SIMBANG GABI (Nine-Day Novena of Dawn Masses)
The "Simbang Gabi", a devotional nine-day Novena of dawn Masses before Christmas Day will begin on Sat-urday, December 16 until Sunday, December 24. The nine-day daily dawn masses are celebrated in English and start at 5:30AM. Set within the season of Advent, Simbang Gabi invites participants to heighten their preparation for the birth of Jesus, as well as honor the Blessed Virgin. Everyone is invited to attend and ex-perience this nine-day devotion. Breakfast reception at the PAC will follow after each dawn mass.

El "Simbang Gabi", una misa devocional de nueve días de madrugada antes de Navidad comenzará el sábado, 16 de diciembre hasta el domingo, 24 de di-ciembre. Las Misas de amanecer diarias se celebran en inglés y comienzan a las 5:30 AM. Ubicado dentro de la temporada del Adviento, Simbang Gabi invita a los participantes a intensificar su preparación para el nacimiento de Jesús, así como honrar a la Santísima Virgen. St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra/ San Nicolás, Obispo de Mira Saint Nicholas was bishop of Mira, in Lycia, Asia Minor (corresponds to the Turkish locality currently called Demre), in the fourth century, and his relics are venerated in Bari (Italy). Very few data are known about the life of this saint. His oldest biographies are of some centuries after the time when he is believed to have lived. It is considered that he was born in Patara (Asia Mi-nor) around the year 270 AD, and that he died on December 6, 343 AD. According to stories about Saint Nicholas, since the birth of Nicholas the prodigies follow each other: Since child-hood he was characterized of giving among the poor everything that he had. He told his parents: "It would be a sin not to share much, since God has given us so much". Generosity is a virtue that has always been associated with this saint. The St Lucy Scripture Study Group will be ex-ploring Luke's Acts of the Apostles in a 10 week pro-gram on Monday evenings starting January 8 at 7 pm in the PAC. The same program will be offered on Tuesday mornings at 10 am also in the PAC starting January 9. The course will examine the struggles of early believers to establish communities of faith. Tómese el tiempo para mirar el calendario de Misas para el 4° Domingo de Adviento y de nuestras Misas Navideñas y sea paciente con los demás tanto en nuestro esta-cionamiento como en las bancas. Please, come and celebrate with us next week and as I have asked throughout Advent bring a friend, espe-cially on Christmas Day. Take time to look at the schedule of Masses for the 4th Sunday of Advent and our Christmas Masses and be patient with one another both in our parking lot and in the pews. We will be wel-coming many people for our Christmas Masses and I hope in the tradition of St. Lucy we do so with grace and blessing as our normal seats and routines are interrupted.
Our Capital Campaign, “Renewed in the Light” continues. Thank you to everyone who in generosity has pledged and contributed to our parish campaign. If you have not, I would ask you to continue to discern how best, in sacrificial offering, you can support the replacing of the lights in the church and the renovation of our bathrooms. You are all in my prayers.
