Coruss Swinden Technology Centre (formerly Swinden Laboratories) is a major focus for the Companys steelresearch,thetechnologicaldevelopmentofsteelproductsandoftheindustrysmetallurgicalandrelatedengineeringprocesses.

The Centre extends over a 6.5 hectare site with fifteen major laboratory buildings providing some 19000m2 oflaboratory,testfacilities,pilotplantandofficesforthe400technicalstaff.

ConsiderableinteresthasbeengeneratedinthemarketbytheGroups654SMOsteelgrade.Coldrolledcoilandsheetinthisgrade-producedatNybyandLngshyttan-areusedinanincreasingnumberofapplications,e.g.plateheatexchangesandcondensertubesforthenuclearpowerindustry.

R&Dis involvedintworesearchprojectsfor thedirectcastingof liquidmetal intothinstrip,oneat theInstituteforMetalsResearch(MEFOS)inLuleandtheotheratCorussTeesidelaboratories.Theresultsoftheresearchhaveprovidedvaluableknowledgewhichcanbeexploitedonce the technologyandequipmentavailable fordirectstripcastingcanofferareliable,commerciallyviablealternativetoconventionalmanufacturingmethods.ForOutokumpu,thetwomainimplicationsofthisdevelopmentarefirstlytheneedtodecidewhethertoinvestinthenewtechnologyandsecondly,therepercussionsforthecompetitiveclimate.Abreakthroughindevelopmentscouldhaveanimpactonthecompetitivesituationandgiverisetonewinvestments.

DIE-COVER FILM
Die-Cover film is a proven and economical way to prevent die marks when using a press brake to form Stainless Steel, Aluminium, pre-finished or painted metals. Film life will vary with a number of factors such asthethicknessofthemetalbeingformed,thetypeofmetal,andtheseverityofthebend.Whilesomecustomers forming light gauge aluminium are getting several hundred bends on a single piece of film, othersformingheavygaugestainlesssteelmaygetonlyafewbends.

gRADE 22052205 is a ferritic-austenitic stainless steel whichcombines many of the beneficial properties of bothferriticandausteniticsteels.Asaresultofhighchromiumand molybdenum contents, the steel has very goodpitting and uniform corrosion resistance. The duplexmicrostructuregiveshighresistancetostresscorrosioncracking as well as high mechanical strength. Theweldabilityof2205isgood.

Putatorquewrenchwithcorrectdriverontospindle,asshownonthepicture
Adjustthetorquewrenchtothetorsionalmomentgivenintheabovetable,dependingonthevalvesize
Tighten the regulatingscrewby theAllenwrench, testingat thesame time fromthe torquewrench,until thedesiredtorsionalmomentofthespindleisreached.
Iftheshutteristightenedtoomuch,itcanbedamaged.
Itshouldbeobservedthatnewvalvesarealwaysdeliveredfromthefactorywiththeshutterpressurereleasedafterpressuretest.
