The Calile – Overview
Located on James St in the vibrant inner-city suburb of Fortitude Valley, The Calile promises to be a new icon for Brisbane.
Designed by Richards & Spence and located in an enviable central position
on bustling James St, The Calile will reach a height of seven storeys and
will comprise over 2,600 square meters of new retail and restaurant space,
together with 178 generously sized luxury hotel rooms.
Ground floor boutiques and eateries will give way to a podium level designed
to be a raised urban landscape – complete with pool, poolside cabanas,
restaurant, function room, day spa and fitness centre. The design embraces
Queensland’s subtropical climate, creating an urban oasis for Brisbane.
The Calile is being developed by family owned Calile Malouf Investments
(CMI) who also delivered the highly acclaimed James St Market to the
precinct in 2003.
The new development will take on the name ‘Calile’ which has had
significance to the family throughout several generations.
The Calile will be operated by Australian based TFE (Toga Far East) Hotels
and will become the second hotel in the new TFE Hotels Collection.
‘We are really excited to be partnering with CMI, who have been
instrumental in transforming James St into the most sought-after
destination in one of Australia’s fastest growing cities.’
Rachel Argaman, CEO of TFE Hotels
The Calile is set to become Brisbane’s most enduring, iconic hotel and
retail development.

James St – Events
James St Initiative is integral to the promotion and success of the precinct
Having emerged organically from its inner-city industrial roots, James St
quickly evolved into a high-energy, thriving urban pocket. As the street
developed, James St Initiative (JSI) was formed to support it’s retailers
and promote the area’s business interests, produce events, and manage
a marketing and public relations campaign for the precinct.
JSI continues to create partnerships and develop ideas and projects to
improve and connect James St with the local community and visitors
to Brisbane.
JSI is responsible for implementing numerous precinct initiatives including
the James St website, free on-street Wi-Fi, the urban bee hives, and the
James St gift card. An annual calendar of street events provides an
on-going branding opportunity for retailers throughout the precinct.
