Exodus 12-14; Jeremiah 29:11

The Exodus

God provides for his family.

Connect Time (20 minutes): Five minutes after the service begins, split kids into groups and begin their activity. Large Group (30 minutes): Begin 20 minutes after the service starts. Model what it looks like to be engaged in large group. Small Group (10 minutes): Keep kids in small groups until parents arrive. If you all have extra time at the end, you can review the video and songs together.

When kids enter the room, welcome them by name. It will make them feel known and give them a sense of belonging.

As kids leave, encourage them to share their thank you notes at home. God loves it when we share what he’s done!

There are many ways God provides for his family. But he did some incredible miracles to bring them out of slavery and into the Promised Land. Today, we’re talking about some of those!

GOAL: Connect Time is all about engaging kids in an activity that allows them to connect with each other right away while simultaneously piquing their curiosity for Large Group and preparing their minds for what they’re going to hear. PROVISION FROM A TO Z *Break into small groups

• Give each group a large, tear-off sheet of paper • Have somebody write the alphabet down the side, from A to Z • As a group, see if you can come up with one thing you’re thankful for, for each

letter (e.g. A – animals, B – baseball, etc.) • For fun, see if you can come up with items faster than other small groups! • Then ask kids to share one way God provided for them in the past week.

You can also remind kids of the expectations for Large Group behavior: (1) be kind, (2) listen when somebody speaks, and (3) follow the leader’s instructions.

Goal: Kids will (1) identify ways God has provided for his family, (2) understand that God provides for us now and (3) thank God for what he has done! Why? Even when things get hard, God is taking care of his family. He can do miracles! Tip: Remember, some kids may be in tough situations. You can remind them that the desert was really hard for God’s family. Things aren’t always easy but we really can always trust God to be with us.

REVIEW THE STORY 1. Name some ways God provided for His family. (Sending a leader, Passover,

Cloud/Fire, Red Sea, manna, water from rocks, clothes that don’t wear out, Jesus) 2. Which one of these is most interesting to you? Why? 3. Imagine you there to see these things happen. How would you feel? What would you

think? 4. What is one way God has provided for you? (If kids all had a chance to share this

during Connect Time, you can move on.) MAKE IT PERSONAL

• Give kids a piece of construction paper and provide markers for the group. • Let them fold the paper and create a thank you card for God. • Let kids share (if they want to).

PRACTICE THE VERSE It’s sometimes easy to forget God’s goodness and provision. Let’s practice the verse. To help kids remember, add hand motions! You can use the ones below or make up your own.

• Jeremiah 29:11 – (hold up two fingers, then nine) • “For I know the plans I have for you,” – (point to brain on “know,” then spread

hands out) • says the LORD. – (point up) • “They are plans for good and not for disaster, - (thumbs up, then thumbs down) • to give you a future and a hope. - (hold out left hand, palm up; hold out right hand,

palm up. *Pray, thanking God for his provision. Extra time? Check out the following page:

Kids could write their own names and then try to come up with one thing they are thankful for using the first letters of their name. They could also go back to the big ABC list and play charades, with volunteers acting out one of the items off of the list and others guessing which item it is.

There are three videos today. Make sure you stay on pace, so you have time for everything. Practice out loud at home to gauge how long each section will take you.

You have a chance to share one way God has provided for you. Try to think outside the box and share something he’s done that was unexpected.

*Click to play intro music Hi everybody! Welcome to Kids’ Club. I’m so glad to see you. Before we start, I want to officially invite you to Movie Night in TWO weeks, on Friday night, July 31. Come with an adult and bring a friend—or ten! This is a great chance for you to bring friends who don’t know Jesus to Crossroads. We can’t tell you exactly which movie we’re showing, but I think you’ll like it…to give you a hint: it’s about six friends who became BIG-time heroes. Slide: Movie Night You’ll get an invitation on that way out. Hope you guys can make it! Now let’s talk about Connect Time: You guys did a great job coming up with a whole lot of things to be thankful for. Let’s hear what some of them are! How about things you’re thankful for that start with A? (Let a kid share.) How about L? (Let a kid share.) S? (Let a kids share.) And now a hard one…did anybody get X? (Let a kid share.) Well done. You guys listed some things that God gives us. Maybe they’re things we need. Maybe they’re just things we want or things that make life more fun! But this month, we’ve been talking a lot about being outdoors. So let’s think about things we want or need outside. Give me some things you guys like to have! (Let kids share things like: bug spray, water, sunscreen, tent, compass, food, etc.) All of those sound like good idea! And let’s hear from Bear Grylls, who we’ve been watching clips of this month. He’s in yet another challenging situation, where he’s doing all he can just to survive. Let’s see what he needs: Video: Wave Whipped (about 1 minute)

Page 6: 35 071915 The Exodus LW49gwb73j4zuj2z3clp19vafg-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/... · Make sure you stay on pace, so you have time for everything. So what did he need? (Let kids respond.) Great ideas! GOD PROVIDES FOR HIS FAMILY Today we are going to talk about how God provides for His family. They weren’t stuck out on the waves but they were in some pretty terrible situations—ones they could barely survive! We’ve been talking about a guy named Moses lately, and how God asked Moses to lead his family out of Egypt, where they were suffering, and into an amazing land God promised. The thing is, there’s no way Moses could get hundreds and hundreds of people away from the ruler Pharaoh, across a huge wilderness and into the land. They needed God to provide for them! Today, we are going to spend time looking at how God provided for His people. Let’s start by watching a video about how God got them away from Pharaoh and on the path to safety. As you watch this video keep a look out for ways God provided for His people. Video: God’s Story / Passover (about 3:45) Wow, so what are some of the ways God provided for his family? (They may say: God sent plagues so Pharaoh would see his power, God kept his family’s firstborn children safe when they put lambs’ blood on the doors, God made Pharaoh send God’s family away from Egypt, God sent Jesus to rescue US! Summarize anything they missed or help them out if they are having trouble remembering.) GOD KEEPS PROVIDING FOR HIS FAMILY Well, guess what? God took care of his family, but he has to KEEP taking care of us because we keep needing things, don’t we? I mean, we need to eat every day…and drink every day…and wear clothes every day. And God’s family kept needing help too. For one thing, Pharaoh changed his mind after he let them go—he wanted them to come back and work for him again! So he sent an entire army out to chase them and bring them back. (Click to show the map.) The problem is, look at the route they took. What’s that blue part mean? (Let kids say: water.) Yep, water—and a lot more than it looks like on here! What’s going to happen if the army chases them? (Let kids say, they’ll get stuck at the Red Sea.) That’s right. So we’ve got another video today that’s going to show us the BIG way God provided for his family…and then lots of little ways. Like the last video, look for ways God took care of his family. Video: The Israelites in the Wilderness (about 2 minutes) Amazing, huh? So, how did God provide for His family in this video? (Let kids say: He showed them where to go by leading them with a cloud during the day and fire at night, he made a dry path across the Red Sea.) That’s right!

And we didn’t even get to the part that talked about how God sent manna down every day like rain, protected them from their enemies, even kept their clothes from wearing out. God can do that! WHY GOD PROVIDES Why do you think God did all that for them? (Let kids respond.) Yep, he loved them. And does he love us too? (Let kids say: Yes!) Yes, he sure does! In fact, remember how part of the way he provided was to give us a picture of the Rescuer. Just like the lambs died in place of the oldest sons, one day Jesus would die in place of us! This reminds me of our verse for this month: Jeremiah 29:11 SLIDE: Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Let’s say that out loud together. (Let kids repeat it.) Great, but I want you to really remember it. So I need to hear all your voices and I want to hear them LOUDLY. Let’s see if we can share this verse with ________ (whichever room is next door at your site). (Repeat again.) Great job! God has a plan for our lives and will keep providing for us. Remember that list you made in Connect Time? Those things you’re thankful for are part of God’s provision for you. And I love knowing that God can do miracles to care for me. One time, _________ (share a personal example of how God has provided in your life). RESPOND There are so many things we can’t do on our own. God’s family would have died in the desert if he hadn’t given them food and water. They would have been attacked by Pharaoh’s army if God hadn’t made a dry path through the Sea. Their sons would have died if God hadn’t provided lambs as a substitute. And WE would still be separated from God, unable to talk to him or be part of his family, if he hadn’t sent Jesus to rescue us! As you listen to this next song about how we need God, tell him you need him. Thank him for being with you. Ask him any question you have about he takes care of you. This is time for you and him to talk. Song: Me Without You WORSHIP Now let’s thank God by worshiping him with a song. Let’s tell him that we know he provides and we belong to him! Music Video: I’m Yours PRAY Thank God for ways he provides. Include some examples from the ABC list kids made in
