THE SHEPHERD’S VOICE

Dear Parishioners, In today’s beautiful gospel, Jesus ap-pears to apostles who have not only locked themselves in the Upper Room, but are closed inside themselves because of fear. He wishes them peace, forgives their infidelity, and gives them a mission: forgiven and reconciled, they are to extend that forgiveness to others. We see the mercy of God at work. Easter is all about the new life Jesus in-vites us to live. His disciples are changed, giv-en hope, and empowered by the Spirit Jesus breathes upon them to attempt heroic things. They begin to center their lives on the breaking of the bread and prayer in common; they serve one another and share everything in common. The testimony of their speech and their com-mon lives brings many more to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. We too should be living a new life in Christ. We renounced Satan and professed faith in God at Easter, after having prepared ourselves for all of Lent. For forty days we identified habits that needed to change. Did they? Are we living a different way now? What still remains to be done so that we can live in “the glorious freedom of the children of God”. In the Good Shepherd, Fr. Tom Leach

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL (ACA) 2018 The Lord calls us to care for one another and the church. It is up to us to answer that call in the ways we know how. You can answer the call of Jesus who asks us to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, visit the sick and imprisoned, honor our mother and father, celebrate the Eucharist and educate and make disciples of all nations through your donation to the 2018 Annual Catholic Ap-peal. The In-Pew Solicitation will be conducted in church in a few weeks.

DIVINE MERCY Sister Faustina was a young, uneducated nun in a convent of the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Poland during the 1930s. ... she re-

ceived extraordinary revelations — or messages — from our Lord Jesus. Jesus asked Sr. Faustina to record these experienc-es, which she compiled into notebooks. These notebooks are known today as the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, and the words contained within are God's loving message of Divine Mercy. ...

Saint John Paul II canonized Sr. Faustina in 2000 making her the "first saint of the new millennium." Speaking of Sr. Faustina and the importance of the message contained in her Diary, the Pope call(ed) her "the great apostle of Divine Mercy in our time."

Today, we continue to rely (on) St. Faustina as a constant reminder of the message to trust in Jesus' endless mercy, and to live life mercifully toward others. We also turn to her in prayer and request her intercession to our merciful Savior on our behalf. … ©www.thedivinemercy.org
