RATIO OF TRAINERS TO TRAINEES Normally 1:10 PRE-COURSE INSTRUCTIONS AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS All delegates to be registered on the course registration form. - All delegates to be advised of the following - Fire procedure - Toilets and welfare This course is designed as an enhancement of Safe Lifting Module 1 and is only carried out when delegates have successfully completed that course. INTRODUCTION The course is designed to provide:- - A practical enhancement to Safe Lifting Module 1 for those persons responsible for the more detailed periodic inspections of lifting equipment. - The trainees will set up a recording system for the equipment and carry out periodic inspections throughout the life of a number of items of equipment. - The course will also demonstrate some strengths and weaknesses of materials by way of destruction tests. OVERVIEW - This module is designed as an enhancement to Safe Lifting module 1 giving greater detail on the inspection of lifting equipment & accessories - This course also works well in conjunction with an SL1 and SL2 course, to allow delegates to plan and conduct lifting operations and formally inspect their equipment. - SpanSet reserves the right to exclude unsuitable delegates from training courses - This course provides that statutory requirements for inspection, rejection, disposal and reporting procedures for lifting equipment - Delegates must be 18 years or over REGISTRATION - All delegates to be registered on the course registration form. - All delegates to be advised of the following - Fire procedure - Toilets and welfare This course is designed as an enhancement of Safe Lifting Module 1 and is only carried out when delegates have successfully completed that course.

COURSE SYLLABUSTheoryIn addition to the theory elements of Safe LiftingModule 1 the following topics will be emphasised.- The importance of trace-ability for all lifting equipment.

- Completing inspection records.- Inspecting equipment and recording the findings.- Monitoring the continual degradation of items of equipment and assessing the point at which to withdraw items from service.

- Processes for quarantining equipment.- Processes for investigating the effects of contaminants and the details required for returning to service.

Practical- Legislation governing the inspection of lifting equipment.

- The requirements and production of an inspection report.

- Standards and ratings of lifting equipment- Maintenance of lifting accessories- Conducting formal examinations under LOLER on common lifting accessories (slings, shackles, chain slings, wire rope slings, beam clamps, eyebolts, hooks)

- Common faults with equipment- Follow up procedures after an examination

COURSE SUMMARY- In addition to the test carried out in Safe Lifting Module 1 all delegates will be monitored by thetrainer throughout the practical sessions. Any concerns will be addressed by delegate and trainer on a continual basis.

- Throughout the course trainees will have completed a logging system for a range of equipment, this will be assessed by the trainer and the trainees will retain this as an example fortheir records.

ASSESSMENT OF CANDIDATESAll candidates are subject to continuousassessment by the instructor and will be subject toa final assessment exercise.

EQUIPMENT & CLOTHINGAll equipment required throughout the coursewill be provided by SpanSet Ltd.Candidates should provide their owncomfortable clothing and footwear, withprovision made for inclement weatherconditions, i.e. fleeces, waterproofs, windproof,etc.

FOOD & REFRESHMENTRefreshments will be provided throughout theday on all courses.A lunch will be provided on all courses of a dayor more in duration held at SpanSet.
