In our livestream Mass last Sunday, we announced the use of “My Parish App” as another platform to communi-cate to you, our dear parishioners. This new App compliments well with what you are already familiar with and I hope you use for your advantage, that is, our parish website. At this time of pandemic, we have been using very often the Facebook account of the parish to livestream our daily and Sunday Masses. We thank those who still use the mail to communicate with us and very essential, sending their offerings. There are those who email me to share their concerns and needs and how the priest and/or parish can be of assistance. Using the telephone is still the most convenient way to communicate. In addition, we have been constantly appealing to you, dear parishioners, to consider the use of e-giving via Faith Direct. A new feature of Faith Direct that was promoted few weeks ago was Text-To-Give. All these are different ways to com-municate and stay connected in order to know how and where we are in these times of crisis. A total blackout in our com-munication lines would not only dampen the spirit but would even make life harder to bear. The proper use of our commu-nication lines would not leave us like “orphans” (see John 14:18-19).

Consider using My Parish App because of its excellent features. My Parish App provides the Scriptural Reading of the day, the Parish Bulletin, Prayers, Homilies, News, Giving, Herald, Inspire Daily, Reflections, Daily Mass, Rosary, among other ways to strengthen and deepen our spirituality and our communication with one another. I believe most of us are using our cellphone every day and almost all day. So, it is not hard promoting the use of this App because we use our cellphone with this App and it makes our communication much easier and more convenient. I encourage you to download it for your use to communicate with us and communicate with Jesus!

The pandemic has put us in a situation where we don’t want to be burdened with fake information and we want to be guided well because we need to seek and know the Truth. The concern in the media today and the recent past is the dis-cussion whether it is safe to go back to work or not. We see and hear how people would like to go back to work to pro-vide for their families. There are those who push that things will be okay; others talk about a new normal requiring the use of facemask or doing social distancing. What is sad and annoying though is how all these positions or ideas are communi-cated to us. There are those who are very sure of themselves making announcements only to be proven wrong afterwards without the humility to accept their mistakes. There are those who think they are the only ones who have the monopoly of truth and condemn others to be always wrong when in fact these other people are also making their best to answer individ-ual needs and the requests of each and every community. Amidst this pandemonium, where do we go?

When we seem to be lost along the way, let us not forget to go back to our faith. Jesus in the Gospel today gives us again these reassuring words: “And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth . . .” (Jn. 14:16-17). The Gospel context is that Jesus was leaving but He was reassuring His followers that they will not be orphans. He did not like His followers to feel they were abandoned like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus was talking another Advocate who will come as a supporter and a defender, a guardian who intercedes and protects. In human relationships, an advocate is a witness who takes the stand or a best friend who comforts and helps. Jesus is the Advocate. He was referring to “another” Advocate, that is, the Spirit of truth, who comes from the Father. He comes to testify to the truth of who Jesus is, His works and His words. And He will be there “always” because His presence is not determined by time and space. And so, my dear friends, let us welcome and allow this Spirit of truth to guide us so we may follow the right path. We need this Spirit of Truth of discern what information to rely on and our guide as we com-municate with each other.

Lest we forget, allowing this Spirit to truth to work in us and guide us requires that we have to go back to our rela-tionship with Jesus, rooted in His reminder found at the outset of the Gospel: “If you love me, you will keep my command-ments” (Jn. 14:15). This is an important instruction. Jesus continues, “Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father and I will love him and reveal myself to him” (Jn. 14:21). As followers of Jesus, let us not only expect Him to reveal Himself to us. Let us try to reveal Him to the world and immortalize His life with His love: for they will know we are followers of Christ by our love. Let us embody the love of Jesus and His commandments in our life.

WELCOME BACK!

Our parish bulletin is back today after several weeks of absence. Although you may not have the hard copy of it, please

always visit our parish website to read it. Here is the link: olphewabeach.org. The parish website will also give you up-

dates on our situation with regard to COVID-19 pandemic.

LIVE-STREAMED SUNDAY/DAILY MASS

We hope that your family joins us every Sunday at 9 am for a live-streamed Mass from our own parish. How can you

and your family make the most out of the Mass even though you can’t receive the Eucharist?

♦ Read the Sunday readings prior to Sunday. To find out the readings for the following Sunday, go to Page 1 of our

parish bulletin. You will find the readings at the bottom of the page. You may also go to the website of the United

States Conference of Catholic Bishops : usccb.org. You will find a calendar on the right side of the home page.

Click on the date that you like and the readings will come up. Or, download My Parish App. Text the word “app”

to 88202. You will be given a link to register. The daily and Sunday readings are posted everyday.

♦ Share with the family your reflections on the readings and/or the homily after Mass or at the dinner table. Please

include the children in your sharing time. Share what word or phrase or image stood out in you? Why was it im-

portant? What does the word/phrase/image ask you to do? Young children, Grades Pre-Kinder to Grade 3 may

want to draw and color their reflection. Parents: you may also want to check some activities related to the readings

from catholicmom.com.

♦ During Communion time, read together the prayer for Spiritual Communion. It is posted on the screen.

♦ NOTE: We also live-stream the rosary every day at 8 am followed by the Mass for the day. May is the month of

Mary. Pope Francis encourages all of us to pray the rosary every day.

Thank you for your generosity to help those in

The Adopt A Seminarian project just released a new poster of our seminarians for the Diocese of Honolulu. It’s a take on the Fast and Furious movie poster, usually this project

would collect donations of goodies to send to our seminari-ans during the school year. Because of the pandemic they did send any goodies this semester but we still ask for you

to adopt-a-seminarian by praying for him.

Our seminarians are coming to the end of the school year and so pray for them as they prepare for final exams. Pray

also for our very own seminarian, Ace Tui as his date of or-dination gets closer and closer.

~on a side note; send us a good caption or title to go with

this movie theme poster~

Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us and our seminarians!

Dear God of all the living, you sent your Son Jesus to heal us from illness and sin. We turn to his heal-ing power in this time of anxiety over the pandemic of this potentially deadly virus. St. Damien and St. Marianne Cope dedicated their lives to the service of those who had an infectious disease. St. Marianne Cope said, “I am not afraid of any disease,” because she was confident in your power to save. At the same time, she took prudent precautions of hygiene to assure that she and her Sisters would not be infected. Let us learn from this example to put our trust in you to save us from the ravages of disease and to take prudent measures to prevent its spread. Guide us to know when to isolate ourselves from the possibility of infection, but never let anyone be left without the care and concern of others in the community. As our Diocese of Honolulu has been dedicated to the Divine Mercy, we pray with confidence, “Jesus, I trust in you.” Saint Damien, pray for us! Saint Marianne, pray for us!
