The project inside Higreen International Agricultural Pro- duce Logistics Park in Pinghu Subdistrict, Longgang District, will be put into operation in 2022. With an investment of 3 billion yuan (US$422 million), the project covers 100,000 square meters. The 430,000-square- meter facility will be divided into three areas for aquatic products: wholesale, seafood dining, shopping and leisure. Mercury appreciation ASTRONOMY fans will have the best time so far this year to observe Mercury after sunset at around 7:05 p.m. today, sources from Shenzhen Astro- nomical Observatory said. Mercury is often cited as the most mysterious planet in the solar system and hard to spot because it is too close to the sun and is invisible in the sun light most of the time. This evening, residents can spot Mercury with the help of a telescope in the light of the setting sun or with their naked eyes when it gets darker. At a Glance A WOMAN, identified to be the city’s first asymptomatic COVID-19 patient, gave birth to a baby boy at Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital on Saturday. The woman recovered from the disease a month ago and was negative in six separate nucleic acid tests. The newborn was not infected with the virus, a release of Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hos- pital said yesterday. The mother and baby were discharged from the hospital safe and sound yesterday. The mother, a resident of Shenzhen, visited relatives in Wuhan in Hubei Province with her husband in January. At the end of January, she had a fever and her maximum temperature reached 38.5 degrees Celsius. In early February, she tested positive and was quarantined at a hospital for 14 days. After testing negative, she was dis- charged. She and her husband also self-isolated at home until the end of March before taking a train to Shenzhen. In early April, the woman went to the hospital for prena- tal care. She tested positive for COVID-19 though she did not have the symptoms of fever and cough. The CT test showed no symp- toms of COVID-19 infection, so the hospital withheld medical treatment, but arranged two nurses to take care of her. The woman was discharged after 10 days in the hospital and tested negative six times in follow-up tests. On Saturday, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who tested negative. But tests of samples of placenta and embryo lemma showed they were acid posi- tive. “The mother should have passed the anti-virus capabil- ity to the baby. Placenta and embryo lemma are natural bar- riers to block the transmission of virus and bacteria,” said Xia Junxia, a doctor with Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital. (Han Ximin) SHENZHEN adjusted its policy on endowment insurance and increased pensions for the elderly, according to a notice on endowment insurance for citizens in Guangdong released by Guangdong authorities. Over 65-year-old citizens who chose to collect their pen- sion on a monthly basis will have an additional 50 yuan (US$7) in their pension each month, and over 80-year-old residents will have an additional 100 yuan in their pension each month, according to the notice which will take effect June 11. The annual fees for endow- ment insurance will be adjusted to nine levels from the previ- ous 10 levels, defined by the insured. The municipal government will cover all fees for the city’s disadvantaged groups who chose the level of 180 yuan per year for the endowment insurance. For those who chose other levels, the Municipal govern- ment will grant 180 yuan. The remainder of fees will be covered by the insured. Endowment insurance includes basic pension, pen- sion in personal accounts, and funeral subsidies, said Shenzhen Economic Daily. The basic pension for those who have held Shenzhen resi- dency for less than eight years is 302 yuan each month while for those who have been a resident of Shenzhen for more than eight years, the pension is 453 yuan each month. A total of 5,000 yuan will be offered for the insured that passes away. (Wang Jingli) A RENOVATION project on the sewage pipe that runs between Fuqiang and Furong roads in Futian District is complete and has recently been put into use, Shenzhen Evening News reported. The project, which was man- aged by Shenzhen Water Group and China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd., extended the pipe by 580 meters and has seven check stations to reduce impacts on the environment. A special team was established to ensure a highly efficient operation of the project amid the COVID-19 epidemic. The project has reduced the workload on the west sewage pipe of the Xinzhou River and improved the whole sewage pipe network on Xinzhou Road to boost economic development in the district. At present, the sewage pipe is in use and has shown normal readings in each index, said the report. (Wang Jingli) SHENZHEN police, in coop- eration with the local taxation authority as well as the police in Shanwei City of Guangdong Province, have recently detained 67 suspects after cracking a case involving epidemic-related fake invoices worth 3.33 million yuan (US$467,736) in a recent campaign, sznews.com reported yesterday. According to the investiga- tors, the criminal gang falsify general invoices involving epidemic prevention materials such as masks and alcohol by taking advantage of preferential policies on taxation. To provide support for industries and medium, small and micro-sized companies hit hard by the COVID-19 out- break, Shenzhen has reduced the value-added tax collection rate from 3 percent to 1 percent for small-scale taxpayers. Through a meticulous inves- tigation, it was found that the gang, led by a man surnamed Shen, started making fake invoices in Shenzhen late last year. After the city strengthened epidemic prevention and con- trol efforts, Shen worried that his identity would be exposed and so returned to Shenzhen after the Spring Festival and shipped his tools for the crimi- nal enterprise back to his home- town, Shanwei. According to the police, the case involved more than 600 businesses and over 5,800 value-added invoices. The fake general invoices related to epidemic prevention materials are worth 3.33 mil- lion yuan, including 2.51 mil- lion yuan of masks, 394,000 yuan of disinfection products, 147,000 yuan of protective clothing and 171,000 yuan of thermometers.
