Sight words are words that are used frequently in texts and automatic recognition of these words is required for fluent reading . There are 100 sight words in total and these will be sent home in lots of 25 over the course of the year. Please keep these cards at home, DO NOT send them to school every day in their home reading folders. When you think your child knows all 25 words, place the corresponding slip below into the note tray in the classroom and return the cards to school (in their home reading folder) so that your child can be tested. Process for practicing the words : 1. show your child the card and have them tell you the word If they do not know the word: 2. read the sentence to your child, pointing to each word as you read it 3. ask the child again, what the word is (pointing to the word in the sentence). 4. repeat steps 2 & 3 if needed before telling the child what the word is.
