o no t know who has been invited tomorrow , but am informed one of those calling for Rumsfeld's resignation has been invited - no clu e wam also told this is SECDEF's 16thsuch session . I nave probably been at 12 and SECDE F has attended all but one . The format has been :e-hour backg round session w ith a Dod briefer (sometimes civilian, sometimes mil) on the latest hot topic, non-attribut ion, then the SECDEmes in with Gen . Myers -for a quick sandwich lunch and Q&A, staying between 30 m inutes and 2 hours (SECDEF stays average 45 min-I).

Since 2002 , and the beginning of the global war on terrorism (vice Operation Desert Storm when such briefingswere also conducted) there have been more than 80 conference calls (at least one per month , sometimes as often

as weekly) . In addition, the analysts are often invited to a day of briefings at the Pentagon by senior DoDofficials , including the Secretary. There have been approximately 16 such briefings in the past 4 years .

The last time the Secretary had the ret ired military analysts in the building for a meeting was at the end ofSeptember. (The last time the Secretary had the civil ian defense experts in the building for a meeting was inFebruary .) There were two conference calls in January for retired military analysts, one in February, one inMarch and two so far in April.
