FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION
"O Come, O Come Emmanuel" is a much-loved hymn sung during the Advent season, expressing hope in the coming of God's promised savior. Sometimes, as today's scripture readings remind us, we let the season of Advent become a whirl of buying gifts, decorating the house, going to parties and other activities. Instead of bringing joy, all this can actually heighten our stress. That's when we need to slow down and remember Emmanuel. The very meaning of "Emmanuel" is "God with us." Rejoice! God is with us! Meditate on this in the busy days ahead and turn to God to relieve your stress. Then think about how you might be "Emmanuel" to someone in need this season. The poor. The sick. The lonely. As today’s second reading instructs us – "increase and abound in love for one another." Today's Faith Moment was provided by Christ the King Seminary. You can listen to Faith Moments on WLOF 101.7 FM, WBEN radio 930 AM, or at www.faithmomentsonline.org.
VOCATIONS CORNER
Christ will come again! This we have been promised. The same Christ has called us all to different vocations, and some of these include Holy Orders and Religious Life. What greater way is there to honor our Lord and King than by faithfully answering His call. If God is calling you to a church vocation, call our pastor, Fr. Steve, or Fr. Andrew Lauricella at (716) 847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories at www.buffalovocations.org.
All St. Vincent de Paul meetings will now be the first Wednesday of each month at 12 PM at St. Edmund Campus. The following are scheduled meeting dates: December 5, January 2 and February 6. You may contact Zach Vanderbrook or John Borczynski at (716) 692-2660, ext.
402, with any questions.

Our next Neighbors in Need dinner will be held on the second Saturday in December, the 8th. St. Vincent de Paul Ministry will be hosting a Christmas Dinner, and are in need of volunteers for set up beginning at 5:30 PM and
assisting until 7:30. We are also asking for donations, such as side dishes (potato or macaroni salads) and dessert items like pies and brownies. Monetary donations are always appreciated! Last month, we had more than 30 neighbors visit us, and a very festive atmosphere was provided by the Christian Service Committee. Please email David Pohl at [email protected] or call/text (248) 760-9876.

Dear Family,
Welcome to the season of Advent! This is an unusual season for us Catholics! We are so used to thinking of Advent as a time of preparation for the celebration of Christmas. And that is one aspect of Advent! However, Advent actually has a two-fold purpose. Our readings today give us insight into this unique season. The First Reading from the Book of Jeremiah confirms the concept of preparation for Christmas. The prophecy that is laid out in that reading is of the coming Messiah. The thing that we need to keep in mind is that that event took place more than 2000 years ago! The Messiah was born in Bethlehem! Our Christmas celebration is the anniversary of that amazing event when God appeared as one of us, taking on human flesh and being born of Mary. Our Gospel Reading from St. Luke has Jesus pointing us to the end times when Jesus will come again. That is the other purpose of Advent. The Church calls us to prepare for that time when Jesus will appear in all His glory, when time and creation as we know it will cease and we will all stand before God in His presence for all eternity. Jesus warns us to be prepared for that day so that we are not caught unaware and not in a state of grace. Our Second Reading from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians gives us a mini-course in how to live our lives as Christian people. These will be the themes of the readings for the weeks of Advent. Let us take heed of the call of the Church to prepare ourselves and to always be ready to meet Jesus whenever He comes for us! Let us all take advantage of the opportunities at our parish to spend time away from the busyness of shopping and baking and decorating and wrapping and meet Jesus in these days!
Praised Be Jesus Christ…Now and Forever!!!
Fr. Steve
The Seniors send a huge round of applause to Terry and Tom Reinagel who organized our Memorial Mass and luncheon. They did a fine job and we really appreciate their
efforts. As we enter the Advent season, we tend to overwhelm ourselves with decorating, sending cards, buying presents, baking cookies, and making travels plans. Let’s remember to take time to prepare ourselves for the Coming of the Christ Child. The Seniors will gather once more at Classics V Terrace Room on Wednesday, December 12 at noon. Jim and Janice Hoeflich are chairing our Christmas Celebration. Looking forward to seeing you. If there are any questions, please contact Sandy Radens at (716) 868-2865.
HELP WANTED
We are looking to fill a custodial position in the Parish and School. This is a full-time opening and duties include maintaining cleanliness of all facilities, all grounds work, snow removal, as well as other maintenance and repair work as assigned. This position includes weekend hours. With any questions and if you are interested in applying, please contact Marie Schwab at (716) 692-2660 or [email protected].
PARISH ADVENT RETREAT AND PENANCE SERVICE
Join your parish family at 7 PM in the church on Monday, December 3 and Tuesday, December 4 as Fr. Steve leads us into and through the season of Advent! Fr. Steve will be using
selected Advent hymns, some very well known and others that are not, to explain the theology of Advent and why the Catholic Church puts so much emphasis on this season rather than jumping right into Christmas! We will then have our Parish Advent Penance Service on Wednesday, December 5 at 7 PM in the church. There will be many visiting priests to hear individual confessions. Please give yourself the gift of this quiet and prayerful time with God as we prepare for the great celebration of Christmas!
OPLATEK WAFERS Christmas Wafers will be available starting
December 8 in the Parish Office during
office hours and in the Narthex following
Masses, for a donation of $1.

Parish Outreach Christmas Wish Tree
St. Christopher’s Parish Outreach & the Christian Service Committee decorated the Wish Tree in the Narthex the week of November 11 with ornaments
requesting gifts for children from ages newborn - 13.
If you would like to provide a gift for a child:
Purchase the gift or gift card and return unwrapped as soon as possible or by Friday, December 7.
Please attach the ornament to your gift. Gifts can be returned to the Parish Outreach on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 AM until 2 PM or to the Parish Office.
If you cannot find the requested gift, you may substitute the gift with a similar item.
The tree is up so early in the Narthex because we need the gifts back by early December to get them ready to give to our families.
Thank you for helping Outreach share the joy of Christmas with our families! Please call the Parish Outreach Office at (716) 692-2660 Ext. 402 if you have any questions.
We've heard about Global warming/Climate Change and even our Pope Francis is gravely concerned about it's affect on our home, our planet Earth. He has written a letter, an encyclical called "Laudato Si", expressing how we need to rethink and change the way we
use the goods of the earth. You can check this out yourself! Go online to look at this encyclical.

SPEND TIME IN ADORATION
Jesus chose the desert as a place to pray in solitude. He fought temptation, the temptations of the devil himself. He taught us how to be victorious over temptation. We must desire victory over it. Call upon the Lord to help you fight temptation, any temptation, every temptation. Often, we crowd out the opportunity to be victorious for Christ. We allow "My schedule", "My time",
"My life" to come before the voice of Christ which says, "Come to Me". When we permit this, temptation wins. Think about it! Try to pray as St. Augustine prayed, "God, give me the grace to triumph over my enemy, temptation." Desire victory. Go for it! Adoration is held in the chapel every Tuesday from 9 AM - 7 PM. Please sign up for a half-hour shift in the Adoration Binder in the Narthex or email Anita Herr at [email protected].
