Dear Friends of William Temple House,

On behalf of the Board of Directors thank you for your support as William Temple House strove to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger and counsel the alienated during the past year.

WILLIAM TEMPLE HOUSE 3

Dear Friends,

I’m so pleased to thank you for your tremendous support of William Temple House during 2013.

With your help, we are regaining financial ground lost during the economic downturn and are exploring effective and efficient ways to meet the needs of the working poor people who turn to William Temple House

for a hand up.

The Board of Directors and I are proud to report that William Temple House is on solid financial ground. As we enter our 49th year, the agency is poised to provide mental health counseling and emergency social services well into our second half century.

While we are proud that William Temple House is strong today we do wish that the progress made during 2013 was universal.

Unfortunately many working poor families continue to struggle and one in five families in the Portland area is living in or near poverty. Economic recovery has not filtered down to the working poor.

Many of the individuals and moms and dads who turn to William Temple House are working only part-time and not by choice. Full-time living wage jobs remain difficult to find especially for those without strong skill

sets.

Providing food, clothing and shelter for your family is almost impossible when Mom and Dad are working minimum wage jobs with few or no benefits or, worse, still can’t find work.

William Temple House pledges to live our mission in 2014…to restore hope and renew strength in individuals and families by:

• Feeding the hungry, clothing children, and providing other material assistance through emergency social services.

• Caring for the troubled and mentally ill through our mental health counseling program.

• Welcoming the stranger and providing spiritual support to those who request it through our voluntary pastoral care program.

• Providing low-cost clothing and material necessities through our Thrift Store.

My prayer is that you and your loved ones have been spared many struggles and that you share our belief that together we can make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors.

I look forward to our continued partnership in 2014.

Warmest regards,

Allen L. Hunt Executive Director
