As a parent the most important thing you can do to help your child’s education is to attend these conferences and discuss their progress with the teacher. We know your children are proud to share their achievements with you and it makes such a difference to their learning when they can share the next learning steps. As it was the first time we have held interviews over the one day and we would like some feedback on the process from our parents. Please either fill out the enclosed slip or send us an e-mail with your comments [email protected]. We will be discussing the feedback we recieve with staff and using this to help determine whether we adopt the one day interviews as our preferred option to share children’s progress with you. It seems to be that whenever we have an extremely wet period, the problems with parking around the school increase. Please take care when picking up or dropping off children at school. Please also be reminded about not parking over the bus stop on Arundel St. When two buses arrive at the same time they take up the whole bay (even the very ends) and require the full length to pull into so they avoid holding up traffic on Arundel St. It is not acceptable to park in or over the bus bay at any time. Our grounds have been saturated by the recent heavy rain but we are lucky that they dry out very quickly. There will be some days when the children can’t play on the grass as is to be expected during winter but we appreciate their need to run around (between downpours). Some mud spatters on clothing is unavoidable. Today we have farewelled Jeneanne Pittams who has worked at Tauranga Primary School for the last twenty years. During this time Jeneanne has worked with many students and has carried out a range of roles within the school. We hope Jeneanne has an enjoyable and relaxing, well earned holiday in Rarotonga. It is also Whaea Hilary’s last day before taking maternity leave. We wish her all the best for the arrival of “baby Bird”. KOS – Keeping Ourselves Safe: A reminder that the parent meeting for Keeping Ourselves Safe is to be held on August 14 th at 2.30pm. Dear Parents / Caregivers,

We would love to have parents involved as role models and coaches in our playground at lunchtimes. If you have free time between 1.10 pm and 1,45pm and an interest in refereeing or playing sport with kids please let us know. Games currently popular in the playground are:
• Rugby, we have a very keen group of students who would like to play tackle and require supervision. This group could potentially walk down to Memorial Park and play there at lunchtime.
• Netball and basketball - just shooting hoops or co-ordinating a game.
• Soccer
• Hand ball - four square time games.

Talent Show Auditions-Reminder.
We will be holding auditions from Monday 6th August you are welcome to come along and support your child during their audition (please be aware that this is very informal and that their performance may be cut short due to the time restrictions of our lunch hour). All acts need to be ready to go at 1pm, so their teachers will allow them to eat slightly earlier than usual. Two minutes will be the maximum time limit for the audition in front of our awesome Young Leaders judges . The days of the auditions are...

Friends of the School (FOTS)
As we all know the Olympics started on the weekend, so it has made it very hard to leave the TV, but also very inspiring to hit the sports fields and arenas ourselves.
So, after a well-earned rest our winter sports teams kicked straight back in to action in the 1st week of term 3. All of our teams are having a great season so far. Best of luck for the remainder of your games!!
Term 3 is a really busy term for our senior athletes with the 11-a-side hockey tournament next week and then the very exciting South Cluster 7s tournament in week 6 where most of our year 5 and 6 students will be representing the school in netball, hockey, soccer and rugby. Teams should be named next week so we can start practising!!
Who could forget the celebrations of the Waikato / BOP Magic team last week. Our year 6 netball team, TPS Magic, were lucky enough to be in the parade and had the opportunity to rub shoulders with the ANZ Netball Champs. Our other netball teams also got to share in the glory of the team as we walked in to town and watched the parade. Such a neat moment to see our budding netballers in awe of their idols. I have posted some photos on the website in case you missed our kids on the 6 o’clock news!!
TPS was represented by 7 gymnasts at the Regional Gymsport Festival, “the Best of the Best”, on Monday. Congratulations Jaymee Taylor, Jasmin Murray, Charlotte Watson, Katie Daniels, Makaylah Rae-Potene, Grace Camplin and Michelle Clayton who all made top 8 and therefore were selected to compete in this regional event. All 7 girls preformed brilliantly and an especially big congratulations to Grace Camplin who placed 2nd equal, and Michelle Clayton 6th in the rhythmic gym, Makaylah Rae-Potene who placed 3rd equal and Katie Daniels 5th in the artistic gym. Well done girls!!

We are currently putting together Year 5 and Year 6 teams in Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Basketball and Soccer to compete in this annual event. Once teams have been finalised, pupils will bring a notice home informing parents of the requirements etc. This is advanced notice of the date, time and various venues.
Date: Tuesday 21st August 2012 (postponement date Thu 23/8/12)
Time: 9.30am - 2.30pm
Venues: Rugby - Mount Rugby Club, Blake Park.
Netball - Harbourside Netball, Blake Park.

Approximately 90 children will be involved in representing our school on this day. We will travel to and from the events by bus. We look forward to seeing many of you on the day.
Mr MaguirePS YOUNG TALENT COMPETITION
South Cluster Sevens Tournament.On the 8th of August TPS students will all be entertained by the Magician Elgregoe. Using tricks, puppets, ventriloquism, music, song, stories and amazing props (including live birds), the important messages are conveyed to the children in a fun, fast-paced show. You’ve got the power teaches students that they have got the power to make the right choices and lets them know that they can feel good about doing the right thing at school.
The show empowers students to care for and accept each other and it reinforces the golden rule of treating others how you want to be treated. Children are taught strategies to overcome bullying – strategies which can be used whether an individual child is a bully, a victim or a witness to bullying.
With a very strong anti bullying message, the You’ve Got the Power show complements the school health curriculum with a focus on key competencies and works with already existing values, virtues and police school programmes.
