CBDC Kent is a private, non-profit community development corporation, serving Kent County and the civil parish of Rogersville, since October 6, 1981. OUR MISSION We work in cooperation with different government departments and the private sector to meet the needs of our region's small and medium-sized enterprises, by providing advisory and counselling services, technical assistance, and investment funds. OUR VISION At CBDC Kent, we are working toward a future where all the small and medium-sized businesses of the Kent County area will make a contribution to the sustainable development of the region. In Atlantic Canada, we have 41 CBDC, all in rural areas, including 10 in New Brunswick. Through an alliance of all these corporations, including ACOA, a trust fund (ACCBIF) has been set up to meet the investment needs, which allows us to continue to serve our communities. As for the stewardship, a board of directors made up of volunteers, who are all businesspeople representing the various regions served by the organization, supports the mandate of the CBDC Kent.

CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Kent Community Business Development Corporation, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our annual meeting.

As you surely already know, the Kent CBDC plays an important part in the business world of the Kent region, including the Rogersville parish.

Among our accomplishments this year, the CBDC has granted 4.6 million dollars in financing to 76 clients. This is the largest amount in CBDC Kent’s history.

As you will see, in order to meet the demand, we have to borrow rather important sums of money from the investment fund of the Atlantic Association of CBDCs. However, with the results from the past years, we do not hesitate when we need to invest in our region’s entrepreneurs.We would like to thank the Atlantic Association of CBDC who also has confidence in our CBDC and supports our growth. These investments helped create 178 jobs and maintain 478 jobs in our region. Through our financial services, 35 new businesses were created and 20 businesses made some expansion. We are also pleased to have accepted 45 participants in the Self-Employment Benefit (SEB) program. This program helped launch 45 new businesses, thus creating 94 full-time and part-time jobs. As board of directors, we are pleased to see an increase in our commercial loans’ portfolio. It is always interesting to see new businesses and business expansions. During the past years, we have also helped businesses through difficult times and it is very rewarding when we know that we have made a difference and that we have helped them overcome challenges. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank our economic development partners in the region for their support of our organization, including the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) for their financial support along with the Department of Postsecondary Education, Training and Labour of New Brunswick and the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada with whom we have co-operated to deliver the Self-Employment Benefit program successfully for the past several years. Your support is greatly appreciated. I would like to mention the dedication and availability of the volunteers who are members of the Board of Directors. Their knowledge of the various fields brings a varied expertise to the management of our organization. In closing, I wish to thank the employees of CBDC Kent. OUR CLIENTS

A total of 306 clients received technical and/or financial services during the 2014-2015 fiscal year, from April 1, 2014, to March 31, 2015. Here is the geographic distribution of our clientele for this year.

OUR PROGRAMS

BUSINESS LOANS PROGRAM The financial assistance of CBDC Kent is based on attaining two principal objectives : create jobs in Kent County and the civil parish of Rogersville and offer the necessary financing to small and medium-sized businesses in the area. We offer financing up to $225,000, and that, to individuals and businesses with viable projects. This year, 76 requests for a total amount of $4,666,340 were approved under the Business Loans Program. These projects created 178 new jobs and maintained 478 jobs. Our loans are divided in 5 programs : General Commercial, Youth, First-Time Entrepreneur, Social Enterprise and Innovation.

OUR PROGRAMS

SELF-EMPLOYMENT BENEFIT PROGRAM This program is subsidized by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour of New Brunswick. Its goal is to assist unemployed individuals in launching and managing their own business, or in buying an existing business, while continuing to receive Employment Insurance benefits. Part 1 of the program enables clients receiving Employment Insurance benefits to continue receiving them until their allowed number of weeks has expired. A $350 weekly allowance represents Part 2 of the compensation system in order to complete the 50-week aid. This year, under the SEB Program, 45 requests were approved for a total amount of $787,500. This has allowed us to participate in the creation of 70 full-time jobs and 24 part-time jobs.

TECHNICAL SERVICES CBDC Kent offers assistance and orientation services to the area business people regarding the government programs that are available to them, in addition to offering them business advice. This year, through the technical services offered by CBDC Kent, 36 requests for a total amount of $2,024,569 were approved by : Workforce Expansion Program (short-term help paying the wages for an additional employee); Business Development Program (this ACOA program offers access to capital in the form of interest free, unsecured, repayable contributions);

Northern New Brunswick Economic Development and Innovation Fund / Regional

Development Corporation (invests in projects that support the development of the economy and the building of community capacity);

NB Growth Program (grant to start, expand, diversify or improve a business).

These projects created 73 new jobs and maintained 60 jobs.
