGod makes no distinction between us.

We are all sinners, we are all children of God, we are all precious to God, and we are all saved by God.

Because God makes no distinction, let us confess our common humanity to the One who is generous to all.

PRAYER OF CONFESSIONGod of our ancestors and God of our children, we come knowing we have preferred to test you, rather than to trust you. The famine in our souls makes us long to be filled with the empty promises of the world. We listen to the soothing words of the advertisers, rather than to the uncomfortable words of discipleship.Forgive us, God of our lives. Bring us out of that dependence on ourselves, and bring us into the presence of the One we seek to follow forever,Jesus the Christ, our light and our life.
