Padre’s Pen ~Sixth Sunday of Easter
Alas, there are not enough hours in a day. Sometimes I joke that I need a “Joshua Day.” In Joshua 10:13, we read that the sun stood
still for a day so Israel could defeat their enemies. We really need a Joshua Day to defeat this virus and I need it to defeat the administrative backlog in my computer and on my desk. Without a Joshua Day all we can do is just keep pecking away on the tasks at hand.
So, one of the biggest tasks at hand is preparing for a limited reopening of our churches. We will be allowed to seat up to 1/3 capacity. We still are not allowed choirs or choir books/missals/hymnals. We can have lectors but no servers. We have to sanitize after every Mass. We still need to socially distance at 6 feet, but families in the same household may sit together… think you get the point. There’s just a lot of requirements.
Of most concern to me is how we cycle our people through Mass in an equitable manner. The Archdiocese is recommending that members over 65 still stay at home (on that note, the Sunday obligation is still suspended until further notice). As of this writing, it looks like we will do some combination of “Sign-up” online and telephone notification. More to come in the next week or so.
We will continue to do our Live Stream Rosary and Masses according to the current schedule. Although we will be adding back our 8:15 pm, 8:00 am, and 8:30 am Masses (as long as we have Fr. Skluzacek’s assistance), those Masses will not be livestreamed.
Also, please note that the 8:15 pm Mass will remain at St. John in Union Hill. There is slightly more seating available at St. John, so there will be a bit more opportunity to get more people back to the celebration of Mass. And Mass at St. Wenceslaus will remain in the church. Our Livestream ability is connected to the camera we have mounted on the wall in the back of the church. I realize that in both these cases we are forgoing the air-conditioned environments. We will accommodate with fans, open windows/doors, etc., to insure airflow.
I thank everybody for their patience and support. I suspect we will be making adjustments for the foreseeable future both from outside policy changes and from internal changes as we figure out the best practices. Despite all the struggles and adjustments, we can give praise and thanks to God for the ongoing celebration ofthe Sacraments!
Ad Christum per Mariam,
Fr. Theisen

Religious EducationToday we will hear from Laura Schoenecker, the Director of Religious Education.
Your outreach to our parishioners has changed a bit through this time; what are some positives you have seen coming out of this pandemic, personally and professionally?Laura: Well, personally, my life has slowed down a bit, I am home for supper more, no evening events, I’m walking more and spending more time with my husband, which has been a nice blessing.
Professionally, it has been … interesting. We have had to cancel Summer Plus Disciples of Christ, VBS, Totus Tuus, Summer Stretch, Stuebenville, and Catholic Heart Work Camp. We have also had to postpone reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist, both still a work in progress. Our Baccalaureate Mass will look different this year.
But, it has also been an opportunity for us to reach out to our family of parishioners in new ways. You will notice more social media, streaming of Masses, weekly correspondence via email to all parishioners; (please email [email protected] to update your e-mail address!) Faith Formation family lessons going home each week. Opportunities to live out the Catholic Social Teachings, etc… Many blessings can be found if we are open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
I see families worshiping together at home and using the lessons to grow in their faith and talk about how Jesus is alive and working in their lives today amidst the storms we may face. These are discussions that we may have been “too busy” to enter into prior to Covid. That is a huge blessing.
What are some of the downfalls?Laura: We miss our kids, we miss our families, we miss celebrating the sacraments with them. We miss all the wonderful adult opportunities we had planned. Groups were in the middle of their 99 Handbook studies.

PARISH AND AREA NEWS
Continued from Page 3...
We had really been building the small group communi-ties in our parish, and it’s sad to see that put on hold. As you know, we have a dedicated, caring, faith-filled staff; I miss my daily interaction with them. The wonderful Syn-od process the Archdiocese had been working on has also been put on hold ~ but, we know our God has a plan …He will use all of this for His good.
Anything else you would like us to know?Laura: We can still have JOY if we keep things in the right order; (Jesus, Others, You). This is a crazy time in our lives, one we didn’t ask for but one we have to adjust to. I think we have to turn our focus to what is good and treat each other kindly. Trust in God, rely on the Holy Spirit, and turn to Jesus as your guide. May you recognize His many blessings in your lives and know that your parish staff is here to help in any way we can. His peace and blessings, Laura

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Our parish staff will be working at the office a bit more in the coming weeks. You may reach us at 952-758-3225. Please leave a message if we are unable to answer your call. You may also email [email protected] and one of us will respond.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Livestreaming Update:We will continue to livestream daily Masses until Wed., June 17th. On that occasion, our free trial is set to ex-pire. We will then purchase a plan which will allow us to livestream the 10:30 am Mass on Sundays and the Wednesday daily Mass each week. Each month there will be a few extra hours that we can livestream special events, if needed. We are grateful that we have been able to bring the Mass to so many each day during this dif-ficult time!
An Invitation from the Green Team ~ 2020We have many beautiful raingardens, perennial gardens, annual gardens, and planters that beautify our buildings and accent the parking lots. Help is needed from stu-dents, adults, and families to keep our plantings healthy and looking good all summer. Please consider adopting a garden for the summer or select a week or more to help weed and water: 1. the gardens around the school 2. the Mary Garden or 3. the walkway gardens west of the PAC. FAITH FORMATION ANDYOUTH MINISTRY
Confirmation UpdateWell, here we are in a place no one ever
thought we would be. I am praying all our families will get through this as best we can. It is a stressful and traumatic time. Hopefully your faith will aid and comfort you and yours right now. I was so looking forward to our summer Confirmation program! During the summer months, we will cover lessons 1-12 of our program Chosen. Now that we are planning on a home program, here are some guidelines:
Lessons and the workbook are available for pickup in the Parish Activities Center entryway at St. Wenc-eslaus. Doors will be open Monday-Friday, noon to 4 pm. They will be labeled and arranged alphabetically on the bench. Each lesson will have room to write and re-spond to questions/reflections from the workbook and videos. These lessons are designed to be done with a parent/guardian not solo. I am sure you will enjoy this faith building opportunity! Don't do the lessons all at once! This program builds on itself; time between les-sons allows for thoughtful reflection and growth. If you have any questions, please contact Pamela Sherlock [email protected] or 952-758-0477. Please register using this link: https://npcatholic.org/summer-confirmationregistration
For those who have completed their Confirmation preparation (9th and 10th grades), we are moving forward towards a date! With relaxing of the MN Stay-at-
Home order and soft reopening of churches at the end of the month, we are planning for your candidate's Con-firmation. What it will look like is still in planning, as lim-its/numbers/guidelines are changing daily. If you have any questions, please contact Pamela Sherlock.
SCHOOL NEWS from SWS
Become part of our family!~ The SWS Family!We invite anyone with children in pre-school to grade 8 to join our school fam-
ily next fall. In our recent survey, parents expressed that one outstanding quality of sending their children to our Catholic school is the fact that the entire family becomes involved in the school life. This is a place where people of similar religious beliefs join together. This is a place where virtues are taught, and we can practice what we learn with each other ~ both young and older alike. This is a place that our families call home! Join us. Al-though tours cannot be taken at this time, you can begin to talk about this possibility with our school principal, Kim Doyle. Check it out and see if our school environ-ment will be a good fit for your children and for [email protected] / 952-758-3133
To help us stay in touch with you, please make sure that we have updated contact information. Please email your updates to [email protected] or call 952-758-3225. Thank you!
