Loretta and I would like to thank all the members of the Gold Leaf Club for a fantastic 2013. There were many highlights during the year. April saw a group of intrepid Gold Leaf travelers have a wonderful adventure in Portugal and the amazing Azores. It was a little “off the beaten path,” and that turned out to be a real strength of the tour! We’re trying that concept again with our visit to Croatia this coming September, and space is still available. So, if you like the idea of seeing a beautiful “hidden corner” of Europe with good friends, give us a call. 2013 also saw the introduction of what turned out to be a fantastic success — the $59 Gold Leaf Mystery tours. Don’t worry, we have more of these fun daytrips scheduled for 2014! We’ve also put together a great series of summer theater daytrips. Just a quick look at the plays and restaurants we selected and you will want to sign up for all three. There are many other tours and events coming up in 2014, and and Loretta and I look forward to spending the year with all of you. Happy Travels!

A History tourWings Over St. Louis

St. Louis has played an important role in the history of aviation, and there is still a lot to see from this rich heritage. And of course the Gold Leaf Club will make it FUN. Our day will include a visit to the McDonnel-Douglas Prologue Room near Lambert Airport. We will then head across the river to visit the Museum of Space and Aviation at St. Louis Downtown Airport. While there, we will have lunch at Spinner’s Restaurant, which overlooks the runways right there at the airport. After lunch we will take a look at cavernous, empty St. Louis Mid-America Airport, a basically unused facility that some call “a $330-million boondoggle.”

A History tour

Summer Show Seriesat the Lyceum

The Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock is presenting one of the finest lineups of plays inits history in 2014, and we’ve got great seats for what we think are the best of the lot.

Our theater trips will include lunch at great local restaurants, surprises anda post-theatre stop for homemade desserts and coffee at the Blackwater Station.

“Ring of Fire: the music of Johnny Cash”Date: Wednesday, Sept. 3Cost: $85 includes transportation, show ticket, lunch and dessert stopLunch at: J. Huston Inn

“Ring of Fire” is inspired by the Academy Award-winning film “Walk the Line” and tells the life story of Johnny Cash through his incredible music. A story of love and faith, success and struggle, failure and redemption as Johnny lived and sang it, this show will both move and exhilarate.

“Spamalot”Date: Wednesday, July 16Cost: $85 includes transportation, show ticket, lunch and dessert stopLunch at: Chez Trappier

Spamalot is a musical comedy “lovingly ripped-off” from what many consider to be the funniest movie of all time, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” Follow the misadventures of King Arthur and his trusty sidekick, Patsy, as they search for the Holy Grail with brave, brave Sir Robin, Sir Dennis the dashingly handsome, and Sir Bedevere, the strangely flatulent. Needless to say, “Spamalot” is a hysterical and irreverent parody that will make you laugh and blush at the same time.

“The King and I”Date: Friday, June 13Cost: $85 includes transportation, show ticket, lunch and dessert stopLunch at: Catawpa Restaurant

A jewel in the crown of the magnificent career of Rogers and Hammerstein, this play tells the story of Anna and the King of Siam, roles made immortal by Julie Andrews and Yul Brenner. Songs include “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Getting to Know You” and “Shall We Dance.”

original HometoWn?I count myself fortunate to having been born in Fulton and being a native Callawegian. I have fond memories as a child.

HoW long Have you beenin banking? I have been in banking for more than 30 years. The last 11 years have been at The Callaway Bank.

tell us about your Firstposition Here:I joined The Callaway Bank in 2002 as Executive Vice President. However, that job function has evolved over the last 11 years. When I joined The Callaway Bank, the organization was not as complex or as diversified as today. The bank was beginning its expansion into Columbia and I spent a good deal of time in Callaway and Boone Counties. Lending was robust so not only did I have management and operational duties in two separate markets; I was also very much a hands on real estate and commercial lender. Over time, the bank restructured management to have individual market presidents to oversee the core banking functions in the bank’s two distinct regions. I was honored to be designated the Callaway County market President.

WHat is your FonDest memoryoF Working at tCb? I don’t know that I could single out any one “fondest memory.” It is more like a kaleidoscope of memories. Certainly being able to work closely with Bruce Harris, but also working with such a great group of bankers at The Callaway Bank. I have many happy reflections of helping people finance homes and businesses. I have had personal satisfaction of being a mentor to younger bankers and seeing them grow professionally. Contributing to the growth of The Callaway Bank, helping the bank to overcome challenges and to see the bank prosper are all parts of what I hold in my memory.

Community involvement:I am fortunate to have been involved in many different organizations, whether as an elected public official, government appointee, serving as a representative on economic development groups, being a member of civic organizations or acting as a volunteer with community betterment groups. Personally as well as professionally, I have felt it is important to be involved. I have been the beneficiary of the collective wisdom of so many people and I am very thankful for those opportunities.
