Sixty-FourthAnnual Report 2017 - 18

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I have the privilege to place before you the 64th

Annual Report and the audited statement of accounts of the Bombay Management

Association for the year ended on March 31st, 2018. Delighted to have the AGM on 14th

July 2018 and ensure the new Committee takes over as close as possible to the financial

year.

The 63rd Annual General Meeting was held on Friday, 19th May, 2017, at 5.00 p.m.at

Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), DadabhaiNaoroji House, Road

No. 3, 164, Backbay Reclamation, H.T. Parekh Marg, Church Gate, Mumbai 400020and the

new team took over.

The stream of activities of the year 2018-19 started flowing with the mantle of President-

ship resting on my shoulders from the 19th May 2018. Activities galore was announced with

the ‘Mission Statement – Leave the Association Better than you Found it”.

New Chapters

The need to activate the dormant sectors of Navi Mumbai and Thane was critical, to arrest

the dwindling number of members who were drifting towards other Associations to meet

their Professional needs. Mr. R S R Murthy, Mr. Anil Joshi, Mr. Harsh Gada & Mr.

Shrikant Velu were appointed as Conveners of these sectors who played a key role in the

turnaround of events and adding vibrancy. Presiding over the inaugural meeting of each of

these chapters, the ball was set in motion by conducting thought provoking evening lectures,

enlisting new members and providing value. The momentum was sustained by a trickle of

MDP month on month in tandem with MDS and frequent meetings with Core Committee in

respective sectors. The Chapters are fully functional with active participation ofSIES,

Oriental Institute of Management(OIM), Evolve Business School & Dr.V.N Bedekar

Institute of Management Studies & Research, supporting the initiative proactively.

Reorientation of MDPs

An important Cost Center of BMA was revamped and energized by introducing technical

workshops with shift from traditional soft skill program approach. The paradigm shift was

made by launching “Smart Manager Series” of 10 Modules which achieved a fair degree of

success. Participation gradually improved with advent of new programs like Agile

Certification Courses, Design thinking in Businesses, Simulation based workshop, Business

Analytics & HR Analytics, Digital Marketing, Statutory Compliances – Labour Law and

Train the Trainer which were trend setters thus opening up new avenues.

Management Development Services

The product of MDS was repackaged to cover new areas and contemporary topics – GST,

yoga &well being, mind therapy, investment in stock market, Digital Transformation,

Career Guidance to Students, Leadership, Book Writing, Budget,Possibility Thinking etc..

The evening lectures proved to be highly beneficial for the members who thronged the

venues in large numbers.

Conferences & Conventions

The dynamics of organizing Conferences &Conventionsfaced radical changes with BMA’s

foray into Digital Space – the Digital Leadership Summit held on 12th Oct 2017 followed by

HR Convention in IR(4 Codes – A Roadmap For Labor Market Reforms) on 19th Jan 2018

and the grand finale being Leadership in Social Responsibility Summit held on 21st

Feb2018. All three conventions emerged as crowd pullers and was a resounding success.

The Digital Leadership Summit:

The Digital Leadership Summit was heldon 12th October 2017 at Hotel-TheLeela, Mumbai

and Chaired by President – BMA. The Conference was attended by over 250 participants.

their continuous support in making the event a grand success. Last but not the least, we

appreciate the hard work put behind the scene by BMA Secretariat (Team BMA). It is only

apt to mention that the day- long event ended with an engaging vote of thanks by Mr. Suhas

Lohokare, VP, BMA and Managing Director, National Peroxide Ltd.

was allotted in the Digital Leadership Summit held on 12th October, 2018. A total of 10

Start Up companies were felicitated for their extraordinary performances based on the core

parameters i.e. financial health, corporate governance and year on year growth. Similarly,

during the 39th edition of BMA Corporate Leadership awards Mr. Shashikanth

Suryanarayanan, Founder & Chairman, Sedemac Mechatronics best start up for the year

HR Convention on Industrial Relations:

BMA, NHRDNjointly presented the Convention on Industrial Relations: 4 Codes – A

Roadmap for Labour Market Reforms Chaired by Mr. Suhas Lohokare, VP - BMA with

TISS as our Knowledge Partner. The daylong conference was aimed at delivering value to

industry leaders across the Corporates, MSMEs, Startups, Academicians, Self-employed,

Management Professionals, Management Students, Entrepreneurs and Representatives of

Trade Unions being led by Mr. Dada Samant.

Leadership in Social Responsibility Summit

Leadership for Social Responsibility Summit which was held on 21st February 2018 at

Hotel Courtyard by Marriot, Andheri, Mumbai,Chaired by Ms. Chhaya Sehgal, CEO, The

Winning Edge, provided a rich learning experience of participating in insightful sessions by

a galaxy of legendary speakers from leading organizations comprising three plenary

sessions preceded by inaugural session which kick started the proceedings of the day. The

open house debate highlighted the collaborative approach to develop a Shared Value

Proposition for the Corporates, NGOs, and B - Schools, Philanthropists and Social

Entrepreneurs with Government being a Driving Force for Impact creation and its

measurement and reporting.

Branding & Social Media

The first step was to revamp the BMA website, several notches up. This herculean task was

done in a record time at a minimal cost of Rs.75K. Footfalls & clicks on the website shot up

phenomenally with a deluge of queries and online registration for membership, MDPs and

Conferences, thereafter. Social media was rejigged leading to surge in number of followers

and which is being used as a prime media for marketing. Email & web hosting domain was

shifted from a revenue draining agency to a cost saving agency thereby resulting in savings

of approximately Rs.5k per annum. We extend a special thanks to Mr. Siddharth Agarwal,

Consultant, BMA Website and Digital Marketing for his contribution.

BMA Sub-Committees

Professionals from different domains be it Marketing, NGOs, Academicians, Corporate

Consulting, Trainers, Media and Armed Forces volunteered to render their expertise and

provided the impetus to conduct a host of programs and activities and complemented the

Executive Committee in their day to day functions.

BMA- Army Collaboration

The Armed Forces-the pride of the Nation partnered with BMA in the sphere of Yoga

&Well being, Resettlement of Retires (Veterans) and Service Officers participating in BMA

affairs as co-opted members. The scope of collaboration is expanding and the bond is

growing stronger with generation of employment opportunities for over 5000 veterans

retiring every year in Maharashtra. BMA also commemorated the 3rd& 4th International

Yoga day on two consecutive occasions on 21st June of 2017 &2018 with Maharashtra,

Gujarat and Goa Area (MG&G Area), Military Station, Colaba.

Registration of BMA as Public Trust:

Page 11: 64thAnnual Report: 2017 - 2018 · 2018-11-20 · BMA AGM FY 2017/18 Page 3 5th July, 2018 To All BMA Members Revised Notice of the 64th Annual General Meeting Owing to unavoidable

Commissioner (MCC) which was initiated the previous year, is nearing completion with

MCC accepting the changes to various object clauses of Memorandum of Association

redrafted by Advocate Rahul Ranpise, Legal Representative. Certificate of Registration as a

Public Trust is likely to be issued within a month’s time.

BMA Secretariat

Accounts Consultant, Marketing Executive, MIS Assistant, Executive Secretary, Accounts

Secretariat for summer internship and supplemented the staff efforts in the execution of

assigned tasks. The primary focus was to improve efficiency and be effective.
