March 27, 2009 To Whom It May Concern: Re: Samantha Gainer I am writing this letter to recommend Samantha Gainer as a teacher in an instructional setting. I have known Samantha for three years as she took courses I taught and was supervised by me in her practicum experience in both undergraduate and graduate programs at West Virginia Wesleyan. My sustained contact and experiences with Samantha have led me to believe that she is an exceptional student and caring person who devotes herself to exemplary standards in her preparation fora teaching career. Samantha has been a superior student who is highly intrinsically motivated and self-directed in her academic pursuits. She has displayed very high standards of performance and work completion. Samantha always goes above and beyond the requirements of the activity to achieve excellence in all that she attempts. Her work is always meticulously and creatively prepared before its presentation. Samantha is insightful and direct in her ability to assess a situation and apply the proper skills to bring about the best results possible. She has highly developed evaluative skills and has the abilities to put those skills to their greatest advantage in the learning environment Samantha always has a positive attitude toward others and her interactions with them are, therefore, cooperative and collaborative. She encourages others and places concern for their learning and well being as a high priority. Her fellow classmates and cooperating teachers have benefited from working with her in group activities and projects. Her recent practicum experience in the Upshur County Alternative Center presents an excellent example of these abilities. Not only did her lesson planning demonstrate her ability to apply models of instruction to match student needs but she demonstrated the ability to use technology, educational software sites and active learning to engage the students in authentic learning experiences that greatly enhanced their education. Additionally, both her cooperating teachers commented on her abilities to provide activities that went beyond their expertise. From all that I have known about Samantha, I have concluded that she will make an excellent teacher. She possesses the qualities that will encourage and motivate others, guide them through instructional activities, and manage their progress. Not only will she be able to readily establish rapport with students but she will also provide the best type of model for students and others. I gladly give Samantha Gainer my highest recommendation for any teaching position. I sincerely believe that any student and faculty will benefit from her inclusion in their school. She is truly in the top 1% of all students I have worked with in my sixteen years in a college setting. If I may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to call (304) 473- 8107) or email ([email protected]). To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased to write this letter of reference for Samantha Gainer, a student that I have had in class andsupervised during her field experiences. Her work in my Language Arts Methods, Math, Science, andReading classes was exceptional, and her grades in other courses support the feet that the same caliber ofwork was apparent there as well. During her field experience she demonstrated that she could put theoryinto practice using the skills that she had gained in classroom management, lesson planning, instruction, and human development, to design and deliver effective developmentally-appropriate lessons. She was aquick thinker and rapid problem solver, distinguishing herself as teacher while serving as an advisor tostudents. Her discipline strategies were very effective as she moved students toward their highest potential, taking advantage of every "teachable moment." It was obvious that her first priority was the well-being ofher students as she consistently maintained a positive rapport with them.

Ms. Gainer is committed to excellence outside the classroom as well. She has held offices in a varietyof organizations demonstrating her leadership skills, but has also participated as a team player in a numberof projects both on campus and in the community. She has a broad background of knowledge andexperience in public schools as well as in other organizations focused on children and youth.

In education we seek to attract the "best and brightest" for the profession. I believe that SamanthaGainer aptly fits this category, and I think that the education community is truly fortunate that she haschosen teaching as her life's work. Any school system would be fortunate to have her as a part of its team.
