1) The best of books ever is al Quran: Allah’s guidance for mankind and a healing and that which restores faith and that which is full of hikmah and gives us the criteria to judge the right from the wrong. Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Azim

2) This instant reference manual is nothing but making notes from it. Quran is like a sea of pearls. Every time one dives into it one comes up with pearls.

3) This reference manual also quotes from the Sunnah of our beloved prophet of Allah Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam which is wisdom taught by Allah swt to him and from him to us

4) The manual is a compilation of various topics, ten in all, from various existing sources and existing notes or otherwise .may Allah swt bless the countless Muslims who have written extensively in the service of Allah’s deen.

5) The intention behind this manual is not be a scholarly work which it is not rather inspire the readers to strive for more knowledge of Allah’s deen and use it to serve mankind.

Dua we need to make always is” ... .& ما ل ي ع ب% زدن 20:114ر : "…..My Lord!

Increase me in knowledge."

Narrated Muawiya: I heard The Prophet (pbuh) saying, "If Allah wants to do good to Person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allah. (And remember) that this nation (true Muslims) will keep on following Allah's teachings strictly & they will not be harmed by any one going on a different path till Allah's order (Day of Judgment) is established." [Bukhari]

6) Dawah is a must even if it be knowing one “verse

Page 3: 7 Akhlaq Final

The Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) آية ولو عني بلغوا

said,

((Propagate from me, even if it be one ayah (verse)(bukhari)

Many scholars now agree its Fard al-‘ayn means a personally obligatory religious duty in little or

large measure upon each of us.

7) This instant reference manual thus lays the foundation of knowledge for a da’ee and encourages him/her to seek more and build upon what’s in these notes with further studies from the right Quran and Sunnah scholars and scholarly works. The best book to study once again is al Quran.

8) What is the instant reference manual about?a) We had in the dawah training programmers held taught the basic ten profiles of a

madhu( one who is invited to Islam)b) These were 1) the agnostic 2) the atheist 3) the evolution theory propagator4) the

modernist & the apologetic 5) sincere seeker of truth6)the diehard followers of other religions 7)the fence sitter8) the hater and enemy of Muslims and Islam 9)misguided youth/women/the ill 10) Muslims on shirk.

c) The ten topics covered in this manual are 1) tawheed2) risalah3) the inimitability of The Quran 4) creation versus evolution 5) pillars of Islam 6) akhirah 7) akhlaq and adab in Islam 8) Islam FAQ’s 9) comparative religion 10) stories of the reverts

This manual is to thus help the dae’e address the various profiles as above with wisdom and beautiful preaching. Quran 29: 46. And argue not with the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), unless it be in (a way) that is better (with good words and in good manner, inviting them to Islamic Monotheism with His Verses), except with such of them as do wrong, and say (to them): "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you; our Ilah (God) and your Ilah (God) is One (i.e. Allah), and to Him we have submitted (as Muslims)."

d) We thus need to study the Quran...The sunnah and to teach what little or more we may have acquired from such a study and we need to set our heart into it..As ibn qayyim put it “Seek out your heart in three situations: - When you are listening to the Qur'an -When you are part of a gathering of remembrance -When you are alone and away from the world and its distractions. If you cannot find your heart in these three situations, then ask Allah to bestow upon you a heart, for indeed you are bereft of one."

But remember,

Prophet (saw) as reported by Jabir (ra) who said "Do not acquire knowledge in order to compete with the scholars, nor to argue with the ignorant, nor to gain mastery over the gathering. Since whoever does this then: the fire, the fire". (Abu Dawud, 3/3656)

It is reported that Abu Hazim Al-Ashja'i (d. 100H; companion of Abu Hurairah) said: "If you find yourself in a time when speech is accepted as knowledge and knowledge is accepted as deeds (instead of putting it into practice), then you are in the worst time and with the worst people."Abu Bakr Al-Daynuri, Al-

Legacy of dawa’h

From the time...Allah swt announced…

And it is they who are the successful.

And the prophet .s.a..s asked some 1400 plus years ago of those assembled to hear him during the last khutbah ..

O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY ( last sermon..bukhari)

And subhanAllah, they did!

And Islam spread and spread overcoming false gods and religions, nations, kings, tribes, armies, enemies, rulers, hollow and shallow traditions and cultures, Allah’s deen was to overcome all.

Page 6: 7 Akhlaq Final

So on foot or on camel backs or in ships that sailed across the seas and oceans or armies that overcame those that resisted the truth and traders and scholars, men ,women and the young spread Islam to all parts of the world due to which we are Muslims today, no less than 1.6 billion. Alhamdulillah.

So don’t worry, the Muslims have had a great success given to them by Allah swt whenever the Muslims the pious predecessors and our forefathers have been sincere in their efforts of spreading His deen. This is the legacy of dawa’h we have inherited.

So the message is in our hands today, it’s now up to us to spread further the mission of Allah’s messenger and take the message to every nook and corner we can.

It is not us who guide but Allah swt guides whom He wills. Ours is to deliver the message.

6: 125. And whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam, and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky. Thus Allah puts the wrath on those who believe not.

And only those of us will succeed who :

Why akhlaq?

Moral virtues in man gain him eternal happiness, while moral corruption leads him to everlasting wretchedness. It is therefore necessary for man to purge and purify himself of all evil traits of character and adorn his soul with all forms of ethical and moral virtues. Moreover, without having cleansed oneself of all evil habits, it would be impossible to nourish and develop moral virtues in oneself. The human soul can be compared to a mirror in this regard. If we wish to see something beautiful reflected in a mirror, we must first cleanse the mirror, so that dust and dirt do not disfigure the reflection. Any attempt to obey Allah swt commands would be fruitful and successful only when one has purified himself of evil habits and tendencies; otherwise, it would be like putting on jewels on a dirty and unwashed body. When self-purification has been pursued and one is rid of evil habits of thought, speech and action, then the soul is ready to receive the unlimited grace of Allah azza wa jal. Such reception is the ultimate reason for which man was created.

On Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "They said, 'Messenger of Allah, whose Islam is best?' He said, 'The one from whose tongue and hands the Muslims are safe.' ( Bukhari)

It was related from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe. An emigrant (muhajir) is someone who abandons what Allah has forbidden." (Book of belief –bukhari)

The hadith below highlights what traits are endearing to Allah swt?

Bukhari :: Book 2 :: Volume 24 :: Hadith 504

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are:

(1) a just ruler;

(2) a young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, (i.e. worship Allah (Alone) sincerely from his childhood),

(3) a man whose heart is attached to the mosque (who offers the five compulsory congregational prayers in the mosque);

Page 14: 7 Akhlaq Final

(4) two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only;

(5) a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for an illegal sexual intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah;

(6) a person who practices charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity).

(7) a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears."

So we should study akhlaq with all of sincerity and earnestness with the sole aim of making it part of our words, deeds and actions.

TOPIC 7: AKHLAQ AND ADAB

7.1 COMMANDS ON AKHLAQ AND ADAB IN THE QUR’AN

Who is a believer?

Who fear Allah and put all their trust in Allah and have their faith strengthened by the ayat

8:2 The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His Verses (this Qur'an) are recited unto them, they (i.e. the Verses) increase their Faith; and they put their trust in their Lord (Alone)

39:23. Allah has revealed (from time to time) the most beautiful Message in the form of a Book, consistent with itself, (yet) repeating (its teaching in various aspects): the skins of those who fear their Lord tremble thereat; then their skins and their hearts do soften to the celebration of Allah.s praises. Such is the guidance of Allah. He guides therewith whom He pleases, but such as Allah leaves to stray, can have none to guide.

Who fall down in sajda and are not proud 32:15

Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

Do not spend time with those who talk evil or do evil

25:72

25:72. And those who do not witness falsehood, and if they pass by some evil play or evil talk, they pass by it with dignity

Beware of the wrong use of social media networking sites

It is a fact social media sites can lead to lots of vain talking, playing about ,wasting time and explosion of unwanted relationships which are unislamic in nature and intent, unwanted unregulated interactions of the sexes, the islamic guidelines are :

70.42.So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!- (The Noble Quran, 70:42)"

74.45."(The sinners will say 'But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;'

5.2.Help you one another in righteousness and piety, but help you not one another in sin and rancor…]

the hadith of ibn Abbas radiAllahuanhu reported in the mustadrak of Al-Haakim, musnad Imam Ahmad, and others, with an authentic chain of narration. In this hadith the Prophet salAllaahualayhiwasallam said to a man while he was advising him:

"Take advantage of five matters before five other matters: your youth, before you become old; and your health, before you fall sick; and your richness, before you become poor; and your free time before you become busy; and your life, before your death."

The Prophet, peace upon him, said, “All of the speech of the Child of Adam will be held against him, it will not be in his favor; except commanding good, forbidding wrong, or the remembrance of Allah.”

[Tirmidhi, #2412]

The Prophet, peace upon him, mentioned, “Do not speak excessively in other than the remembrance of Allah, for verily excessive speech in other than the remembrance of Allah hardens the heart, and the heart another hadith says ..most distanced from Allah is the hard heart.”

[Tirmidhi, #2411]

The example of a righteous and evil companion is like one who carries perfume and another who is a blacksmith. As for the one who carries perfume, he will either give you some perfume, you might buy some, or [at least] you will find a pleasing scent with him. As for the blacksmith, either he (the blacksmith) will burn his clothes, or you will find a hideous odor from him.”

[Bukhari #1995 & Muslim #2628]

So can we say from above that the wrong use of social media sites fits into the verses and ahadith above?

7.2 THE BASIC COMMANDMENTS

Do not fall prey to slander.ask for witnesses

it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having faith [i.e. to call Your Muslim brother (a faithful believer) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked", etc.]. and Whosoever does not repent, Then such are indeed Zâlimûn (wrong-doers, etc.).

Avoid suspicion , backbiting, gossip etc

49.12. O You who believe! avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. and spy not, neither backbite one another. would one of You like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting) .and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is the one who accepts repentance, Most Merciful.

Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.

Do Dua for virtuous spouse

25:74. And those who say: “Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders of the Muttaqoon (the pious).”

The Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) was reported to have said: 'The most perfect Muslim in the matter of faith is one who has excellent behavior; and the best among you are those who behave best towards their wives"

(From Mishkat al-Masabih, No. 0278(R) Transmitted by Tirmidhi).

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, "All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. A man is the shepherd of the people of his house and he is responsible. A woman is the shepherd of the house of her husband and she is responsible. Each of you is a shepherd and each is responsible for his flock."

Truly, Your Lord knows best who has gone astray from his path, and He is the best Aware of those who are guided.

Do not revile their false gods

But we are to propogate..

آية ولو عني بلغوا The Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) said, ((Propagate from me, even if it be one ayah (verse)(bukhari)

And the prophet’s command was..

Learn from this narration:

Abu sufyan’s conversation with Heraclius( brief extract)

Heraclius asked, 'Do the nobles or the poor follow him?' I replied, 'It is the poor who follow him.' He said, 'Are his followers increasing decreasing (day by day)?' I replied, 'They are increasing.' (Bukhari)propagate even if you know one verse (this is mentioned in Sahih Al-Bukhari).

Make way for one another.be foremost in the way of Allah

58.11. O You who believe! when You are told to make room In the assemblies, (spread out and) make room. Allâh will give You (ample) room (from his Mercy). and when You are told to rise up [for prayers, Jihâd (holy fighting In Allâh's Cause), or for any other good deed], rise up. Allâh will exalt In degree those of You who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. andAllâh is Well-Acquainted with what You do.

Enjoy what Allah has blessed you with but dont be extravagant

7.31. O Children of Adam! take Your adornment (by wearing Your clean clothes), while praying and going round (the Tawâf of ) the Ka'bah, and eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allâh) likes not Al-Musrifûn (those who waste by extravagance).

Do not covet what others or non believers may have

2:212. Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they mock at those who believe

3:14 Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet: Women and sons; Heaped-up hoards of gold and silver; horses branded (for blood and excellence); and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world's life; but in nearness to Allah is the best of the goals (To return to).

20: 131. And strain not your eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to various groups of them (polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), the splendour of the life of this world that We may test them thereby. But the provision (good reward in the Hereafter) of your Lord is better and more lasting

4:32 And in no wise covet those things in which Allah Hath bestowed His gifts More freely on some of you than on others: To men is allotted what they earn, and to women what they earn: But ask Allah of His bounty. For Allah hath full knowledge of all things.

Allah loves those who are pure and clean

9.108. never stand You therein. Verily, the mosque whose foundation was laid from the first Day on piety is more Worthy that You stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. andAllâh loves those who make themselves clean and pure (i.e. who clean their private parts with dust [i.e. to be considered as soap) and water from urine and stools, after answering the call of nature].

And Allah sees your inner beauty

Abu Hurairah has related that the Holy Prophet (sa) said: Allah does not regard your bodies and looks, but looks at your hearts (Muslim)

Purification of the soul

91:7 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

91:8 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,

91:9 He has succeeded who purifies it

20: 76. 'Adn (Edn) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), under which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever: such is the reward of those who purify themselves [(by abstaining from all kinds of sins and evil deeds) which Allah has forbidden and by doing all that which Allah has ordained)].

Purifying and offering salah gets us forgiveness

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him?" They said, "Not a trace of dirt would be left." The Prophet added, "That is the example of the five prayers with which Allah blots out (annuls) evil deeds."

'If anyone Performs ablution like that of mine and offers a two-rak'at prayer during which he does not think of anything else (not related to the present prayer) then his past sins will be forgiven.' (Bukhari)

Purify with clean earth if no water

5:6 O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salât (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to ankles. If you are in a state of Janâba (i.e. had a sexual discharge), purify yourself (bathe your whole body). But if you are ill or on a journey or any of you comes from answering the call of nature, or you have been in contact with women (i.e. sexual intercourse) and you find no water, then perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands. Allâh does not want to place you in difficulty, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His Favour on you that you may be thankful.

Someone asked him, "But what if what I say is true?" The Messenger of God said, "If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him." (Muslim)

Guard your modesty for( men as well as the women)

24: 30. Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do.

For the women:

24:31 And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their head covers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.

Hijab protects:

33:59 O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more

Raiment of righteousness is better

7.26. O Children of Adam! we have bestowed raiment upon You to cover yourselves (screen Your private parts, etc.) and as an adornment, and the raiment

of righteousness, that is better. such are among the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh, that they may Remember (i.e. leave falsehood and follow Truth ).

Do not eat up one another’s property or cheat

2.188. and eat up not one another's property unjustly (in any illegal Way e.g. stealing, robbing, deceiving, etc.), nor give bribery to the rulers (judges before presenting Your cases) that You may knowingly eat up a part of the property of others sinfully.

Allah does not like evil to be voiced in public

4:148 Allah loveth not that evil should be noised a broad in public speech, except where injustice hath been done; for Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth all things.

Nor hold secret counsels for evil reasons

58:7 Have you not considered that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth? There is in no private conversation three but that He is the fourth of them, nor are there five but that He is the sixth of them – and no less than that and no more except that He is with them [in knowledge] wherever they are. Then He will inform them of what they did, on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allah is, of all things, Knowing.

58:9. O you who believe! When you hold secret counsel, do it not for sin and wrong-doing, and disobedience towards the Messenger but do it for Al-Birr (righteousness) and Taqwa (virtues and piety); and fear Allah unto Whom you shall be gathered.

Page 34: 7 Akhlaq Final

58:10. Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Shaitan (Satan), in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allah permits, and in Allah let the believers put their trust .

Avoid those who are in vain discourse about the signs of Allah

6:68 When thou seest men engaged in vain discourse about Our signs, turn away from them unless they turn to a different theme. If Satan ever makes thee forget, then after recollection, sit not thou in the company of those who do wrong.

Ask permission to enter someone’s home, go back if no response

24:27. O ye believe! Enter not houses other than your own, until ye have asked permission and saluted those in them: that is best for you, in order that ye may heed (what is seemly).

24:28. If ye find no one in the house, enter not until permission is given to you: if ye are asked to go back, go back: That makes for greater purity for yourselves: and Allah Knows well all that ye do."

Stand up for truth and justice and against wrong even if it be against one self or atleast wish in your mind against it

4: 135.O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do.

5:8 O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allâh and be just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is WellAcquainted with what you do.

Hadith:

On the authority of Abu Sa’id al-Khudri, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhiwasallam, say:

“When any one of you sees anything that is disapproved (of by Allah), let him change it with his hand. If he is not able to do so, then let him change it with his tongue. And if he is not able to do so, then let him change it with his heart, though that is the weakest (kind of) faith.”

[Muslim]

Do not seek hidden meanings ending in disputes and fitnah

3. 7.It is He Who has sent down to you (Muhammad ) the Book (this Qur'an). In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book [and those are the Verses of Al-Ahkam(commandments, etc.), Al-Fara'id(obligatory duties) and Al-Hudud(legal laws for the punishment of thieves, adulterers, etc.)]; and others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah(polytheism and trials, etc.), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord." And none receive admonition except men of understanding. (Tafsir At-Tabari).

Simple solution :

4:59. O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad ), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger , if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination

Page 37: 7 Akhlaq Final

On the authority of Aishah, who said : The messenger of Allah said:"He who innovates something in this matter of ours that is not of it will have it rejected."narrated by (Bukhari and Muslim)

Do not go to the extremes in your religion/actions

Whats lawful is clear from whats unlawful. avoid that what is doubtful

On the authority of Al-Numan bin Basheer, who said : I heared the messenger of Allah say :"That which is lawful is plain and that which is unlawful is plain and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which not many people know. Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor, but he who falls into doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allah's sanctuary is His prohibitions. Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh which, if it be whole, all the body is whole and which, if it be diseased, all of it is diseased. Truly it is the heart."narrated by (Bukhari and Muslim)

In many matters the middle path is better

17: 67.And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor niggardly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes).

5:77 Say: "O People of the Book. Do not go to extremes in your religion, asserting other than the truth, and do not follow the whims and desires of people who were misguided previously and have misguided many others, and are far from the right way."

2:185 Allah desires ease for you; He does not desire difficulty for you"

the Prophet declared, in a hadith contained in the Sahih al-Bukhari, ‘Your body also has rights over you. Your Lord also has rights over you. Your guest also has rights over you. Your wife and children also have rights over you. That is why you should fulfill the rights of the Lord of the rights.’

Allah does not impose on any self something more than it can stand. For it is what it has earned; against it, what it has brought upon itself. "

2:286 "Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not place on us a load like the one You placed on those before us. Our Lord, do not place on us a load we have not the strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Master, so help us against the unbelievers.

Page 38: 7 Akhlaq Final

Prophet s.a.s said make things easy for the people

Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), who made the Qur'an his guide gave this advice to his people: "Make things easy for the people, and do not make it difficult for them. Make them calm (with glad tidings), and do not repulse (them)"

(Sahih Bukhari).

Don’t be extreme in your acts of ibadah

Anas said, "Three people came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to ask about how the Prophet worshipped. When they were told, it was as if they thought it was little and said, 'Where are we in relation to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who has been forgiven his past and future wrong actions?'" He said, "One of them said, 'I will pray all of every night.' Another said, 'I will fast all the time and not break the fast.' The other said, "I will withdraw from women and never marry.' The Messenger of Allah came to them and said, 'Are you the ones who said such-and-such? By Allah, I am the one among you with the most fear and awareness of Allah, but I fast and break the fast, I pray and I sleep, and I marry women. Whoever disdains my sunna is not with me.'" [Agreed upon]

'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "When one of you dozes off while he is praying, he should go and lie down until he is no longer sleepy. If someone prays when he is drowsy, he may not know whether he is asking for forgiveness or asking for something bad for himself." [Agreed upon]

The middle path

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The deen is easy. Anyone who makes the deen too hard on himself will find it becomes too much for him. So aim for what is right, follow a middle path, accept the good news of the reward for right action, and seek help [to reach your goal by being constant in worshipping] in the morning, evening and some of the night."

[al-Bukhari]

Hasan ibn Ali (r.a) relates that he learnt the following from the Holy Prophet (sa): Leave alone that which involves thee in doubt and adhere to that which is free from doubt, for truth is comforting and falsehood is disturbing. (Tirmidhi)

IbnMas'ud reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Those who make things hard for themselves will be destroyed." He said it three times. (Muslim)

Do not kill innocent beings or create fitnah, saving a life is saving all of mankind

5: 32. Because of that We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it

Page 39: 7 Akhlaq Final

would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. And indeed, there came to them Our Messengers with clear proofs, evidences, and signs, even then after that many of them continued to exceed the limits (e.g. by doing oppression unjustly and exceeding beyond the limits set by Allah by committing the major sins) in the land!.

7:56 Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the Mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good.

11: 85"And O my people! give just measure and weight, nor withhold from the people the things that are their due: commit not evil in the land with intent to do mischief.

17:33. And do not kill anyone which Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause……

Allah swt checks one group with another to stop fitnah on earth

2:251 By Allah.s will they routed them; and David slew Goliath; and Allah gave him power and wisdom and taught him whatever (else) He willed. And did not Allah Check one set of people by means of another, the earth would indeed be full of mischief: But Allah is full of bounty to all the worlds.

7.4 KNOW YOUR ENEMY NO 1 :SHAITAN:

Shaitan threatens us with fear of poverty

2:268. The Evil one threatens you with poverty and bids you to conduct unseemly. Allah promiseth you His forgiveness and bounties. And Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things.

Shaitan has evil intentions for us

7:17. "Then will I assault them from before them and behind them, from their right and their left: Nor wilt thou find, in most of them, gratitude (for thy mercies)."

7:18. ((Allah)) said: "Get out from this, disgraced and expelled. If any of them follow thee,- Hell will I fill with you all.

Don’t allow shaitan to seduce you to do wrong

7:27. O ye Children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you, in the same manner as He got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame: for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We made the evil ones friends (only) to those without faith.

Page 40: 7 Akhlaq Final

Don’t take the evil ones for friends

6:128. One day will He(Allah swt) gather them all together, (and say): "O ye assembly of Jinns! Much (toll) did ye take of men." Their friends amongst men will say: "Our Lord! we made profit from each other: but (alas!) we reached our term - which thou didst appoint for us." He will say: "The Fire be your dwelling-place: you will dwell therein for ever, except as Allah willeth." for thy Lord is full of wisdom and knowledge.

Shaitan will disown those who took him as a freind

14:22. And Satan will say when the matter is decided: "It was Allah Who gave you a promise of Truth: I too promised, but I failed in my promise to you. I had no authority over you except to call you but ye listened to me: then reproach not me, but reproach your own souls. I cannot listen to your cries, nor can ye listen to mine. I reject your former act in associating me with Allah. For wrong-doers there must be a grievous penalty."

Shaitan has no power whatsoever if we keep faith in Allah and obey Him

15:39. (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,-

15:40. "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."

15:41. ((Allah)) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me.

15:42. "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee."

Spendthrifts are the brothers of the evil ones

17:27. Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the Evil Ones; and the Evil One is to his Lord (himself) ungrateful.

Music, illegal sexual intercourse, usury are tools of shaitan

17:64. "And Istafziz [literally means: befool them gradually] those whom you can among them with your voice (i.e. songs, music, and any other call for Allah's disobedience), make assaults on them with your cavalry and your infantry, mutually share with them wealth and children (by tempting them to earn money by illegal ways usury, etc., or by committing illegal sexual intercourse, etc.), and make promises to them." But Satan promises them nothing but deceit.

Page 41: 7 Akhlaq Final

Intoxicants, gambling, fortune telling and by inference drugs ,astrology, birth charts etc are tools of shaitan too

5:90.O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, Al-Ansab , and Al-Azlam(arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitan's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful .

91. Shaitan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?

Shaitan has no authority over the slaves of Allah

17:65. "Verily! My slaves (i.e the true believers of Islamic Monotheism), you have no authority over them. And All-Sufficient is your Lord as a Guardian."

Shaitans suggestions are a trial for us

22:53. That He may make the suggestions thrown in by Satan, but a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease and who are hardened of heart: verily the wrong-doers are in a schism far (from the Truth)

With each one of us is a evil one trying to mislead us with his suggestions

A'isha the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), reported that one day Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came out of her (apartment) during the night and she felt jealous. Then he came and he saw me (in what agitated state of mind) I was. He said: A'isha, what has happened to you? Do you feel jealous? Thereupon she said: How can it he (that a woman like me) should NOT feel jealous in regard to a husband like you. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: It was your devil who had come to you, and she said: Allah's Mes- senger, is there along with me a devil? He said: Yes. I said: Is devil attached to everyone? He said: Yes. I (Aisha) again said: Allah's Messenger, is it with you also? He said: Yes, but my Lord has helped me against him and as such I am absolutely safe from his mischief.

[SahiMuslim Book 039, Number 6759]

Shayatin are friends of those who are evil and lying persons

26:221.Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin(devils) descend?

26:222. They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person.

Page 42: 7 Akhlaq Final

Shayatin have no knowledge of the unseen save what hearsay and vanities they use as tools to mislead

26:223. Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars.

35:6. Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy. He only invites his Hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.

7.5 HOW TO SAVE OURSELVES FROM SHAITAN AND HIS TRIBE

Enter into islam fully or follow it in full and not follow footsteps of shaitan

2: 208 O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islam (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the Islamic religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). Verily! He is to you a plain enemy.

24: 21 .O you who believe! Follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). And whosoever follows the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan), then, verily he commands Al-Fahsha' [i.e. to commit indecency (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.)], and Al-Munkar [disbelief and polytheism (i.e. to do evil and wicked deeds; to speak or to do what is forbidden in Islam, etc.)]. And had it not been for the Grace of Allah and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from sins. But Allah purifies (guides to Islam) whom He wills, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

Saying Auzubillah – Bismillah

The following is mentioned in the Quran about that:

41.36.“If Satan tempts you, seek refuge in Allah”

That is, say “Auzubillahimina’sh-shaytani’r-rajim” (I seek refuge in Allah) from the accursed Satan)

It is also recommended to take refuge in Allah with the verses in surah al-Muminoon

23.97-98“Rabbi auzubika min hamazati’sh-Shayatinwaauzubika Rabbi an yahdurun” It means; O Lord! I seek refuge in you from the evil suggestions of the Satans. And I seek refuge in you, O my Lord, from their presence. .”

While getting into/being in the house say bismillah much

Another hadith reported from Jabir about Bismillah points to the importance of saying bismillah while getting into houses and before having a meal.” The Prophet said: “If a person says bismillah, when he returns his house, gets into house and before the meal, Satan says to his friends ‘you cannot stay

Page 43: 7 Akhlaq Final

overnight here and there is no food for you’ However, if the person says it before getting in but does not say it before dinner, Satan says: ‘You can have dinner but it is impossible to stay overnight’ However, if the person does not say bismillah while getting into the house and before eating, Satan says ‘You can have dinner and stay overnight here.”

( Muslim, Ashriba, 103, (2018); Abu Dawud, At'ima, 16, (3765).)

While getting out of the house say bsimillah much

Saying bismillah before getting into the house protects us from the wickedness of the Satan and keeps him away from the house. It is clear that a man needs to be protected in the street too. Saying auzubismillah is necessary for it. However, the Prophet was not contended with just auzubillah and bismallah and added some other prayers. In a hadith reported by Abu Hurayra, the Prophet says: “If anyone who goes out of his house says:”in the name of the Allah I seek refuge in Allah, He has the power”, he is replied: “Go ahead you are led to the right way and you are protected”. The Satan stays away from him.”(Tirmizi, Daawat, 34, (3422) Surah Al-Baqara: ayatul-kursi and amanar-rasulu In a hadith reported by Abu Hurayra, The Prophet says: ”do not turn your houses into graves, The Satan runs away from the house in which surah al-Baqara is read”

(Muslim, Misafirin, 212, (780)

In another hadith it is told that those two verses are “Amana’r-rasulu, the last two verses of surah al-Baqara.(Tirmizi, Sawabu’l-Qur’an, 4/2882)

In bed, before sleeping

There are several prayers that the Prophet read in bed before sleeping. In a hadith about the issue reported by Burayda, the Prophet says: “O the Lord of the seven Heavens and those shadowed by Heavens, the Lord of the Earths and those that live on them, the Lord of the demons and those tempted by demons! Protect me from the wickedness of all those creatures. Protect me so that none of them can attack me suddenly. One who is protected by you surely becomes great. Your praise is great, there is no God but you and you are the only God

(Tirmizi, Daawat, 96, (3518).)

When scared in the sleep

According to a report from Imam Malik, Khalid IbnuWalid asked the Prophet: “I get scared in my sleep (what do you suggest me to do?). The Prophet advised to him to pray like this: “I seek refuge in Allah from the wrath and anger of Him, from the wickedness of people, from the suggestions and from the temptations of the demons”

Page 44: 7 Akhlaq Final

(Muwatta, Shi’r, 9, (2, 950).)

While getting into the toilet.

Toilets, dumps, baths, cemeteries, ruins are places frequently haunted by jinn and demons. The Prophet would read this prayer while getting into the toilet: “Allahummainniauzubikamina'lkhubthive'l-khabaith. (O Lord I seek refuge in you from filth and from wicked creatures (like jinn and demon).

(Bukhari, Wudu, 9)

Takbir, tasbih, tahmidTasbihat (glorifications)

Following daily prayers can be done in a mosque or in any place where we perform prayer and can also be done while walking in the street, while driving, in the bed before sleeping. The following is mentioned about the issue in the Quran; “Those who remember Allah, standing, sitting and lying down on their sides and meditate upon the creation of the heavens and the earth." (Aal-e-Imran, 3/191.)

Tasbihat should never be abandoned and should be done wherever we are. The Prophet says that the Satan makes people remember their daily works and make them perform the prayer quickly and haphazardly and make them go straight to their work or fall asleep without doing tasbihat.

La ilahaillallahuwahdahu la-sharikalah,

It is one of prayer tasbihat in the level of supplication. The Prophet said in a hadith reported by Abu Hurayra “A person who says the prayer: ‘La ilahaillallahuwahdahu la-sharikalah, lahu'lmulkuwalahu'l-hamduwahuwaalakullishay'inqadir’ one hundred times a day gains the reward of setting ten slaves free and gains one hundred good deeds and one hundred sins of his/her are erased. It also protects him/her from the Satan for three days until evening.

(Bukhari, Daawat, 54)

Surah al-Ikhlas against suggestions of the Satan

In a hadith, a suggestion of the Satan is mentioned and it is advised to read surah al-Ikhlas and spit three times towards the left side.

Mu'awwidhatayn (Surahs an-Nas and al-Falaq)

It is said that The Prophet read surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas and advised his companions and his wife Aisha to read them in order to be protected from the wickedness of jinn.

Page 45: 7 Akhlaq Final

A hadith reported by Hazrat Aisha is as follows: “When the Prophet got into his bed blew into his hands and read Muawwizatayn and al-Ikhlas and rubbed his hands his face and his body with his hands and repeated that three times. When he got, sick he demanded me to do the same thing to him.”

(Bukhari, Fazailu'l-Qur'an, 14)

Repent often

How to repent? For repentance to be accepted by Allah, one should go through these four stages:

1- Stop the sin.2- Regretting deeply and truly for the sin you committed.3- Return to Allah for forgiveness.4- Strong intention never to return to that same sin again.

What would help in fulfilling the above four stages? The repenting person should remember three facts:

1. The grave consequence of sins.2. The painful punishment for sins and 3. How week a person is when committing such sins.

Abu Bakr Al siddiq (May Allah be pleased with him), narrated:

"I heard Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) saying: ‘There isn’t a man who, when he commits a sin, rises, makes ablution, and offers two rak'as of prayers, but Allah forgives his sins.’

Allah says in the Qur'an:

3.135."Those (are the true believers) who, when they commit an evil deed, or wrong their souls, remember Allah, and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who but Allah forgives sins? They do not insist upon the sins they have committed, and they know (that Allah is forgiving)."

39:53.Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

39:54. "And turn in repentance and in obedience with true Faith to your Lord and submit to Him, before the torment comes upon you, then you will not be helped.

Page 46: 7 Akhlaq Final

39:55. "And follow the best of that which is sent down to you from your Lord (i.e. this Qur'an, do what it orders you to do and keep away from what it forbids), before the torment comes on you suddenly while you perceive not!"

53:32. Those who avoid great sins and Al-Fawahish (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) except the small faults, verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness. He knows you well when He created you from the earth and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows best him who fears Allah and keep his duty to Him

Race for forgiveness and pleasure of Allah

57:21. Race one with another in hastening towards Forgiveness from your Lord (Allah), and towards Paradise, the width whereof is as the width of heaven and earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers. That is the Grace of Allah which He bestows on whom He pleases. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.

7.6 DO DHIKR OF ALLAH SWT OFTEN,SUPPLICATE TO HIM OFTEN

Dhikr of Allah is the most excellent act of Allah's servants and is stressed over a hundred times in the Holy Qur'an

Allah says in His holy Book:

& يرا ث & ك را ه ذك لل وا ر ذك وا ذين آمن ل ها ي iأ ٱي ٱ ٱ "

33.41.O Believers, make abundant mention of ALLAH!"

To do dhikr..relflecting,pondering over the creation of Allah swt standing ,sitting and sleeping

3: 191.Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.

The Prophet said: "If your hearts were always in the state that they are in during dhikr, the angels would come to see you to the point that they would greet you in the middle of the road." Muslim narrated it.

Page 47: 7 Akhlaq Final

Dhikr in salah

29:45Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.

20: 14. "Verily! I am Allah! La ilahailla Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I), so worship Me, and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) for My Remembrance

Hadith qudsi :

"Allah says: I am to my servant as he expects of Me, I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in his heart, I remember him to Myself, and if he remembers me in an assembly, I mention him in an assembly better than his..."

(Bukhari and Muslim)

Allah has bestowed a special distinction upon those who remember Him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "The single-hearted (al-mufarridun) have surpassed all." They asked, "Who are these single-hearted people, O Prophet of Allah?" He replied, "Those men and women who remember Allah unceasingly."

(Muslim)

33: 41.O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance.

2: 152.Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying, etc.). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me.

Tahajjud or late night prayer

good for governing ourselves and our desires and learning the quran

73:6 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjudprayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing oneself, and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah).

The Excellence of Qiyaam al-Layl:

Many Qur'aanic verses speak about the excellence of Qiyam and the merits of those people, who perform Qiyaam al-Layl on a regular basis, for example, Allah describes the believers who deserve

Page 48: 7 Akhlaq Final

Jannah saying: “They (the believers) forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope; and they spend out of what We have bestowed on them.” [Soorah as-Sajdah (32): 16]

“They (the pious) used to sleep but little at night.”[Soorahath-Thariyat (51): 17]

Also, numerous Ahadeeth add to this subject, narrated Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahuanhu): “The Messenger of Allah (sallallahualaihiwa-sallam) said: “The best prayer after those prescribed is (the prayer performed) in the depth of night.”

[Saheeh Muslim and Musnad Ahmad]

Jabir (radhiallahuanhu) reported, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahualaihiwa-sallam) saying: “There is an hour of the night which no Muslim person encounters and asks for a good thing for this life or the Hereafter, but Allah grants it to him. This happens every night.”

[Saheeh Muslim]

7.7 DO’S AND DONT’S OF DUA

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "A slave becomes nearest to his Rubb when he is in prostration. So increase supplications in prostrations.''[Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith points out the exellence of supplicating while prostrating in Salat, as one gets closer to Allah in this position.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH), "The supplication of every one of you will be granted if he does not get impatient and say (for example): `I supplicated my Rubb but my prayer has not been granted'.''[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: We learn from this Hadith that one should continue beseeching Allah without ever thinking that in spite of praying for a long time, his prayer has not been granted. One should never allow frustration to overcome in his mind. If a person's supplication is not granted for a long time, there would be certainly some good for him in that delay the reason of which is known to Allah Alone. It is, therefore, essential that he should never cease to pray whether his prayer is granted or not. Persistence in prayer is certainly beneficial to him.

Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to say when he was in distress: "La ilahaillallahul-Azimul-Halim. La ilahaillallahuRabbul-`Arshil-`Azim. La ilahaillallahuRabbus-samawati, waRabbul-ardi, waRabbul-`Arshil-Karim. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Incomparably Great, the Compassionate. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb of the Mighty Throne. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb of the heavens, the Rubb of the earth, and the Rubb of the Honourable Throne).''[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Page 49: 7 Akhlaq Final

Commentary: The only medicine in a time of distress is the remembrance of Allah Whose Help alone should be sought. This Du`a contains words which glorify Allah and exalt Him far above all else. It is desirable to recite these words when one is in distress as this is exactly what the Prophet (PBUH) used to recite in such situations.

`Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Whenever a Muslim supplicates Allah, He accepts his supplication or averts any similar kind of trouble from him until he prays for something sinful or something that may break the ties of kinship.'' Upon this someone of the Companions said: "Then we shall supplicate plenty.'' The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah is more plentiful (in responding).''[At-Tirmidhi].

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon him) said, “There are two statements that are light for the tongue to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful: `Subhan-Allahiwabihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Azim [Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah, the Greatest is free from imperfection)'.''[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was asked: "At what time does the supplication find the greatest response?'' He (PBUH) replied, "A supplication made during the middle of the last part of the night and after the conclusion of the obligatory prayers.''[At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: "Al-'Akhir'' is the characteristic of "Jauf'' and in the present context it means the late hours of night. "Jauf'' can also mean here "middle'', that is in the later-half of the night.

In other words, if the night is divided between two equal parts then it (Jauf) would be the middle of the second part. In either case it is the time of the night which in other Ahadith has been termed as the third part of the night. It is the time when Almighty Allah comes to descend on the sky of this world.

Prayers are also granted by Allah after the obligatory Salat.

Commentary: We learn from this Hadith that prayer (supplication) is beneficial to us in any case, because Almighty Allah either grants the prayer we make, or if the supplication is not being accepted, He removes some future trouble that was destined for us, or He grants us in full in the Hereafter.

A Muslim should never feel shy of praying to Allah. In fact, he should persistently pray because there is no end to His Treasures.

Absolute Trust in Allah (swt) (Al-Tawakkul A’lal-Allah)

Beautiful words of our beloved prophe s.a.s to his companion abu bakr ra

If ye help not (your leader), (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him, when the Unbelievers drove him out: he had no more than one companion; they two were in the cave, and he said to his companion, "Have no fear, for Allah is with us": then Allah sent down His peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not, and humbled to the depths the word of the Unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is Exalted in might, Wise.

Tawakkul is a fundamental part of the Islamic Aqeedah. Tawakkul is translated here as either trust or dependence. Putting our trust in Allah (swt) is a matter of belief and contributes to our view regarding this life. To make this point clear, some of the Ayahs are quoted as below. Allah (swt) says:

3:160

And Allah (swt) says:9.51.“Say: Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our Protector: And on Allah let the believers put their trust.”

And Allah (swt) says:26.217.“And put they trust on the exalted in Might, the Merciful.”

When you take a decision trust in Allah

Allah (swt) also says:3: 159. And by the Mercy of Allah, you dealt with them gently. And had you been severe and harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about you; so pass over (their faults), and ask (Allah's) Forgiveness for them; and consult them in the affairs. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah, certainly, Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).

The hadith on tying of the camel

Page 51: 7 Akhlaq Final

A man came to the Prophet (saw) and said, “I will not tie my camel and trust in Allah” The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Tie it and trust in Allah.’( tirmidhi)

This Hadith does not indicate any prerequisite for trusting Allah (swt). It does not, therefore suggest that somehow there is a link between people tying the camel (an action) and putting ones trust in Allah (swt). However, the Hadith conveys an important lesson to all of us: That while trust in Allah (swt) is absolute being independent of what we do it is our responsibility to act on what we intended to accomplish. In this case tying the camel was a right thing to do if the person feared that the camel would run away. Therefore he should have taken the precaution regardless of his trust in Allah (swt). Tying the camel does not take away from his trust in Allah (swt), irrespective of our efforts and the circumstances surrounding us.

Show gratitude to Allah..thank Him often, glorify Him often

2:152 Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying), I will remember you, and be grateful to Me and never be ungrateful to Me.

Infinite mercies of Allah upon us

16.18.If you tried to number Allah's blessings, you could never count them. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Be grateful at all times don’t be “musrifunthat”

10:12 And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him! Thus it seems fair to the Musrifunthat (transgressors)which they used to do.

Thank Allah specifically

26: 78. "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me;

26:79. "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink.

26:80. "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me;

27:19. So he [Sulaiman (Solomon)] smiled, amused at her speech and said: "My Lord! Inspire and bestow upon me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favours which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds that will please You, and admit me by Your Mercy among Your righteous slaves."

Can anything else be more eye opening?

Page 52: 7 Akhlaq Final

Ayesha reported: "The Prophet used to offer prayers at night (for such a long time) that his feet used to crack. I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! Why do you do it since Allah has forgiven you your faults of the past and those to follow?' He said, 'Shouldn't I love to be a grateful servant?'" (Bukhari)

Have you thanked Allah today?

So ……

what are the lessons? And what to do when you feel distress, suffer loss or you are passing through a time of trial and tribulations or some illness etc?

1) Tighthen, fasten, hold on firmly to your faith at such times. do not despair of the mercy and help of Allah

3:160 If Allah helps you none can overcome you, and if He forsakes you, who is there, after Him, that can help you. And in Allah (alone) let believers put their trust.

4:175. Then those who believe in Allah, and hold fast to Him,- soon will He admit them to mercy and grace from Himself, and guide them to Himself by a straight way.

12:87----Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people."

15:56 He said: "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord, but such as go astray?"

Prophet s.a.s used to do this dua in times of distress"'O Allah, I hope for our mercy! Do not leave me to myself for the blink of an eye. Put all of my affair in order. There is no god but You.'"Narrated by Abu Dawood (5090); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

2) do dhikr, tasbih, hamd, takbir much.daily.every minute you can, with a smile on your face.

7:180 the most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call (supplicate) on Him by (invoking) them”

The messenger of Allah said:"Purity is half of faith. alhamdu-lillah [Praise be to Allah] fills the scales, and subhana-Allah [How far is Allah from every imperfection] and alhamdu-lillah [Praise be to Allah] fill that which is between heaven and earth. Prayer is light; charity is a proof; patience is illumination; and the Quran is an argument for or against you. Everyone starts his day and is a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or bringing about its ruin."related by Muslim.

3) Take stock.what wrong are we doing??Are we caught in some fahsha, act of lust or an act of the mind or indulging in desires that we know are fasle and are to be elimninated, or

Page 53: 7 Akhlaq Final

are we caught in some fitnah..Act of deceit.betrayal, lying, waste of time, vain talking? Are we in the company of those who are in the wrong

5:57. O ye who believe! take not for friends and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery or sport,- whether among those who received the Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but fear ye Allah, if ye have faith (indeed).

24:21. O you who believe!

53:61 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements

The Prophet Muhammad [2] said: "lâ yuldighu-l mu'minû min juhrin marratayn," meaning, "The believer is not stung from (the same) hole twice" (bukhari)

4) Do a good deed, start! a good deed cancels out a bad deed. Smile often. feed the poor or help the needy and see the instant difference it makes to your life. Speak a good word to the distressed or displaced or the unfortunate or the one challenged and see how you feel lighter and content in your own sorrow or distress.

2:263 kind words and forgiving of faults are better than Sadaqah (charity) followed by injury. And Allah is Rich (Free of all needs) and He is Most-Forbearing

Wondrous are the believer's affairs. For him there is good in all his affairs, and this is so only for the believer. When something pleasing happens to him, he is grateful, and that is good for him; and when something displeasing happens to him, he is patient, and that is good for him." (Muslim)

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin Al-‘As: A man asked Allah’s Messenger, “Which act in Islam is the best?” He replied, “To feed (the poor and the needy) and to salute everyone, whether you are acquainted with them or not.” ( Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah’s Messenger said, “Be prompt in doing good deeds (before you are overtaken) by turbulence which would be like a part of the dark night. During (that stormy period) a man would be a believer in the morning and turn to disbelief in the evening, or he would be a believer in the evening and turn disbeliever in the morning, and would sell his Faith for worldly goods.” (Muslim)

'Umar b. al-Khattab narrated that the Prophet (S) said: Deeds are [a result] only of the intentions and an individual is [rewarded] only according to that which he intends. Therefore, whosoever has emigrated for the sake of Allah and His messenger, then his emigration was for Allah and His

Page 54: 7 Akhlaq Final

messenger. Whosoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain, or a woman [whom he desires] to marry, then his emigration is for the sake of that which [moved him] to emigrate." Narrated by (Bukhari and Muslim).

5) fast on a Monday and a Thursday.

Prophet s.a.s used to fast on a Monday and Thursday in sahih hadith

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Deeds are shown (to Allaah) on Mondays and Thursdays, and I like my deeds to be shown when I am fasting.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 747; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1041

6) get up for tahajjud. do many prostrations and ask for help.

Ibn 'Umar (may Allaah be pleased with them both), who said: "The Prophet (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) used to perform the night prayers two by two (rak'ahs), then he would end with a single rak'ah." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, al-Fath, no. 940)

32:16. Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (in charity in Allaah’s Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them.

Prophet said said: “You should pray qiyaam al-layl, for it is the custom of the righteous who came before you and it brings you closer to your Lord, and expiates sins and prevents misdeeds.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3549; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 452.

7) Tell yourself nothing will happen to you except what Allah swt has decreed or due to the evils of our own actions.

9:51. Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protector": and on Allah let the Believers put their trust.

57:22. No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allah

4.79.Whatever evil befalls you, it is from your own self"

8) Stop being part of places where theres much fitnah and fahsa immediately.

6:70. Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except Allah. if it offered every ransom, (or reparation), none will be accepted: such is (the end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they will have for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, one most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting Allah.

Page 55: 7 Akhlaq Final

3:118. O ye who believe! Take not into your intimacy those outside your ranks: They will not fail to corrupt you. They only desire your ruin: Rank hatred has already appeared from their mouths: What their hearts conceal is far worse. We have made plain to you the Signs, if ye have wisdom.

9) Have you been ungrateful in the past to Allah’s mercies upon you and gone on to do sins of the same kind? Desist. repent much, do not delay! Beg for mercy. He is oft returning!

10.12. and when harm touches man, He invokes us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. but when we have removed his harm from him, He passes on his Way as if He had never invoked us for a harm that touched him! Thus it seems fair to the Musrifûn that which they used to do.

12: 53. "And I free not myself (from the blame). Verily, the (human) self is inclined to evil, except when my Lord bestows His Mercy (upon whom He wills). Verily, my Lord is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

10) Do not praise evil or support it.

4:85. Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein: And whoever recommends and helps an evil cause, shares in its burden: And Allah hath power over all things.

11) Do Istiqara

It is clear that it is a mistake to limit istikhaarah to rare cases or few issues. Rather the Muslim should turn to Allaah and seek His guidance in all his affairs concerning which he is hesitant. Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allaah be pleased with her) prayed istikhaarah when she received a proposal of marriage from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) commented on that by saying in Sharh Muslim (9/224):

This shows that it is mustahabb to pray istikhaarah for the one who is thinking about doing something, whether the matter is evidently good or not. This is in accordance with the hadeeth of Jaabir in Saheeh al-Bukhaari: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to teach us pray istikhaarah in all things.” And perhaps she prayed istikhaarah because she was afraid that she might fall short with regard to his rights (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

12) do duas much

40:60 And your Lord says:;Call on (supplicate to) Me; I will answer your ( Du’a -Prayer): But those who are too arrogant to serve Me will surely find themselves in Hell in humiliation.

13) save your eeman. dont sit with those who have no emaan or less emaan or who do much of nothing but vain talking. you laugh along with those vulgar you become a part of them. subhanAllah .be careful.!

Page 56: 7 Akhlaq Final

6.68.When thou seest men engaged in vain discourse about Our signs, turn away from them unless they turn to a different theme. If Satan ever makes thee forget, then after recollection, sit not thou in the company of those who do wrong. "

28.55.And when they hear vain talk, they turn away there from and say: 'To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant.'"

70.42."So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!-

74.45."(The sinners will say 'But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;'"

14) Have the attitude of a believer

31.17.O my son! Establish Salaah, enjoin good, forbid evil, and bear with Sabr whatever befalls on you, indeed, that is quite a resolute, high caliber of the tasks."

15) Do not take your desires as your god!

25:43. Have you seen him who has taken as his ilah (god) his own desire? Would you then be a Wakil (a disposer of his affairs or a watcher) over him?

16) Submit to qadr and strive to overcome what you think you should and develop the wisdom to know the difference

64:11. No kind of calamity can occur, except by the leave of Allah. and if any one believes in Allah, ((Allah)) guides his heart (aright): for Allah knows all things.

17) Know that the life of this world is a deception and don’t be swayed by all that you see around you

3:185 Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception

18) Know and be firm knowing that Allah swt is the reality He has given us a life to lead and now its up to us we accept it and lead it as per His guidance or follow the ever changing ways of mankind.

10: 31. Say: "Who is it that sustains you (in life) from the sky and from the earth? or who is it that has power over hearing and sight? And who is it that brings out the living from the dead and the dead from the living? and who is it that rules and regulates all affairs?" They will soon say, "(Allah)". Say, "will ye not then show piety (to Him)?"

3:19 'Inna Ad-Dina `Inda Allahi Al-'Islam

3:19 Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam

Page 57: 7 Akhlaq Final

19) who are the greatest losers amongst us?

18.103-104.Say: "Shall I inform you of the greatest losers in their actions? People whose efforts in the life of this world are misguided while they suppose that they are doing good."

20) Finally don’t let your heart be locked up or gather rust

Allah (SWT) says, “Will they not then ponder over the Quran, or is it that they have locks on their hearts!?” [Quran, 47:24]. Also “(This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee, full of blessing, that they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may reflect.” [Quran, 38:29]

The Holy Prophet said:” Undoubtedly, the heart gets rusted like metal gets rusted when water goes over it”. The People asked, “How can they [hearts] be cleaned.” The Prophet replied, “To remember death in abundance and to recite the Holy Quran.” (Mishkat/tabrizi). The holy Quran acts as a cleaner for the hearts of the people. The more you read it the cleaner would be your heart.

21) hold firm to live and die as a muslim

3:102. O you who believe! Fear Allah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.

33.21.An excellent pattern have ye in the Messenger of God.

Reviving the sunnah

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) urged us to adhere to the sunnah and not neglect it. He said: “You must adhere to my Sunnah and the way of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs who come after me. Adhere to it and cling to it strongly, and beware of newly-invented matters, for every newly-invented matter is an innovation (bid’ah) and every innovation is a going astray.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (4607) and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood

The Prophet visited me at Mecca while I was ill. I said (to him), "I have property; May I bequeath all my property in Allah's Cause?" He said, "No." I said, "Half of it?" He said, "No." I said, "One third of it?" He said, "One-third (is alright), yet it is still too much, for you'd better leave your inheritors wealthy than leave them poor, begging of others. Whatever you spend will be considered a Sadaqa for you, even the mouthful of food you put in the mouth of your wife. Anyhow Allah may let you recover, so that some people may benefit by you and others be harmed by you."

Bukhari :: Book 7 :: Volume 64 :: Hadith 269

The definition of the best muslim

"I asked the Messenger of God : Who is the best Muslim? The Messenger of God replied, "He is the one from whom Muslims are safe from the evil of his tongue and hands."(Muslim)

Deriding people in their presence by making negative facial expressions or by hand gestures while they are unaware is also a form of backbiting.

We need to beware of the slipping of our tongues

"When man wakes up in the morning each day, all parts of the body warn the tongue saying, ‘Fear God as regards us for we are at your mercy; if you are upright, we will be upright and if you are crooked, we become crooked.’" (At-Tirmidhee)

Five before the other five

The Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam frequently made the following supplication: Oh Allah, I seek your protection from, alajz which means the inability to do something. And when someone said, I can't do that, The Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam would seek protection from such negative speech by adding: and I seek your protection (Oh Allah) from alkasl which is translated as laziness.

(Bukhari)

And in the Mustadrak of al-Hâkim, it is reported that Ibn Abbâs narrated that the Messenger of Allâh (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said to a man while advising him:take advantage of five things before five other things: from your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your richness before your poverty, your free time before you become occupied, and from your life before your death."

Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties.) And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes." (See Hadith No. 558, Vol. 9.)

The Prophet said, "To be good and dutiful to one's parents," 'Abdullah asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" The Prophet said, To participate in Jihad for Allah's Cause." He said: Commander of Faithful, what are these? He said: Allah cursed him who cursed his father; Allah cursed him who sacrificed for anyone besides Allah; and Allah cursed him who accommodates an innovator (in religion) ; and Allah cursed him who changed the minarets (the boundary lines) of the land.

Bukhari :: Book 7 :: Volume 72 :: Hadith 826

Narrated IbnMas'ud:

Allah has cursed those women who practise tattooing or get it done for themselves, and those who remove hair from their faces, and those who create spaces between their teeth artificially to look beautiful, such ladies as change the features created by Allah. Why then shall I not curse those whom Allah's Apostle has cursed and who are cursed in Allah's Book too?

Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 1106

Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 80 :: Hadith 747

Kindness towards animals

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a well and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, 'This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine. So he (went down the well), filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him." The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?" He replied, "Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate."

Muslim is the brother of another Muslim

Bukhari :: Book 3 :: Volume 40 :: Hadith 551

Page 67: 7 Akhlaq Final

"A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor does he leave him at the mercy of others

Relieves from a believer some grief pertaining to this world

[Sahih Muslim]

It was related on the authority of Abu Hurairah, (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him Said;“Whosoever relieves from a believer some grief pertaining to this world, Allah will relieve from him some grief pertaining to the Hereafter. Whosoever alleviates the difficulties of a needy person who cannot pay his debt, Allah will alleviate his difficulties in both this world and the Hereafter. Whosoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. Allah will aid a servant (of His) so long as the servant aids his brother. Whosoever follows a path to seek knowledge therein, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise”.

One limb of it complains, the rest of the body reacts

[Muslim]

An-Nu’manibn Bashir reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAS) said:

“The likeness of the believers in their mutual love, mercy and affection is that of the body. When one limb of it complains, the rest of the body reacts with sleeplessness and fever”

Your smile to your brother is a sadaqah

[Bukhari and Muslim]

Abu Dhar reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

“Your smile to your brother is a sadaqah (charitable act) for you. Your commanding the right and forbidding the wrong is a sadaqah. Your guiding a man in the land of misguidance is a sadaqah for you. Your seeing (showing the way) for a man with bad eyesight is a sadaqah for you. Your removing a stone or thorn or bone from the road is a sadaqah for you. Your emptying your bucket of water into your brother’s (empty) bucket is a sadaqah for you.”

Faith has over 70/60 branches

The Prophet (s) said, “Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya(shame, humility, self-respect, honor, bashfulness, shyness)’ is a part of faith.” (Bukhari)

Page 68: 7 Akhlaq Final

[Tirmidhi]

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said: Faith has over seventy branches or over sixty branches, the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is no god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the, removal of what is injurious from the path: and modesty is the branch of faith.

The Prophet never used bad language

[Sahih Muslim]

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: "The Prophet never used bad language neither a 'Fahish nor a Mutafahish. He used to say 'The best amongst you are those who have the best manners and character.'

Pride prevents one from being admitted into jannah

[ SahihBukhari]

It Is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him), observed: He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace. Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people.

Signs of nifaq/hypocricy

[Sahih Muslim]

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: "The Prophet said, "Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up.

Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner."

Show mercy to mankind to gain Allahs mercy

[ SahihBukhari]

Page 69: 7 Akhlaq Final

Narrated Jarir bin 'Abdullah: "Allah's Apostle said, 'Allah will not be merciful to those who are not merciful to mankind.'

Entertain your guest generously

[ SahihBukhari]

Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle said, "Anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not harm his neighbor, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should entertain his guest generously and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quiet. (i.e. abstain from all kinds of evil and dirty talk).

Strong is one who controls his anger

[SahihBukhari]

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The strong-man is not one who wrestles well but the strong man is one who controls himself when he is in a fit of rage.

Neither nurse mutual hatred, nor jealousy, nor enmity

[Muslim]

"Anas b. Malik reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Neither nurse mutual hatred, nor jealousy, nor enmity, and become as fellow brothers and servants of Allah. It is not lawful for a Muslim that he should keep his relations estranged with his brother beyond three days

Rights of one muslim over the other

[Muslim]

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Don't nurse grudge and don't bid him out for raising the price and don't nurse aversion or enmity and don't enter into a transaction when the others have entered into that transaction and be as fellow-brothers and servants of Allah. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He neither oppresses him nor humiliates him nor looks down upon him. The piety is here, (and while saying so) he pointed towards his chest thrice. It is a serious evil for a Muslim that he should look down upon his brother Muslim. All things of a Muslim are inviolable for his brother in faith: his blood, his wealth and his honour

Don’t be greedy

[Muslim]

Page 70: 7 Akhlaq Final

"The son of Adam reaches the old age and two of his habits do not leave him. One is greed and the second is the unending succession of hopes."

[Muslim]

If the son of Adam is given a valley of gold, he will desire to have another one. And if the other is also given, he will be greedy to have the third one. The hunger of Adam's son will not be satisfied except when his remains are mixed with the dust. And the one who turns to Allah, Allah accepts his repentance."

33.21. indeed In the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) You have a good example to follow for Him who hopes In (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much.

Summary of some of the Teachings of the prophet s.as (not exact words but the

Gist of his teachings)

7.9 PRIDE – WORLD(references to be added)

Pride

The proud will not enter Paradise, nor a violent speaker. He will not enter hell, who hath faith equal to a single grain of mustard seed in his heart; and he will not

enter Paradise, who hath pride equal to a single grain of mustard seed, in his heart. Muhammad s.a.s said, "That person will not enter Paradise who hath one atom of pride in his heart." And

a man present said, "Verily, a man is fond of having good clothes and good shoes." Muhammad s.a.s replied, "Allah is Beauty and delighteth in the beautiful; but pride is holding man in contempt."

Progress

Everyone is divinely furthered in accordance with his character. It is your own conduct which will lead you to reward or punishment, as if you had been destined therefor. Every human being hath two inclinations - one prompting him to good and impelling him thereto, and the

other prompting him to evil and thereto impelling him; but Divine assistance is near, and he who asketh the help of Allah in contending with the evil promptings of his own heart obtaineth it.

The best of good acts in Allah swt sight is that which is constantly attended to although maybe in a small degree.

Page 71: 7 Akhlaq Final

Prophecies

Prophet s.a.s warned :I swear by the Lord, if ye did but know what I know of the future state, verily ye would laugh little and cry much.

Verily, of things which I fear for you, after my departure from the world, is this: that the ornaments and goods of the world may be pleasing to you. Then a man said, "O Messenger of Allah! Doth good bring harm?" Muhammad s.a.s said, "Verily good doth not bring harm: if there be much wealth it is a blessing; and there is no harm in it, unless from stinginess and extravagance; like the spring, which causeth nothing to grow but what is good: and harm and destruction are from abuse thereof."

Punishment

Allah doth not remove anyone out of the world, but that he wisheth to pardon him; and by the diseases of his body and distress for food, He exacteth the punishment of every fault that lieth on his shoulder.

Verily the reward is as great as the misfortune; that is, the more unfortunate and calamitous one is, the greater and more perfect his reward. And verrily, when Allah loveth a people, He entangleth it in misfortune; therefore, he who is resigned to the plesure of Allah, in misfortune, for him is Allahs favor.

Purity

They will enter the Garden of Bliss who have a true, pure, and merciful heart. Religion is admonition, and it means being pure.

Relatives

The best of you, before Allah and His creation, are those who are best in their own families, and I am the best to my family.

He is the most perfect of Muslims, whose disposition is most liked by his own family. The favor of Allah doth not descend upon that family in which is one who deserts his relations. He is not a perfect performer of the duties of relationship who doeth good to his relatives as they do good

to him. He is perfect who doeth good to his relatives when they do not do good to him. Messenger of Allah.. Verily I have done a great crime; is there any act by which I may repent? He said,

"Have you a mother?" "No," said the questioner. "Have you an aunt?" asked Muhammad. He said, "Yes, I have." Muhammad s .a.s said, "Go, do good to her, and your crime will be pardoned."

The duty of a junior to a senior brother is as that of a child to its father. Giving alms to the poor hath the reward of one alms; but that given to kindred hath two rewards; one, the

reward of alms, the other, the reward of helping relations. A man's first charity should be to his own family, if poor.

Repentance

A sincere repenter of faults is like him who hath committed none.

Page 72: 7 Akhlaq Final

Reverence

Muhammad s.a.s said one day to His companions, "Reverence Allah as becommeth you." They said, "Verily, O Apostle of Allah, we do reverence Him, and praise be to Allah who hath imbued us with it." Then Muhammad s.a.s said, "It is not so; but whoever reverenceth Allah as it is suitable for him to do must guard his head from humbling itself to others, and from pride and arrogance towards Allah and Allah;s creatures; he must guard his senses from whatever is wrong, and must guard his mouth from eating forbidden things, and his heart from receiving what is prohibited; and he must keep his death in mind, and the rotting of his bones. And whoever wisheth for future rewards must abandon the ornaments of the world. Therefore, anyone attending to the aforementioned points has verily reverenced Allah as it his duty to do.

Riches

Riches are not from and abundance of wordly goods but from a contented mind. It is difficult for a man laden with riches to climb the steep path which leads to bliss. Whoever desireth the world and its riches, in a lawful manner, in order to withold himself from begging,

and for a livelihood for his family, and for being kind to his neighbor, will come to Allah with his face bright as the full moon on the fourteenth night of the lunar month.

Wealth, properly employed, is a blessing; and a man may lawfully endeavor to increase it by honest means.

tolerance

A Bedouin was standing in the mosque of the Prophet, and defiled it; when he was immediately taken hold of; and Muhammad s.a.s said, "Let him alone, and throw a skin of water upon the spot; because ye were not created but of comforters and not sent to create hardships." And they let him alone till he had done, and then Muhammad s.a.s called the Bedouin to him, and said, "This mosque is not a proper place for that, or any kind of filth; mosques are only for the mention of Allah, saying prayers, and reading the quran."

Self-Indulgence

Muhammad s.a.s asked His companions, "What are your opinions of the merits of that person, who drinks liquor, committeth adultery, and stealeth? What should his punishment be?" They said, "Allah and His Messenge know best." He said, "These are great sins, and the punishment for them very dire."

Servants

To those of your servants who please you give to eat what you eat yourself; and clothe them as yourself; but those who do not please you, part with them; and punish not Allah’s creatures.

He will not enter Paradise who behaveth ill to his slaves. The companions said, "O Apostle of Allah! have you not told us, that there will be a great many slaves and orphans amongst your disciples?" He said, "Yes;

Page 73: 7 Akhlaq Final

then be kind to them as to your own children, and give them to eat what you eat yourselves. The slaves that say their prayers are your brothers.

Zaid, r.a spoke how he served the prophet for ten years and he(Muhammad s.a.s never said 'Uff,' to me; and never said, 'Why did you do so?' and never said, 'Why did you not do so?'"

Sick

Feed the hungry and visit a sick person, and free the captive, if he be unjustly confined. Assist any person oppressed, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.

Whoever visiteth a sick person, an angel calleth from heaven, "Be happy in the world, and happy be your walking, and take you a habitation in Paradise." Whoever visiteth a sick person always entereth into and swims in a sea of mercy until he sitteth down; and when he sitteth, he is drowned therein.

When you go to visit the sick, comfort his grief and say, "You will get well and live long," because although this saying will not prevent what is predestined, it will solace his soul.

Verily Allah will say on the Day of Judgement, O children of Adam! I was sick and ye did not visit Me." And the sons of Adam will say, "O our defender, how could we visit Thee? For thou art the Lord of the Universe, and art free from sickness." And Allah will say, "O men! Such a one was sick and you did not visit him." And Allah will say, "O children of Adam, I asked you for food, and ye gave it me not?" And the children of Adam will say, "O our patron, how could we give Thee food, seeing Thou art the cherisher of the Universe, and art free from hunger and eating?" And Allah will say, "Such a one asked you for bread and you did not give it him.

Silence

Much silence and a good disposition, there are no two works better than those.

Sin

Can anyone walk through water without wetting his feet? The companions replied, "No;" Muhammads.a.s said, "Such is the condition of those of the world; they are not safe from sins."

Truth

He is not of me who, when he speaketh, speaketh falsely; who, when he promiseth, breaketh his promises; and who, when trust is reposed in him, faileth in his trust.

No man is true in the truest sense of the word but he who is true in work, in deed, and in thought. Strive always to excel in virtue and truth. It is not worthy of a speaker of truth to curse people. Appropriate to yourselves the truth. Avoid lying. Say what is true, although it may be bitter and displeasing to people.

Page 74: 7 Akhlaq Final

Understanding

It is not a sixth or a tenth of a man's devotion which is acceptable to God, but only such portions thereof as he offereth with understanding and true devotional spirit.

Verily, a man hath performed prayers, fasts, charity, pilgrimage and all other good works; but he will not be rewarded except by the proportion of his understanding.

Usury

The taker of usury and the giver of it, and the writer of its papers and the witness to it, are equal in crime.

Widows

A giver of maintenance to widows and the poor, is lke a bestower in the way of God, an utterer of prayers all the night, and a keeper of constant fast.

Wives

Admonish your wives with kindness. A Muslim must not hate his wife; and if he be displeased with one bad quality in her, then let him be

pleased with another that is good. Do you beat your own wife as you would a slave? That must you not do. I (Muaviyah b. Haidah) said, "O Apostle of God! What is my duty to my wife?" He said, "That you give her

to eat as you eat yourself, and clothe her as you clothe yourself; and do not slap her in the face nor abuse her, nor separate yourself from her in displeasure.

Give your wife good counsel; and if she has goodness in her, she will soon take it, and leave off idle talking; and do not beat your noble wife like a slave.

Muhammad s.a.s said, "Beat not your wives." Then Omar came to the Rasul (Muhammad s.a.s ) and said, "Wives have got the upper hand from hearing this."

He is the most perfect Muslim whose disposition is best; and the best of you are they who behave best to their wives.

A virtuous wife is a man's best treasure.

Women

Women are the twin halves of men. The world and all things in it are valuable; but the most valuable thing in the world is a virtuous woman. The best women are the virtuous; they are the most affectionate to infants, and the most careful of their

husband's property. When a woman performeth the five times of prayer, and fasteth the month of Ramadan, and is chaste,

and is not disobedient to her husband, then tell her to enter Paradise by whichever door she liketh. Verily a great number of women are assembled near my family, complaining of their hubands; and those

men who ill-treat their wives do not behave well. He is not of my way who teacheth a woman to stray.

Page 75: 7 Akhlaq Final

Whoever doeth good to girls, it will be a curtain to him from hell-fire. Whoever brings up two girls till they come of age, will be in the next world along with me, like my two

fingers joining each other. Whoever brings up three daughters, or three sisters, and teacheth them manners, and is affectionate to

them, till they come of age, may Allah apportion Paradise for him. Whoever hath a daughter, and doth not bury her alive or scold her, or prefer his male children to her, may

Allah bring him into Paradise. Shall I not point out to you the best of virtues? It is your doing good to your daughter when she is

returned to you having been divorced by her husband. Allah enjoins you to treat women well, for they are your mothers, daughters, aunts. The rights of women are sacred. See that women are maintained in the rights assigned to them. Do not prevent your women from coming to the mosque.

World

The love of the world is the root of all evil. This world is a prison for the Faithful, but a Paradise for unbelievers. The world is a magician greater than Harut and Marut, and you should avoid it. The world is sweet in the heart, and green to the eye; and verily Allah hath brought you, after those that

went before you: then look to your actions, and abstain from the world and its wickedness. The world is as a prison and as a famine to Muslims; and when they leave it you may say they leave

famine and a prison. Be in the world like a traveller, or like a passer on, and reckon yourself as of the dead. Cursed is this world and cursed is all that is in this world, except the rememberance of Allah and that

which aideth thereto.

And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun(disobedient to Allah - and rebellious against Allah's Command).
