Dear Friends,

Thank you for your wonderful support of the homeless pets and community members we assist at the APF 365 days a year. Your contributions of time, talent, and treasure are what allows us to provide care and services to those in need.

2016 has been an exceptional year so far! We are pleased to report that our length of stay for dogs and cats is about two weeks – a statistic of which we are very proud. Nothing brings us more joy than matching a homeless pet with a new, loving family.

Our stray and surrender intake has increased, as has the number of spay and neuter surgeries we provide to shelter animals and to others in need of cost effective sterilization services.

With this increased animal care and activity, we are in need of your financial support. Every pet in our care receives the vaccines, medical and behavioral care and spay/neuter surgery before it goes to his or her new home. Please help us continue to keep our doors open to anyone or any companion animal in need by donating to the APF today!

There are several ways to give including:

• Mail a check to APF 53 Maple Avenue Scotia, NY 12032

• Make a gift of appreciated stock. Call 374-3944 x110 for transfer instructions.

• Give a gift on-line here: www.animalprotective.org/make-a-donation

• Every gift counts – no matter what size- as they all add up to a meaningful amount. $100 helps provide spay/neuter services for one pet and $250 provides vaccines and medical care to a homeless pet. Larger amount help us care for more animals. We care for thousands of animals each year so every dollar received will make a difference to a homeless pet in need.

Please help the homeless pets in our community by making a donation to the APF today.

Sincerely,

Deb Balliet, Executive Director

We place safe, healthy animals in responsible homes with the expectation that adopters will provide quality and lifelong care. Our process includes an adopter questionnaire and an agreement detailing the care of every animal should receive.

We accept unwanted animals, preferably by appointment. Please call 374-3944, ext. 101. A contribution of $25 per animal is requested to offset the cost of care that we provide, an average of $200 per animal.

Spotlight on our APF Board Member - David BrownellWhat is your title and profession?I am a director at DALLE Account and Cash Management. I’ve always been good with numbers and my brother is an accountant. I graduated from Siena College and work took me all over, living in places like Washington D.C. and L.A. I eventually came back home to the Capital District.

Do you have pets of your own?Yes – I have two dogs, an Australian Shepherd Golden mix, Blondie, and a Toy Poodle named Fierce. Blondie was a rescue – we picked her up at Benson’s Pet Center about 10 years ago – she’s about 12 now. Our Toy Poodle actually came from our previous neighbors. They bred puppies who were not treated well – they were left alone in the garage for hours not receiving the attention or love they needed. Eventually, the family decided we needed to help and we took Fierce home and out of that situation. He is two now, and despite breaking his femur when he was younger he’s a happy, active guy.

What are some of your favorite things to do on the weekends to relax? We have a travel trailer and enjoy packing the family up and going camping. We go to the Cape each year and stay at the Scussett Beach Campground. It’s a great location, only a 10-minute bike ride to the beach, and it’s in the bay so there aren’t many waves – it’s great for the kids!

What inspired you to want to be a part of the APF?Being the owner of a rescue dog, I feel strongly that the mission and efforts of the APF are very important to our community. I wanted to join the board so that I could use my personal strengths and experience in financial management to help the organization.

What do you like best about your work with the APF?I really enjoy being among fellow animal lovers and have met so many great people here.

Finish this sentence, “If I could have one wish, I’d wish for…”In this current day and political environment, I wish we could all be a little more tolerant and understanding of one another.

The APF is proud to support the Toys for Tots Campaign again this year, in partnership with our good friends at Sondra’s Fine Jewelry.

Please help less fortunate children in our community experience the joy of Christmas. Drop off new, unwrapped toys in the collection box at the
