Welcome Center ~ Next Step

I am happy to announce another major step leading to construction of our Welcome Center. We have a Pro-ject Manager and will select a General Contractor by late March. We will be directing the contractor to hire parishioners as sub contractors to complete the work, those who have skill sets and documentation as roofers, carpenters, pavers, brick layers, landscapers, plumbers, electri-cians and the like. We are gathering your necessary paperwork at the office leaving it for Fr. Julio or Fr. Charles in the next two weeks. Please include a resume about your business, liability insurance and a busi-ness card. Fr. Charles Zach

We go to the mountain to be enveloped. Will they (we) listen to Jesus and the voice in the cloud? This is My beloved Son, listen to him. Will we stand by Jesus as He goes into His Passion and death? We know the story: Pe-ter denied, the disciples abandoned Jesus…Only John remained with Je-sus. The readings today place on the stage the “big guns” in salvations history: Abraham, Peter, James and John. Each one came with filters on how they saw God and how they heard God in their lives. All came to understand more fully God’s presence and call in their lives b/c they refined their fil-ters, they responded to God’s grace in their lives. Abraham was promised that God would make of him a great nation. Then later he was tested when asked to sacrifice his son. Result? A new covenant. A similar thing happened when Moses went through the testing in the Sinai Desert. Result? A new covenant. The prophet Elijah battled the kings of Israel to remain faithful to God’s covenant. Result? He was a prototype of all future prophets speaking the Word of God. In today’s gospel three apostles have an intimate encounter with Jesus in His Transfiguration. Result? Listen to Him. Initially Peter, James and John did not understand but kept on walking back down from the mountain, from this hill of intimacy. They wanted to build a tent reminiscent of the Sinai tent (housing the arch of the cove-nant) which was a meeting place with God. All their filters had been challenged and changed. Now us! Today is time for our filters to be challenged and changed during lent, another opportunity. As we pray, fast and do works of love, our filters are updated, our batteries are recharged – We enter the tent of meeting during this holy time of lent. There is a Filipino tradition at the matrimony cele-bration where the couple has a veil placed over them. This veil represents the tent of meeting with God as they enact their holy covenant. Lent is our veil representing the tent of meeting with our God through Jesus Christ. He takes us by the hand to recharge our covenant and bring our filters into focus. We are called to make a difference in our society. One author stated recently that, “We are becoming the kind

of society that other 19th Century societies sent missionaries to.” The Church has had a long practice of saving and redeeming civilizations. Why then not this one? Where can we start? Perhaps this scenario can give a clue. A child saw a dust-covered book. He asked what it was. His father replied, “That’s God’s book – the bible.” The boy replied, “You better return it to God because no-body here reads it.” If our bible is in good shape, we are not. As we concentrate on the three pivots of lent (Prayer, Fasting, and Works of Love), may our prayer time always make a good finish as the apostles stated: “Lord, it is good that we are here.”

Rice Bowl ~ Second Week of Lent

Trinh’s family are farmers in Vietnam who have been affected by climate change. What would you do if your source of nutrition was threat-ened? How can we support those whose liveli-hood are vulnerable to weather? Give to your Rice Bowl.

Challenge yourself this year and go beyond the clichés of “giving up” something. Now is a great

time to take stock of your spiritual life, and to grow in it.

The Spiritual Enrichment Committee will pre-sent on DVD with Rev. Robert E. Barron. He will answer questions about our Catholic Faith!! Do you have a question you would like to ask him? If you have questions about: God, The Trinity, Jesus, Spiritual Life, or Prayer, we can ask him! Were: Knights of Columbus Hall, When: March 8, 2020 at 9:40am. Coffee will be offered!

Órdenes para llevar (“To Go”) están dis-ponibles.
