PARISH NEWS

ST. BONAVENTURE COLUMBUS, NE

From our Pastor….

Many of us have visited other Catholic churches in our area, nation and even in other countries. When we enter a Catholic church where the Eucharist resides in the tabernacle, we can tell that there’s something different about the space, in addition to being in another church not our own. Although we can’t put our finger on it, there’s a “weightiness”. Today, we hear of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Jesus becomes radiant in glory, a foreshadowing of what the body of Jesus (and our body) will be like in Heaven. According to Scripture scholars, the word “glory” in Hebrew denotes “weight”, “importance”, “respect”, and “honor”. I am most aware of this “weightiness” in Adoration and during the Consecration at Mass. Christ is really present in his glory! God abides with us, despite our sinfulness. However, the closer we grow in relationship with Jesus, the more intensely we feel his presence. Lent provides additional opportunities for us to encounter Jesus. Resist the lie that says, “I’m not worthy of being close to God because of my sinfulness.” God knows our weakness (look at Peter, James and John sleeping when Jesus was praying). Don’t wait! Give yourself permission to release the weight of sin and unworthiness and experience a new kind of weight!

Blessings,

Welcome the following new parishioners to our parish:

Lizbeth Laguna Rojas: Silvana Dang Nguyen Thi Hoa Do Vicente & Viridiana Baro Jr.: Jorge, Azael, Amir

We welcome into the family of God through the waters of Baptism:

Mabel Marie Behle: Daughter of Nicholas & Nicole (McPhillips) Leah Magdalene Rief: Daughter of Clayton & Cassie (Behle)

PAPER GOODS DRIVE Ladies of the Lord are collecting paper products to be given to families who have lost a loved one. A tote will be at the back of church to collect the following: Kleenex, paper towels, plastic utensils, paper plates,

napkins, toilet paper, etc. All contributions are appreciated. Call Mary Hall with any questions, 402-910-4795

EASTER DUTY OBLIGATIONS Catholics in good standing are required to receive Holy Communion at least once a year. This precept should be fulfilled during the Easter Season. Catholics are also bound to confess serious (mortal) sins at least once a year, but this is not limited to the Lenten/Easter Season.

ARCHOMAHA UNITE Coming June 8, 2019, experience your faith as you’ve never seen it before - in a vibrant, joy-filled, one-day Catholic celebration we call ArchOmaha Unite. Thousands of Catholics from every corner of the archdiocese will rally together to celebrate hope, family, com-munity and ALL the things that make us “who we are” in the Archdiocese of Omaha at the CHI Health Center Arena. Learn more and register online at unite.archomaha.org - St Bonaventure has reserved a bus for the event. If interested, call Belinda at 402-564-7151 to reserve your spot. At this time, we estimate a cost of approximately $20-$22 per seat, which will include breakfast items. This is a great way to attend the event and not have to find a parking space or worry about driving!

Our priests NEED our prayerful support. Our next Praying for our Priests Holy Hour with Adoration and Benediction will be held on Sunday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Anthony's Church. If you have a book from Maria Regina Cleri, please bring it with you. Books will also be available there.
