SMRT Kim Chuan Depot - 4th August 2016the Depot is the world’s largest underground depot at 160m wide, 17m high and a floor area equivalent to 17 football fields put together. The depot is designed to stable the trains for the Circle Line and can hold up to a capacity of 70 trains.

The Depot is the largest underground train depot in the world. The depot houses trains for the Circle Line. Equivalent to about 17 football fields, the depot is about 17 metres underground tomaximisetheuseofspace.Capableofstablingabout70trains,SMRTKimChuanDepotishometotheOperationControlCenterthatmanagesthetrainsalongtheCircleLineandhasfacilitiesforstorageforthevehiclefleet,preventiveandcorrectivemaintenanceworksandsystemoperations.TheDepotControlCenter,whichrunsthetrainsinKimChuanDepot,isalsolocated there.
ThetwohoursitevisittoSMRTKimChuanDepotwillincludethepresentationofthecorporatevideoalongwiththeoverviewofthetrainsandtheCircleLine(CCL)system,whichisthefirstfully underground orbital railway line connecting all mass rapid transit lines running into Singapore, connecting the inner suburban areas of the city. SMRT Kim Chuan Depot - 4th August 2016TheSMRTKimChuanDepotisthelargestundergroundtraindepotintheworld.The depot houses trains for the Circle Line. Equivalent to about 17 football fields, thedepotisabout17metresundergroundtomaximisetheuseofspace.Capableofstablingabout70trains,SMRTKimChuanDepotishometotheOperationControl Center that manages the trains along the Circle Line and has facilities for storage for the vehicle fleet, preventive and corrective maintenance works and systemoperations.TheDepotControlCenter,whichrunsthetrainsinKimChuanDepot, is also located there. DuringtheconstructionoftheKimChuanDepot,atotalof2.1millioncubicmetresofsoilhadtobeexcavatedforitsconstructionand340,000m³ofconcretewasused.Pre-castconcreteelementswereextensivelyusedintheprojectforlaboursavingconsideration.Acomplexelectricalsupplysystemhas been implemented in the depot through 3 load centres via 200 sub main and distribution boards. Due to the vast area, numerous fans were installed to ventilate the depot and a comprehensive fire protection system. AtwohoursitevisittoSMRTKimChuanDepotwillincludethepresentationofthecorporatevideoalongwiththeoverviewofthetrainsandtheCircleLine(CCL)system,which is the first fully underground orbital railway line connecting all mass rapid transit lines running into Singapore, connecting the inner suburban areas of the city.
