MOTIVATION Highly efficient buildings often decrease in optimal energy performance after several years of occupancy. To prevent loss in energy efficiency, it is necessary to engage occupants in understanding the purpose of green features implemented in building operation. SOLUTION Designing a kiosk for the lobby of Cooper Union’s LEED Platinum certified academic building, 41 Cooper Square, shares information about the building’s green features through an online dashboard. The dashboard is accessible on the internet: @41COOPERSQUARE Janet Butler & Polina Smirnova Advised by Professor Baglione DASHBOARD CONTENT Screensaver & Website Refresh In order for the kiosk to greet users with the homepage regardless of where the last user left off, the website redirects to the homepage after 2.5 minutes of inactivity. A screensaver appears after 3 minutes of inactivity to welcome the next user. Information Architecture The dashboard layout presents information at three levels, each increasing in complexity.
