Pope’s Universal Intention For April 2017
Young People. That young people may respond generously to their vocation and seriously consider
offering themselves to God in the priesthood or consecrated life.
Encounter the Risen Christ
We prayed, fasted and gave alms—and now we cele-brate Easter joy! Our Lenten journey with CRS Rice
Bowl ends as we encounter our risen Lord. We reflect on our brothers and sisters whom we have walked with
in India, Zambia, El Salvador, Mexico, Ethiopia and Hawaii. And we commit to bring Easter joy to each per-
son we meet in our daily lives. Don’t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl.
Easter
Blessings
Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 15 & 16, 2017
Acts 10:34a, 37-43 Peter is an eyewitness: The Lord is risen
Psalm 118 “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad.”
Colossians 3:1-4 All who are baptized, set your hearts in heaven, Christ Or 1 Corinthians 5:6b-8 our Passover is sacrificed, Out with the old, in with the new.
John 20:1-9 Three witnesses, Mary, Peter and John respond to the empty Tomb. Or Matthew 28:1-10 (#44) He has been raised from the dead. Or in the afternoon, The Lord is made known in the breaking of the bread. Luke 254:13-35 (46)
Our scripture readings today are all from the New Testament and they all testify to the resurrec-tion of Jesus. In Acts of the Apostles, Peter recounts Jesus’ earthly ministry and concludes with the commissioning of the disciples. This reading fills out the meaning of our Gospel story today, which offers an empty tomb and a glimpse of hope. What does it mean to you that Jesus Christ
had to rise from the dead?
Next week’s readings: Acts 2:42-47; Psalm 118; 1 Peter 1:3-9; John 20: 19-31

Word of Life
“Even among terminally ill patients, a request to die is
nearly always a cry for help…[and] is often asso-ciated with a potentially treatable mental disorder
such as depression or anxiety.”
DID YOU KNOW…. THIS PARISH WILL SOON OFFER CONFIRMATION PRIOR TO FIRST HOLY COMMUNION??
Indeed, all parishes within the Diocese of Honolulu are restoring the Original Order of the Sacraments of Initiation between 2018-2020.
In the early Church, the person was immersed into the waters of Baptism, anointed with chrism, and shared in the Eucharistic meal as part of a sin-gle event. Over time, and for many reasons, the celebration of these three sacraments became separated from one another. In the renewal stemming from the Second Vatican Council, the Church was asked to more clearly set forth the intimate connection of Confirmation with the whole of Chris-tian initiation. This original order also helps us recognize that sharing in the Eucharist completes our initiation into the Church and that it is Eucha-rist which is the “source and summit of our faith.”
Go to www.catholichawaii.org for more information on this important change.
