In line with the “Digital India” initiative NTPC steps towards digitization by implementation of companywide

paperless office to save on expensive office space and paper use. The initiative will cover all NTPC projects and

offices and will be rolled out in phased manner, helping in optimum utilization of the available space, easy retrieval of

old records and promote clean office environment. Digitizing records and printed literature makes it easy to share

documents electronically and lowers the temptation to make photocopies.

Company has already introduced e-tender, invoice monitoring system, grievance management and digitized notice

boards at all locations. The digitization process in Legal, Company Secretariat and Corporate Communication has

been started in the first phase comprising more than 4 million documents.

NETRA (NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance) has installed India’s first of its kind, indigenously

developed, high temperature (designed for 1500 Deg C) Drop Tube Reactor (DTR) system recently. The DTR

system is used for combustion characterization of coal/biomass and is used for designing Advanced Ultra

Super critical Technology and reducing carbon footprint from the fossil fuel plants.

Photogrammetry System of Solar Thermal Lab has also been installed and commissioned by M/s DLR,

Germany at NETRA under Indo German R&D cooperation with the German grant. System installed for the

first time in the country to measure 3D spatial coordinates of ‘point cloud’ of solar concentrators and help in

understanding its integrity.

NTPC-NETRA and CSIR-Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee have developed high strength fly ash

based geopolymer concrete for construction of road as per IRC specifications. A Geopolymer concrete road

stretch of 50m length and 3m width with 40MPa concrete strength has been laid successfully at CSIR-CBRI,

Roorkee using NTPC Dadri fly ash, first of its kind in India. This Geopolymer road will not require water curing as

required by cement concrete road and also paves the way for bulk fly ash utilization.

The pedal powered generator designed by Windstream, an

OEM manufacturer located in Vermont, USA is perfect for

emergencies, power failures, remote locations, and off-grid

applications. It can be pedaled or cranked by hand to charge

12 volt batteries and run small appliances. The typical average

continuous power that can be generated by pedaling the

Human Power Generator is up to about 80 watts. The

maximum power obtainable through hand cranking typically is

about 50 watts.

The pedals and optional hand-cranks are interchangeable.

Re-engineered for more strength, easier adjustment, and

smooth operation, the new Human Power Generator is the tool

for energy education and self-reliant electrical production.

Windstream is well positioned to take center stage as one of

the only established makers of human-powered generators.

That Indian Railways is building the world's highest

railway bridge is a well known fact for many. What is

less known is that this arch bridge, being built over the

Chenab river in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, is

taller than Paris' famous Eiffel Tower! The Chenab

river rail bridge, designed by consultants from Finland

and Germany, is 'blast proof' and is being built to

withstand earthquakes.

The bridge will be 1.315-km-long and is being built at a

height of 359 metres above the Chenab river. This

bridge shall be 35 metres taller than the Eiffel tower!

and will have stations at both the ends.According to

Indian Railways, the second and third highest railway

arch bridges are Najiehe Railway bridge (at a height of 310 m) at Liuchangxiang, Guizhou, China and Bejpan

River Shuibai Railway bridge (at a height of 275 m) at Liupanshui, Guizhou, China. DRDO works closely with

Indian Railways to make sure that the Rs 12,000-crore bridge can withstand any major blast in the region. To

enhance the safety and security, the bridge is being made of 63 mm-thick special blast-proof steel. Steel is

economical and can take temperatures as low as 20 degrees Celsius. This is a crucial factor, given the location of

the bridge. Additionally, steel can resist speed of above 250 kmph as well.

About 24,000-plus tonnes of steel will be used in the construction of the bridge.
