THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C) 6th November, 2016 We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au During the month of November We will process in with the memorial book honouring our loved ones who have gone before us. You are invited to: Light a taper for your loved one and place it in the bowl provided Add the names of your loved ones who have died in the last 12 months or so to the memorial/ record on the altar in your church. In this bulletin is a list of all the people whose funerals we have celebrated within our three churches over the past 12 months. May their souls Rest in Peace Reflection: In Jesus’ time, as is still the case today, there were those who looked to make themselves feel bigger, or appear better, by attempting to trap and ensnare those who stood out as ‘tall poppies’, or whose world view didn’t agree with theirs. They use complicated legal argument and hypotheticals to try to show others up, and sometimes, cause them to second guess their own actions and intent. Politicians (and the Sadducees were politicians - the conservatives, or Old Believers) often operate in this realm – consider the current debate about Hilary Clinton’s use of email servers, the question over the legitimacy, or otherwise, of Bob Day’s election to the Senate, or Bronwyn Bishop’s choice of transport options. Just as in today’s gospel, this focus on ‘letter of the law’ interpretation limits our thinking about the big picture, and what is possible. The Sadducees didn’t believe in eternal life as their thinking was limited to an understanding of our mortal existence. In today’s world, many amongst us don’t believe in mercy, or taking care of our neighbour – let’s not second guess our own faith or beliefs when challenged by small-minded thinkers. will process in with the memorial

book honouring our loved ones who

Reflection: In Jesus’ time, as is still the case today, there were those who looked to make

themselves feel bigger, or appear better, by attempting to trap and ensnare those who stood out

as ‘tall poppies’, or whose world view didn’t agree with theirs.

They use complicated legal argument and hypotheticals to try to show others up, and sometimes,

cause them to second guess their own actions and intent.

Politicians (and the Sadducees were politicians - the conservatives, or Old Believers) often operate

in this realm – consider the current debate about Hilary Clinton’s use of email servers, the

question over the legitimacy, or otherwise, of Bob Day’s election to the Senate, or Bronwyn

Bishop’s choice of transport options.

Just as in today’s gospel, this focus on ‘letter of the law’ interpretation limits our thinking about

the big picture, and what is possible. The Sadducees didn’t believe in eternal life as their thinking

was limited to an understanding of our mortal existence. In today’s world, many amongst us don’t

believe in mercy, or taking care of our neighbour – let’s not second guess our own faith or beliefs

when challenged by small-minded thinkers. Matt Lovegrove - PLT

ST. PETER'S FETE -

SATURDAY 12TH NOVEMBER - 11AM - 5PM

For us to continue to deliver on our ’ master plan’ it is essential that this and every fete be a huge success. Our community needs every family at St Peter’s to put this date in their diaries and be willing to donate at least one hour to the success of the Fete whether it be on the day or if that is impossible then in the time leading up to the Fete. This is such a wonderful community Day!

PLEASE NOTE:

• Fete Raffle Tickets - It would be great if all families could sell their book. There are some great prizes to be won with the 1st Prize a $2000 Travel Voucher. More books are available from the Office upon request. Your support is very much appreciated. • To Volunteer—please click on this linkhttp://signup.com/go/iKwsum for an hour or two of your time to make this year's Fete the best ever!! (See below also)

PRELOVED TOYS, TRASH & TREASURE & SECOND HAND BOOKS - The Lighthouse will be open all day every day leading up to the Fete to drop off toys, books, trash & treasure etc.

Children's’ Christmas Cards The children at St Paul’s and St Catherine’s are currently drawing Christmas scenes that

will be put into Christmas Cards from those two Schools. These will be hand-delivered to

every Catholic Family in Moorabbin and Bentleigh during December. Parents and Parishioners

will be invited to deliver these cards. It is a good family exercise.

A short meeting will be held in St Paul’s Hall on Tuesday 29 November at 7.30pm.

Volunteers will be able to collect the cards. They will be in addressed envelopes.

Visitors will be asked to visit about 12 to 15 homes. We hope it will be a time of grace for those visited

and those doing the visit.

Feedback from children:

“We feel very happy when we give Christmas Cards to people”

“We feel happy and proud, and loved how the person’s face lit up, they thanked us and gave us a hug.”

This Sunday’s Gospel: Luke 27-38

Some Sadducees – those who say that there is no resurrection – approached Jesus and they put this

question to him, ‘Master, we have it from Moses in writing, that if a man’s married brother dies

childless, the man must marry the widow to raise up children for his brother. Well, then, there were

seven brothers. The first, having married a wife, died childless. The second and then the third

married the widow. And the same with all seven, they died leaving no children. Finally the woman

herself died. Now, at the resurrection, to which of them will she be wife since she had been married

to all seven?’

Jesus replied, ‘The children of this world take wives and husbands, but those who are judged worthy

of a place in the other world and in the resurrection from the dead do not marry because they can no longer die, for

they are the same as the angels, and being children of the resurrection they are sons of God. And Moses himself

implies that the dead rise again, in the passage about the bush where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, the God

of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Now he is God, not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all men are in fact alive.’
