things going on at 2210 Lincoln Way

that you should know about!

÷ Both the northwest and southwest brick panels on the upper

level of the parking structure, by Lynn Ave, are experiencing some “fatigue” with the concrete/veneer. HPC is aware of

the problem and is bringing in an engineer to determine what needs to be done to correct the problem. HPC is also working to stop the leaks, from rain, we are experiencing on the lower level.

÷ Requests for non-church parking continue to come in. We

have had over 125 inquiries this summer for Monday through Friday parking. Recently HPC asked for spaces, as they finish their project at the Farm House fraternity - how can you say no to the people who built the structure and are working on some corrections?

÷ From Kathy Sievers, iconographer (regarding the icon/

crucifix proposed to be hung over the altar): The same image

will appear on the front and back of the icon so that the

worshipping community remains one body. The crucifix

shows Jesus just prior to his death. By his open gaze, we encounter the mystery of his suffering and death and are

invited into relationship with him. I am proposing two

possible designs, each with its own flavor. The designs I

have presented include the cross strengthened by the addition

of gold around it. The size of the crucifix is between eight

and nine feet in height and about six feet wide, with a depth of 10-12”.

The STA crucifix committee will meet soon and more information about the crucifix and process will be forthcoming.

÷ We have a well used building—lot of activity and a lot of

people in, out and through the building. We have one full time maintenance person and a half-time custodian for this large building. They really do a wonderful job at keeping up with everything and maintaining a clean and ordered environment. Most of you will never see them, only see the results of all their hard work when you come to Mass. If you do see Steve or Lual, please thank them for their work—they deserve some kind words—and anything you can do to make their job easier is much appreciated.

÷ Five college students are sharing their time and gifts as

interns with our St. Cecilia/STA Youth Ministry program: Abbie Budan, Liz Haut, Chris Smith, Lindsay Laske, and Christian Novy.

Parish Ministry is for Everyone Baptism is the basis for it all. Baptism has incorporated us into the

Body of Christ. It has given us rights and responsibilities as

members of that Body. Part of our responsibility is to minister to

one another and to the world. The word “ministry” can be

intimidating. It may be easier to think of it as “service to God’s

people.” Everyone has gifts and talents that can be used in service.

There are many opportunities within the parish to serve the other

members of the Body, to BE served, and to go out “to the streets”

with our message and ministry. To begin to explore where you

can serve and minister within, and outside of, the parish is only a

phone call or a click on the “send button” in your email away.

Keep your eyes and ears open and be alert for needs that are

perfect for you to fill, but more importantly that will nourish your

life of service and faith.

Towers construction/renovation project.

New Teen Testimony: I haven’t always been as strong in my faith as I should. One big

part of this is the people I choose to hang out with. The group I

hung out with in middle school was not a good, faithful group of friends. When I came to that realization, I distanced myself from

them and got better friends that were strong in their faith. This

has brought me closer to God in many ways and I am eternally

thankfully for that. –LTLC 2015

Stewardship Reflections are offered each week by members of

the STA Stewardship Ministry Team.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

A steward acknowledges their many God-given gifts

and in gratitude, responds to the Gospel invitation

to nurture and share those gifts with others.

It is the spirit that gives life…

John 6

Reflecting on today’s readings made me smile. The second

reading from Ephesians describing Paul’s image of marriage is

followed by a reading from John’s Gospel stating, “This teaching

is difficult; who can accept it?” Now, to be fair, John’s Gospel

passage is not referring directly to the Ephesians reading, but I

thought it fit. It made me think of Pope Francis’ statement to

engaged couples, “The perfect family doesn’t exist, nor is there a perfect husband or a perfect wife, and let’s not talk about the

perfect mother-in-law! It’s just us sinners.”

Families can be messy, but there is a mystery in the bonds that

form when we commit to relationships beyond our personal

desires. One definition of stewardship is protecting something

considered worth caring for and preserving. Being a good family

member and steward of St. Thomas Aquinas and our Catholic

faith can be messy at times, but I consider it something worth

caring for and preserving.
