BACKGROUND
Under the visionary leadership of Hon’bleDr.Akshai K. Aggarwal, Vice chancellor, GTU
Innovation Council (GIC) has started its mission for Intellectual Property (IP) literacy for
faculty members and students since September 2011. Till today GIC has organised more than
70 workshops for faculty members and students, based on various themes on IPR and Patent.
To assist and motivate such students to decide whether their projects are patentable or not,
under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of GTU, Dr. Akshai K.
Aggarwal, Gujarat Technological University has launched unique program named “Patent
Clinic”. If the projects are patentable, then drafting and filing the Provisional Patent
applications is the second objective. GTU has successfully organized two days’ workshop on
“Patent Search, Drafting & Filing” (20th Patent Clinic) at GTU Chandkheda campus,
Ahmedabad on 18th
& 19th
September 2015 (Friday and Saturday).
It’s a unique initiative started by GIC to provide all possible assistance to students and faculty
members from any branch of science or technology, to file patent for his/her innovative work
or project. Patent Clinic is a two days’ workshop in which GIC organizes seminars and
workshops on basics of IPR/Patents, Patent Prior Art Search Techniques and its importance,
Patenting System in India and hands on exercises to draft patents. The whole program is
delivered absolutely free of cost to students and faculty members of GTU.

and organizations as resource persons for Patent Search and for the procedure of filing
applications for patent. The issues of types of patent applications, requirements for
provisional patent application, explanation for various patent application forms and fees,
patent and/or literature searching and drafting of provisional patent application for each
individual innovative project were discussed at 20th
PC programme. Students were motivated
to file their inventions in form of patent application.

Feedbacks from the participants about 21st Patent Clinic programs
Good workshop for student to file patent for their new innovative ideas.
Parth Patel, SPCE-Visnagar, Information Technology
It was a quite helpful and fruitful workshop. It included all important aspects regarding
patent and patent filing. All the speakers were well experienced and competent. Lectures
were delivered in effective chronology. Each inventor was guided separately for his
inventions patent filing. Do’s and Don’ts for patent filing were discussed with examples,
which was really helpful.
Zala Sanjay Harishchandrasinh, GEC Bhavnagar Mechanical
After attending this program, I learnt about patent and how to protect our invention through
patent.
Patel Vimal,KJIT Savli, Electrical
The seminar was really a good experience and all the basic ideas have been provided to us
for patent filing. Protection of invention is very necessary and if it is from student then it
tends to be the investment of student for the future by the invention. Hence, really a good
exposure as an UG student for me. But, now it is my duty to initiate my work as a patentee
and hope I will get every help from GTU till the end of my final application of patent.
Shivam Singh Rajput, Mahavir Swami College of Engineering & Technology Electrical
It is very helpful to us and also received new ideas from expert suggestion.
AgravatMahima, KJITSavli, Electrical
It is a useful workshop for directing the right way to secure the patents of the inventors.
NameataGadani, L. D. College of Engineering, Electronics and Communication
This workshop had cleared my doubt about patent. A very helpful step from GTU Innovation
Council.
NiravParmar. A. D Patel Institute of Technology, Thermal Engineering
Every citizen across the world has right to protect its invention with the help to doing patent
filing. This is very helpful to us & all the credit goes to GIC and GTU for organizing such a
wonderful programmer.
