India Mission Cooperative We will continue to collect for the India Mission Cooper-tive through the end of July. Please be sure you mark checks “India Mission” in the memo line.
As you heard Fr. JohnBosco discuss last weekend, India is a country of economic diversity. The Catho-lic communities in the diocese of Cuddapah mostly belong to lower caste are generally poor in terms of the resources needed to make a decent human liv-ing. In general, the climate is very hot throughout the year. In summer the heat ranges up to 130F. It is a dry area and constantly suffers from lack of rain and is prone to drought and famine. And as such, rampant poverty continues to make life difficult for most of its people.
Cuddapah is one of the 13 Catholic dioceses of An-dhra Pradesh and Telangana states. The two civil districts of Cuddapah and Chittoor comprise the Diocese of Cuddapah. It covers an area of 31,029 square miles. The total population is about 5 mil-lions. Out of 200,000 Christians, Catholics number 90,000 in the Diocese of Cuddapah. To be sure, we have a lot to be grateful to God for, not least among these a strong dedicated team of 139 priests and a committed cohort of both lay and religious leaders. They serve in 56 parishes and in the various schools, health clinics, and social service units run by the Diocese. Their ministry is crucial as the majority of our people still lack the basic necessities of life like clean drinking water, health care and education.
We encourage your generosity in supporting the good cause of those serving the poor and low caste people in rural India. Each penny received from the Mission Cooperative Plan-2016 will be used with gratitude and responsibility.
The Value of Stewardship Stewardship is not just for adults. It is important that young people also learn that they are greatly blessed by God and that God, in turn, expects them to share their blessings. Due to the extraor-dinary emphasis on commer-cialism and materialism in our society today, there is an increased awareness within charitable organizations across the country, including parishes, that we must teach our chil-dren the importance of giving while they are young and before they are caught up in a culture that teaches them to constantly strive for more and better material possessions for themselves. Just as the stewardship way of life is a fulfilling and joyful lifestyle for adults, it is also a very good life-style to teach our children. Consider the benefits:
Stewardship can help build self-esteem. In church kids hear that God has already blessed them with all the gifts and talents that they will need. In fact, God has given them an abun-dance of good things and they have enough to share.
Stewardship can make children happier. Un-fortunately, in today’s world, children are bombarded with materialistic messages that often lead to a sense of entitlement and to frustration and dissatisfaction with life. In con-trast, stewardship encourages an attitude of gratitude. As we count our blessings we natu-rally find a sense of peace and contentment.
Stewardship helps children set priorities. As children learn that they are called to give back something to God they also learn that they must let go of some of their own wants. Stew-ardship teaches children the difference be-tween needs and wants. Children learn to con-centrate on their blessings rather than on what they want.
Stewardship prepares children for their adult role in the Church. Children need to learn that stewardship is not just a service project that they must do before they can be confirmed or graduate. Stewardship is a way of life. It is the way a good Christian lives every day of every year.
For more information on how you and your chil-dren can participate, contact the office for Stew-ardship Opportunities:

Foster Families Needed The Department of Social Services (DSS) has recently merged with Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester in an effort to house the growing number of our children in foster care. Current foster homes are maxed out and group homes are not permitted for children under 8 years of age. More homes are des-perately needed. As a Licensed Foster parent you are entitled to a monthly stipend, a clothing allow-ance and children in care receive Medicaid. Other involvements are available such as sponsoring a col-lege student with small gifts for holidays or words of encouragement during exam time, donating a used car so students can go to college, or becoming a legal voice when their case goes to court (Guardian ad litem/GAL). Please consider helping South Caro-lina's children. This is a home grown problem that begs us all to be Good Samaritans. For more infor-mation on becoming a foster parent, please contact DSS at 843-821-0444. For those that might be inter-ested in adoption, please visit:

Catholic Young Adult Leadership Training: “Go and Bring Christ to the World!”
'Go and bring Christ to the world!’ A rephrasing of ‘The Great Commis-sion’ (Matthew 28:16-20), was a lasting reminder and call to Swiss Guards as they retired from their posting under
the papacy of Pope St. John Paul II. This mission, to bring the message of Jesus Christ to the world, has fueled and engulfed the hearts and minds of Chris-tian disciples for over two-thousand years. In a world seeking to know the true love of Jesus Christ, the role and witness of the Disciple is greatly need-ed. As baptized and confirmed members of the Body of Christ, we are equipped with the graces needed to bring this message of peace, love, and mercy to humanity. Join young adult leaders from across the Diocese, August 19-21 at the Diakonia Retreat Center in Salem, SC, as we re-equip our-selves to answer the Great Commission, and go into our homes, work places, parishes, and communities to go and bring Christ to the world. For more information contact the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry:
[email protected] or 843.261.0445. Online registration can also be found:

Thank you for your generosity! Faith Formation Program
At Baptism, parents make a solemn promise to bring their children up in the practice of the faith. We are here to assist you in this process through the sup-port and resources of our community. Catholic Faith Formation is an ongoing process, not only for chil-dren, but for all adults for as long as we live. For grades 1st through 9th: Children who attend Public School: These students need to attend Faith Formation clas-ses & follow the parish sacramental policy. Through regular attendance, they will learn their Catholic Faith in a peer to peer environment geared to their age level. Children who attend Catholic School: They do not need to attend parish classes but, ac-cording to Diocesan policy, they will celebrate their sacraments within their parish and therefore must attend specified parish sacramental preparation ses-sions. Children who are Home Schooled: They are encouraged to follow the same faith edu-cation curriculum used throughout the parish, which can be provided by the Faith Formation Office. If they are using a different curriculum it must be sub-mitted to Director of Faith Formation for verifica-tion. If they choose to use the same curriculum at home, they do not need to attend Faith Formation Classes but, since they will celebrate their sacra-ments with other children of the parish, they must attend all the specified parish sacramental prepara-tion sessions. Sacramental Policy We have a two-year preparation requirement for the reception of Sacraments. For First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, a child must attend 1st & 2nd grade. For Confirmation, a potential candidate must attend 8th & 9th grades. Consistent attendance in all grades is expected for every student.

Scripture Reflection
S t. Paul advised us to pray con-stantly. In Today’s Gospel,
Jesus in effect tells us the same thing. It is difficult for us to un-derestimate the power of prayer. An active and consistent prayer life is a key factor in being a good steward.
St. Teresa of Avila had this to say about prayer: “The most potent and acceptable prayer is the prayer that leaves the best effects. I do not mean it must immediately fill the soul with desire… The best effects are those which are followed by ac-tions…when the soul not only desires the honor of God, but really strives for it.”
Her point is that prayer requires action. That is the same conclusion we might draw about stewardship as a way of life. Adding the phrase “as a way of life” implies that it is more than an attitude. It is something that should fill every moment of every day for us.
That is what Jesus is trying to communicate to us — that we must be consistent and persevere in prayer. Our lives should reflect our ongoing prayer. You might say how we live our lives is a living pray-er. That is what the Lord wants from us. As the Lord advises us, “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Outreach Ministry Saturday, August 20th: Cook team 2: The Mireles’ team, making chicken vegetable soup and tuna sal-ad. Bring a bag of cooked rice.
Tuesday, August 23rd: Serving team 1: The Manning’s team. Serving tuna sandwiches and soup.
