Care For Our Common Home Containers for Change Our successful partnership with Kenmore Rotary Club in collecting and recycling eligible containers for refund has given rise to an opportunity to expand the arrangement and greatly increase the quantity of containers being recycled, whilst providing an efficient self-serve facility in our local area for the whole community. Currently there are no bulk deposit facilities within the Kenmore - Moggill region, due mainly to a lack of available land to locate such a facility. Kenmore Rotary have been in discussions with the Parish with a view to site a self-service container refund pod on our Moggill property and we are seeking your feedback on this proposal. This pod is a specially modified shipping container, 6m long by 2.5m wide & 2.5m high. It runs on solar power to operate an electronic keypad for entering registered codes and printing bar code stickers which are placed on bags of containers for credit to the person or organisation depositing the containers. In this way individuals and groups can easily return deposit containers for direct deposit of the funds to their bank account. This solution provides a more professional looking site & approach, a cleaner model and has been proven in many locations around the country. Our parish would continue to partner with Kenmore Rotary with this facility. We would receive a financial share in the volume of containers being deposited by others along with our existing share on containers deposited by the Parish & School using the Kenmore Rotary code, as has been the case with the purple 240 litre bins currently used at each Church. Kenmore Rotary would take responsibility for any works required in locating the pod, providing vehicle access, signage and would liaise with the licenced operator to have the pod emptied weekly. The diagram on the right shows the proposed location and vehicle access to minimise disruption to church users and neighbours alike. This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to get its first public drop- site where families can receive a refund as well as contribute to a cleaner planet. Currently, Queensland generates approximately 3 billion containers a year with a 44% recycle rate, one of the lowest in the country we can make a difference whilst continuing to raise funds in support of local and overseas charitable causes.
