This manual is furnished with each newTENNANT Model 7100. It provides necessaryoperating and preventive maintenance instruc-tions. Read this manual completely and under-stand the machine before operating or servicing it.

This machine will provide excellent service. How-ever, the best results will be obtained at minimumcosts if:

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

The following symbols are used throughout thismanual as indicated in their description:

WARNING: To warn of hazards orunsafe practices that could result insevere personal injury or death.

FOR SAFETY: To identify actions thatmust be followed for safe operation ofequipment.

This machine is designed solely for scrubbing dirtand dust in an indoor environment. Tennant doesnot recommend using this machine in any otherenvironment.

The following information signals potentiallydangerous conditions to the operator orequipment. Read this manual carefully. Knowwhen these conditions can exist. Locate all safetydevices on the machine. Then, take necessarysteps to train machine operating personnel.Report machine damage or faulty operationimmediately. Do not use the machine if it is not inproper operating condition.

WARNING: Batteries emit hydrogen gas.Explosion or fire can result. Keepsparks and open flame away. Keepcovers open when charging.

WARNING: Flammable materials cancause an explosion or fire. Do not useflammable materials in tank(s).

WARNING: Flammable materials orreactive metals can cause explosion orfire. Do not pick up.

FOR SAFETY:

5. When servicing machine:-- Avoid moving parts. Do not wear loosejackets, shirts, or sleeves whenworking on machine.

-- Block machine tires before jackingmachine up.

-- Jack machine up at designatedlocations only. Block machine up withjack stands.

-- Use hoist or jack that will support theweight of the machine.

-- Wear eye and ear protection whenusing pressurized air or water.

-- Disconnect battery connections beforeworking on machine.

-- Avoid contact with battery acid.-- Use Tennant supplied or equivalentreplacement parts.

6. When loading/unloading machineonto/off truck or trailer:-- Turn off machine.-- Use truck or trailer that will supportthe weight of the machine.

-- Use winch. Do not drive the machineonto/off the truck or trailer unless theload height is 380 mm (15 in) or lessfrom the ground.

-- Set parking brake after machine isloaded.

-- Block machine tires.-- Tie machine down to truck or trailer.

OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITY

- The operator’s responsibility is to take careof the daily maintenance and checkups ofthe machine to keep it in good workingcondition. The operator must inform theservice mechanic or supervisor when themaintenance intervals are required as statedin the MAINTENANCE section of thismanual.

- Read this manual carefully before operatingthis machine.

FOR SAFETY: Do not operate machine,unless operation manual is read andunderstood.

- Check the machine for shipping damage.Check to make sure machine is completeper shipping instructions.

OPERATION OF CONTROLS

BRAKE PEDAL

The brake pedal stops the machine.

Stop: Take your foot off the directional pedal andallow it return to the Neutral position. Step on thebrake pedal.

PARKING BRAKE PEDAL

The parking brake pedal sets the front wheelbrake.

Set: Press the brake pedal down as far aspossible, then press on the parking brake pedalwith the toe of your foot to lock the parking brakepedal in place.

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving orservicing machine, stop on levelsurface, set parking brake, turn offmachine, and remove key.

Release: Press down on the brake pedal until theparking brake releases.

DIRECTIONAL PEDAL

The directional pedal controls direction of traveland the propelling speed of the machine. Youchange the speed of the machine with thepressure of your foot; the harder you press thefaster the machine travels.

When the machine is moving forward and thedirectional pedal is reversed, the machine willcoast for a short distance before changingdirection. Use the brake pedal to stop themachine.

Forward: Press the top of the directional pedalwith the upper part of your foot.

NOTE: The machine will not travel unless theoperator is sitting in the operator’s seat.

Reverse: Press the bottom of the directionalpedal with the heel of your foot.

When the directional pedal is placed into thereverse position, the rear squeegee willautomatically raise. After a short delay, thevacuum will stop.

Neutral: Take your foot off the directional pedaland it will return to the neutral position.

When the directional pedal returns to the neutralposition, the scrub brushes will stop and after ashort delay, the scrub head will raise.

STEERING WHEEL

The steering wheel controls the machine’sdirection of travel.

Left: Turn the steering wheel to the left.

Right: Turn the steering wheel to the right.

ON-OFF KEY SWITCH

The on-off key switch controls machine powerwith a key.

FOR SAFETY: When starting machine,keep foot on brake and directional pedalin neutral.

On: Turn the key all the way clockwise andrelease it to the on position.

Off: Turn the key all the way counterclockwiseuntil it clicks into the off position.

POWER KILL SWITCH

The power kill switch halts all power to themachine.

Stop machine power: Press the power kill switch.

Restart: Turn off the machine with the on/offswitch. Turn the power kill switch to the right torelease the switch. Turn on the machine with theon/off key switch.

HOURMETER

The hourmeter records the number of hours themachine has been operated. Check the hourmeterregularly; this information is used to determinewhen to perform routine machine maintenance.

OPERATING LIGHTS SWITCH

The operating lights switch powers the headlightsand the hazard lights (option) on and off.

On: Press the top of the operating lights switch.

Off: Press the bottom of the operating lightsswitch.

POWER WAND SWITCH (OPTION)

The power wand switch (option) powers the powerwand on and off.

On: Press the top of the power wand switch.

Off: Press the bottom of the power wand switch.

HORN BUTTON

The horn button operates the horn.

Sound: Press the horn button.

SCRUB SWITCH

The scrub switch controls the scrub head, scrubbrushes, squeegee, and vacuum fan. The scrubswitch is also used to set the scrub brushpressure.

Start scrubbing: Press the scrub switch. Theindicator light will illuminate, the squeegee willlower, and the vacuum fan will start. Thescrubbing system and solution flow will start whenthe directional pedal is pressed and the machinebegins to move forward.

Stop scrubbing: Press the scrub switch. Thepressure indicator light will go out. The scrubbrushes will stop, the scrub head will raise, andthe solution flow will stop. After a short delay, therear squeegee will automatically raise. Afteranother delay, the vacuum will stop.

The brush down pressure indicators display thepressure selection. The brush pressure indicatorhas three positions. Brush pressure increases asthe indicator light moves to the right across thedisplay. Travel speed and floor conditions willaffect the scrubbing performance. Under normalconditions, the brush pressure should be set inone of the minimum settings. Set the brushpressure in one of the maximum settings to scruba heavily soiled floor.

Change brush pressure: Press and hold thescrub switch. The pressure indicator light willcycle through the three brush pressure settings.When the switch is pressed and held, the brushpressure will increase until it reaches themaximum setting. The pressure will then return tothe minimum setting. Release the scrub switchwhen the desired setting is indicated on thedisplay.

NOTE: When the machine power is turned off, thebrush pressure will remain in the last setting used.

REAR SQUEEGEE SWITCH

The rear squeegee switch controls the vacuumfan and the position of the rear squeegee. Therear squeegee can be operated separately fromthe scrub brushes for the purpose of picking-upexcess water without scrubbing, or doublescrubbing without water pick up

Lower squeegee and start the vacuum fan: Pressthe rear squeegee switch. The indicator lightabove the switch will illuminate.

Raise squeegee and stop the vacuum fan: Pressthe squeegee switch. The indicator light above theswitch will go off. There will be a slight delaybefore the vacuum shuts off.

NOTE: The rear squeegee lowers and thescrubbing vacuum starts automatically, when thescrubbing operations start.

NOTE: The rear squeegee will raise and thescrubbing vacuum will shut off after a short delaywhen the machine travels in reverse.

NOTE: The rear squeegee will raise and thescrubbing vacuum fan will shut off after a shortdelay when the scrubbing operations are shut off.

ESt SWITCH (OPTION)

The ESt (Extended Scrub) switch turns on andoff the solution recycling system. When thescrubbing functions have started, the ESt willdefault to the last setting used.

On: Press the ESt switch. The indicator lightabove the switch will illuminate.

Off: Press the ESt switch. The indicator lightabove the switch will turn off.

NOTE: The solution tank empty indicator lightwill not illuminate with machines equipped withthe ESt option.

FaSTt SWITCH (OPTION)

The FaSTt switch (option) enables the FaSTt(Foam Scrubbing Technology) system. When theFaSTt system is enabled, it is turned on and offwith the scrub switch.

On: Press the FaSTt switch. The indicator lightabove the switch will illuminate.

Off: Press the FaSTt switch. The indicator lightabove the switch will turn off.

NOTE: The FaST system will not start until thedirectional pedal is pressed.

NOTE: To use the machine for conventionalscrubbing, disable the FaSTt system by turningthe FaSTt switch off.

NOTE: Do not enable the FaSTt system withconventional cleaning detergents in the solutiontank. Drain, raise and refill the solution tank withclear cool water only before operating the FaSTtsystem. Conventional cleaning detergents/restorers may cause failure to the FaSTt solutionsystem.

SOLUTION TANK EMPTY INDICATOR

The solution tank empty indicator will illuminatewhen the solution tank is empty.

NOTE: Machines with the ESt option do nothave this feature.

RECOVERY TANK FULL INDICATOR

The recovery tank full indicator will illuminatewhen the recovery tank is full.

NOTE: When the indicator illuminates, allscrubbing functions will shut off automatically.

BATTERY DISCHARGE INDICATOR

The battery discharge indicator displays thecharge level of the batteries while the machine isoperating.

When the batteries are fully charged, all fourindicator lights are lit. As the batteries discharge,the indicator lights will go out from right to left.The batteries should be recharged when theindicator on the left flashes. When the indicatorflashes, all scrubbing functions will shut offautomatically. Drive the machine to the batterycharging area and charge the batteriesimmediately after the battery discharge indicatorbegins to flash.

NOTE: The battery discharge indicator will notstop flashing until the batteries have been fullycharged.

NOTE: Do not charge the batteries more oftenthan is necessary to prolong the life of thebatteries. Do not charge the batteries with a “topoff” charge if there is enough remaining charge inthe batteries for the next machine use. Dischargethe batteries to a 20% level, when the batterydischarge indicator segments shut off, before fullycharging the batteries. Do not allow the batteriesto become completely discharged as this will alsodamage the batteries. See BATTERIES in theMAINTENANCE section.

CIRCUIT BREAKERS

Circuit breakers are resetable electrical circuitprotection devices designed to stop the flow ofcurrent in the event of a circuit overload. Once acircuit breaker is tripped, reset it manually bypressing the reset button after the breaker hascooled down.

If the overload that caused the circuit breaker totrip is still present, the circuit breaker will continueto stop current flow until the problem is corrected.

The circuit breakers are located on the operatorconsole.

The chart below shows the circuit breakers andthe electrical components they protect.

FUSE

The fuse is a one-time protection device designedto stop the flow of current in the event of a circuitoverload.

NOTE: Always replace the fuse with a fuse of thesame amperage.

The fuse is located behind the operator console.Access the fuse by lowering the operator console.

The solution flow lever controls the amount ofsolution that flows to the floor while scrubbing.

Increase solution flow: Push the lever forward.

Decrease solution flow: Pull the lever backward.

NOTE: The machine is equipped with a solenoidvalve that automatically stops the solution flowwhen the directional pedal is in the neutralposition or when the scrub head is raised.

NOTE: When using the FaST system (option), thesolution flow lever is nonfunctional. The FaSTtsystem flow rate is pre--set.

OPERATOR SEAT

The operator seat is a fixed back style with aforward--backward adjustment.

Adjust: Pull the lever outward and slide the seatto the desired position, then release the lever.


SEAT SUPPORT ARM

The seat support arm holds the seat up to allowaccess to the batteries. The seat support armautomatically engages when the seat is lifted allthe way up. Lower the seat support by slightlyraising it while pushing the support arm inward.

SQUEEGEE WHEEL CAMS

The squeegee wheel cams adjust the rearsqueegee deflection along the entire length of therear squeegee. There are wheel cams at eitherend of the squeegee.

Increase deflection: Turn the camscounterclockwise.

Decrease deflection: Turn the cams clockwise.

SQUEEGEE LEVELING KNOB

The squeegee leveling knob adjusts the deflectionat the ends of the rear squeegee.

The squeegee leveling knob is located directlybehind the squeegee suction hose. DO NOTdisconnect the suction hose from the squeegeeframe when leveling the squeegee.

Increase end deflection: Turn the squeegeeleveling knob counterclockwise to increase thedeflection at the end of the squeegees.

Decrease end deflection: Turn the squeegeeleveling knob clockwise to decrease the deflectionat the end of the squeegees.

HOW THE MACHINE WORKS

The following machine components work togetherto effectively clean dirty floors: solution tank,scrub brushes, squeegee, vacuum fan, andrecovery tank.

Water and detergent from the solution tank flow tothe floor through a solution valve. The brushesuse the detergent and water solution to scrub thefloor clean. As the machine propels forward, thesqueegee wipes the dirty solution from the floor.The suction created by the vacuum fan thendraws the dirty solution from the squeegee intothe recovery tank.

The steering wheel controls the direction ofmachine travel. The directional pedal controls thespeed and direction of the machine. The brakepedal slows and stops the machine.

When using the ESt mode (option), the dirtysolution in the recovery tank is filtered andreturned to the solution tank to be reused forextended scrubbing.

The four available scrub head types use disk orcylindrical brushes.

Two different widths of scrub heads are availablefor each type. Both the cylindrical and disk scrubheads are available in 700 mm (28 in) and800 mm (32 in) widths.

NOTE: The amount and type of soilage play animportant role in determining the type of brushesto be used. For specific recommendations,contact your Tennant representative.

When finished scrubbing, clean the recovery tank.If using the ESt system, drain and clean thesolution tank, and clean the ESt filter.

FaSTt SCRUBBING SYSTEM (OPTION)

Unlike conventional scrubbing, the FaSTt (FoamScrubbing Technology) system operates byinjecting the FaSTt PAK concentrate agent intothe system with a small amount of water andcompressed air. This mixture creates a largevolume of expanded wet foam.

The expanded foam mixture is then dispersedonto the floor while the machine is scrubbing.When the squeegee picks up the mixture, thepatented foaming agent has collapsed and isrecovered into the recovery tank.

The FaSTt system can be used with all doublescrubbing and heavy duty scrubbing applications.

Using the FaSTt system can increaseproductivity by 30% by reducing your dump/fillcycle. It will also reduce chemical usage andstorage space. One FaSTt PAK of concentratedagent can scrub up to 1 million sq. ft.

NOTE: Do not enable the FaSTt system withconventional cleaning detergents in the solutiontank. Drain, raise and refill the solution tank withclear cool water only before operating the FaSTtsystem. Conventional cleaning detergents/restorers may cause failure to the FaSTt solutionsystem.

INSTALLING FaSTt PAK AGENT (OPTION)

NOTE: Machine must be equipped with the FaSToption.

1. Remove the perforated knock--outs from theFaSTt PAK Floor Cleaning Concentratecarton. Do not remove the bag from thecarton. Pull out the bag’s hose connector onthe bottom of the bag and remove the hosecap from the connector.

NOTE: The FaSTt PAK Floor CleaningConcentrate is specially designed for use withthe FaSTt system scrubbing application.NEVER use a substitute, machine damagewill result.

FOR SAFETY: When using machine,always follow the handling instructionson chemical container.

2. Empty the solution tank. See DRAININGAND CLEANING THE TANKS section of themanual.

NOTE: When scrubbing with the FaSTt systemoption, use clean water only. Do not add cleaningagents in the solution tank. Conventional cleaningagents/restorers may cause failure to the FaSTsolution system..

3. Place the FaSTt PAK carton in the cartonholder located next to the seat. Connect thesupply hose to the FaSTt PAK bag.

NOTE: If any dried concentrate is visible on thesupply hose connector or the on the FaSTt PAKconnector, soak and clean with warm water.

4. Make sure to connect the supply hose ontothe hose storing plug when the supply hoseis not connected to the FaSTt PAK. Thiswill prevent the FaSTt solution system fromdrying out and clogging up the hose.

5. FIRST TIME USE: The FaSTt solutionsystem is protected against freezing duringshipment. You must operate the FaSTtsystem for 10 minutes to disperse themixture of RV anti--freeze/FaST detergentbefore you achieve maximum foaming.

6. When replacing an empty FaSTt PAKcarton, allow the new FaSTt PAK detergentto gravity feed into the system for severalminutes prior to operating the FaSTtsystem. If the detergent does not flow out ofthe FaSTt PAK, simply squeeze andrelease the hose several times. If theprevious FaSTt PAK was run dry, it maytake up to 5--10 minutes of operation toremove any air pockets in the system beforeyou achieve maximum foaming.

STARTING THE MACHINE

1. You must be in the operator’s seat with thedirectional pedal in neutral, and your foot onthe brake pedal or with the parking brakeset.


2. Turn the machine power on.

3. Release the machine parking brake.

4. Drive the machine to the area to be cleaned.

SCRUBBING AND BRUSH INFORMATION

Pick up oversized debris before scrubbing. Pickup pieces of wire, string, twine, etc., which couldbecome wrapped around the scrub brush.

Plan the scrubbing in advance. Try to arrangelong runs with minimum stopping and starting. Doan entire floor or section at one time.

Drive as straight a path as possible. Avoidbumping into posts or scraping the sides of themachine. Overlap the scrub paths by severalcentimeters (a few inches).

Avoid turning the steering wheel too sharply whenthe machine is in motion. The machine is veryresponsive to the movement of the steeringwheel. Avoid sudden turns, except inemergencies.

When scrubbing dead end aisles, start at theclosed end of the aisle and scrub your way out.

Adjust the machine speed, scrub brush pressure,and solution flow as required when scrubbing.Use minimum scrub brush pressure and solutionflow required for the best results.

If you see poor scrubbing performance, stopscrubbing and refer to MACHINETROUBLESHOOTING.

For best results, use the correct brush type foryour cleaning application. The following arerecommended brush applications.

Non-scuff polypropylene scrub brush -- Thisbrush uses a softer, general purposepolypropylene bristle to lift lightly compactedsoilage without scuffing high-gloss coated floors.

Nylon scrub brush -- Recommended forscrubbing coated floors. Cleans without scuffing.

Super abrasive bristle scrub brush -- Nylonfiber impregnated with abrasive grit to removestains and soilage. Strong action on any surface,performing well on buildup, grease, or tire marks.

6. Press the directional pedal forward and scrubas required. When the machine movesforward the scrub head will lower and thescrub brushes will start. The rear squeegeewill lower and the vacuum fan will start. Theconventional scrubbing solution system willstart when the machine first begins to moveforward The optional ESt system andFaSTt system will start, if the switch is on.

NOTE: The scrub head will raise when thedirectional pedal is in the neutral position. Therear squeegee will raise when the directionalpedal is in the reverse position.

NOTE: If an excess of water in the recovery tanktriggers an overflow switch, the recovery tank fullindicator will light on the control panel. Allscrubbing functions will be canceled. To turn theindicator light off, drain the recovery tank, thenpress the scrub switch.

NOTE: A low battery and a no brush currentsensed will also cancel the scrub system.

7. Adjust brush pressure for cleaningapplication. See the SCRUB SWITCHsection of the manual.

8. Press the ESt switch (option) if extendedscrubbing is necessary.

NOTE: The recovery tank must be half full to usethe ESt option. A full solution tank will turn offthe ES pump

DOUBLE SCRUBBING

Double scrubbing is the process of making two ormore scrubbing passes over a heavily soiled area.The first scrubbing pass is made with rearsqueegee up to allow the solution to soak into thefloor.

Double scrubbing can be performed using theFaSTt SCRUBBING SYSTEM (option) orCONVENTIONAL SCRUBBING methods.

Press the scrub switch to start the normalscrubbing operations.

Press the rear squeegee switch to raise the rearsqueegee and turn off the vacuum system.

Use the maximum solution flow setting and ahigher brush pressure setting. Let the solutionremain on the floor for 5 to 15 minutes. Decreasethe solution flow, then make a second scrubbingpass with the rear and side squeegees down.

NOTE: When using the FaSTt system (option),the solution flow lever is nonfunctional. TheFaSTt system flow rate is pre--set.

STOP SCRUBBING

1. Press the scrub switch to stop the scrubbingoperations.

The scrub brushes will stop and the scrub headwill raise. The ESt detergent pump (option) willstop, and the solution flow will stop, the FaSTsystem (option) will stop. After a short delay, therear squeegee will automatically raise and thescrubbing vacuum fan will stop.

Continue driving the machine forward until therear squeegee raises, and the vacuum fan shutsoff.

2. When the vacuum fan stops, take your footoff the directional pedal.

3. Press the brake pedal to stop the machine.

DRAINING AND CLEANING THE TANKS

When you are finished scrubbing, or when therecovery tank full indicator illuminates, therecovery tank should be drained and cleaned. Thesolution tank can then be filled again for additionalscrubbing if necessary.

If you used the machine in ESt mode (option),the solution tank should also be drained andcleaned when you finish scrubbing.

1. Stop scrubbing. See the STOPSCRUBBING section of the manual.

2. Drive the machine next to an appropriatedisposal site.

3. Turn the machine power off. See the STOPTHE MACHINE section of the manual.

8. ESt mode (option): Flush out the recoverytank with clean water. Rinse the ESt filterat the bottom, and the pressure switchesnear the top of the tank.

NOTE: DO NOT use steam to clean the tanks.Excessive heat can damage the tanks andcomponents.

12. ESt mode (option): When the solutiontank has completely drained, replace thedrain hose cap on the end of the solutiontank drain hose. Slide the hose assemblyback into the machine and secure bytightening the retaining ring.

13. Check the vacuum fan inlet filter daily.Clean inlet filter with a damp cloth or hosewhen dirty. Allow filter to dry completelybefore replacing it into machine.

14. Lower the tank cover.

15. Cylindrical scrub head: Lower the scrubhead approximately 25mm (1 in). Removethe cotter pin that holds the side squeegeein place on the right hand side of themachine. Swing the squeegee away fromthe scrub head.

NOTE: The scrub head must be loweredapproximately 25 mm (1 in) to remove debristrough.

POWER WAND

The power wand uses the machine’s vacuum andsolution systems. The power wand is designed toscrub narrow or partially enclosed areas of thefloor.

The rollout battery allows the operator a quick andeasy way to remove and replace the batteriesfrom the machine.

1. Drive the machine to a flat, dry surface.

2. Turn the machine power off and set theparking brake.

4. Unplug the machine connector from thebatteries.

5. Push the battery cart to the right hand sideof the machine. Line up the battery cartlocks and the tabs on the machine. Push thebattery cart forward.

6. Lock the battery cart to the machine byclosing the battery cart locks around themachine tabs.

7. Set the battery cart floor lock by steppingdown on the left side of floor lock.

Raise battery cart rollers: With a wrench,loosen the jam nut and turn the boltclockwise. Then tighten the jam nuts.

Lower battery cart rollers: With a wrench,loosen the jam nut and turn the boltcounter--clockwise. Then tighten the jamnuts.

9. Turn the knob on the machine’s battery latchplate counter--clockwise until the latch plateis free to move.

LUBRICATION

STEERING CASTER PIVOT BEARING

The steering caster bearing is located on thebottom of the swivel plate, above the steeringgear chain sprocket . Lubricate with LubriplateEMB grease (TENNANT part no. 01433--1) every100 hours.

REAR SQUEEGEE CASTERS

The rear squeegee casters are located on theback side of the rear squeegee. Lubricate thecaster bearing on each squeegee caster withLubriplate EMB grease (TENNANT part no.01433--1) every 50 hours.

STEERING GEAR CHAIN

The steering gear chain is located directly abovethe front tire.

SCRUB HEAD LIFT BEARINGS (OPTION)

The scrub head lift bearings are located on thescrub head lift arms for the battery rollout option.Each bearing has one grease fittings. Lubricatethe bearing on each side of the lift arms withLubriplate EMB grease (TENNANT part no.01433--1) after every 100 hours of operation.

BATTERIES

The batteries are designed to hold their power forlong periods of time. The lifetime of the batteriesis limited to number of charges the batteriesreceive. To get the most life from the batteries,recharge them immediately when the batterydischarge indicator begins to blink.

After every 200 hours of use check for loosebattery connections and clean the surface of thebatteries, including terminals and cable clamps,using a strong solution of baking soda and water.Brush the solution sparingly over the battery tops.Do not allow any baking soda solution to enter thebatteries. Use a wire brush to clean the terminalposts and the cable connectors. Wipe off allcleaning solution residue. After cleaning, apply acoating of clear battery post protectant to theterminals and the cable connectors. Keep the topsof the batteries clean and dry.

Objects made of metal can potentially short circuitthe batteries. Keep all metallic objects off thebatteries. Replace any worn or damaged wires.

Check the electrolyte level in each battery cellbefore and after charging, and after every 50hours of operation. Never add acid to thebatteries. Add distilled water only. Always keepthe battery caps on, except when adding water ortaking hydrometer readings.

Using a hydrometer, measure the specific gravityto determine the charge level and condition of thebatteries. If one or more of the battery cells testlower than the other battery cells (0.050 or more),the cell is damaged, shorted, or is near failure.Completely recharge the batteries, then retestthem.

NOTE: Do not take readings immediately afteradding distilled water. If the water and acid are notthoroughly mixed, the readings may not beaccurate. Check the hydrometer readings againstthe following chart to determine the remainingbattery charge level:

CHARGING THE BATTERIES

1. Drive the machine to a flat, dry surface.

NOTE: Make sure the area is well ventilated.



3. Lift the operator seat to access the batteries.The support arm automatically engageswhen the seat is lifted all the way up.

4. Check the water level in all battery cells. Ifthe level is low, add just enough distilledwater to cover the plates. DO NOTOVERFILL. The batteries can overflowduring charging due to expansion.

NOTE: Make sure the battery caps are in placewhile charging.

FOR SAFETY: When maintaining orservicing machine, avoid contact withbattery acid.

5. Plug the charger connector into the machineconnector.

WARNING: Batteries emit hydrogengas. Explosion or fire can result. Keepsparks and open flame away. Keepcovers open when charging.

6. Plug the battery charger into the wall outlet.

NOTE: If the red “ABNORMAL CYCLE” lamplights when the TENNANT charger is plugged intoa wall outlet, the charger cannot charge thebattery and there is something wrong with thebattery.

7. The TENNANT charger will startautomatically. When the batteries are fullycharged, the TENNANT charger willautomatically turn off.

8. After the charger has turned off, unplug thecharger from the battery connector on themachine.

9. Reconnect the battery connector to themachine connector.

FOR SAFETY: When maintaining orservicing machine, avoid contact withbattery acid.

10. Check the electrolyte level in each batterycell after charging. If needed, add distilledwater to raise the electrolyte level to about12 mm (0.4 in) below the bottom of the sighttubes.

11. Lower the seat support by slightly raising itwhile pushing the support arm inward.

SELF--DIAGNOSTIC TEST

The machine is capable of running aself-diagnostic test of its electrical system andcomponents.


2. Press and hold the squeegee switch whileturning the machine power on. Continueholding the squeegee switch until the scrubpressure light #3 is lit. Release thesqueegee switch. Press and release thescrub button until only pressure light #3 ison. Press and release the squeegee switch.

To determine which errors were found, holddown the ESt or FaSTt switch and recordwhich, if any, of the brush down pressureindicators illuminate or blink. Repeat thisoperation with the squeegee switch and thescrubbing switch. Be sure to record whichpressure indicators illuminate or blink wheneach switch is held down.

Contact service personnel with the errorcode data.

5. Turn off the self--diagnostic test by turningoff the machine power.

ELECTRIC MOTORS

The carbon brushes on the vacuum fan motor(s)should be inspected after every 500 hours ofmachine operation. The carbon brushes on thescrub brush motors and propelling motor shouldbe inspected after every 1000 hours of machineoperation.

SCRUB BRUSHES AND PADS

The machine can be equipped with either disk orcylindrical scrub brushes, or cleaning pads. Checkscrub brushes daily for wire or string tangledaround the brush or brush drive hub. Also checkfor brush damage and wear.

DISK BRUSHES

The disk brushes should be replaced if a largenumber of bristles are missing or if bristle length isless than 10 mm (0.38 in).

Cleaning pads must be placed on pad drivesbefore they are ready to use. The cleaning pad isheld in place by a pad holder.

Cleaning pads need to be cleaned immediatelyafter using with soap and water. Do not wash thepads with a pressure washer. Hang pads, or liepads flat to dry.

NOTE: Be sure to replace brushes and pads insets. Otherwise one brush or pad will be moreaggressive than the other.

8. Press the spring clip together with yourthumb and index finger to remove the centerdisk.

9. Flip or replace the scrub pad, center thescrub pad on the pad driver.

10.Replace the center disk to secure the pad inplace on the driver.

14.Check to make sure the brush is securelymounted on the brush drive hub.

15.Close the side squeegee, and secure inplace with the washer and cotter key.

CYLINDRICAL BRUSHES

Check the brush taper and rotate the brushesfrom front-to-rear every 50 hours of machineoperation for maximum brush life and bestscrubbing performance.

The cylindrical brushes should be replaced if largeamounts of bristles are missing, or if theremaining bristle length is less than 10 mm(0.38 in).

NOTE: Replace worn brushes in pairs. Scrubbingwith brushes of unequal bristle length will result indiminished scrubbing performance.

NOTE: Fill the solution tank before checking oradjusting the brush pattern.

CHECKING AND ADJUSTING CYLINDRICALBRUSH PATTERN

1. Apply chalk (or another material that will noteasily blow away), to a smooth, level sectionof the floor.

2. Set the parking brake.

3. Lower the scrub head in the chalked area.Allow the machine to scrub in the sameplace for 15 to 20 seconds.

NOTE: If chalk or other material is not available,allow the brushes to spin on the floor for twominutes. A polish mark will remain on the floor.

4. Raise the scrub head and move the machineaway from the chalked area. Turn themachine power off.

5. Observe the shape of the brush patterns. Ifthe brush patterns have parallel sides, thebrushes do not need adjustment.

If one, or both of the brush patterns aretapered, the brushes need adjustment tostraighten the brush pattern.

A. To adjust brush taper, push downwardon the mounting spring and idler dooruntil the top of the door releases fromthe scrub head. Pull the bottom of thedoor outward, then pull the idler doorand idler plug off the brush.

B. While holding the flat end of the idlershaft with a wrench, loosen themounting screw on the outside of theidler door.

C. Turn the idler shaft to raise or lower theend of the brush as needed tostraighten the brush pattern. Tightenthe mounting screw.

Level the scrub head by turning the scrubhead links. Both scrub head links should beadjusted equally.

REPLACING THE CYLINDRICAL BRUSHES

1. Press the scrubbing switch. When the scrubhead is approximately 25 mm (1 in) from thefloor, turn the machine power off.

2. Set the parking brake.


3. Remove the cotter pin that holds the sidesqueegee in place. Swing the squeegeeaway from the scrub head.

4. Push downward on the mounting spring andidler door until the top of the door releasesfrom the scrub head. Pull the bottom of thedoor outward, then pull the idler door andidler plug off the brush.

5. Pull the old brush out of the scrub head.

6. Position the brush with the double row endtowards you. Guide the new brush onto thedrive hub.

7. Insert the Idler plug (on the inside of the idlerdoor), into the brush.

8. Push down on the door to catch the door inthe scrub head, then pull up on the door tolatch it into the spring.

9. Repeat for the other brush on the other sideof the scrub head.

NOTE: Each side of the scrub head is stampedwith a letter. The idler door of that side of thescrub head is stamped with the same letter. Makesure the letter on the door matches the letter onthe scrub head when replacing the doors.

SOLUTION SYSTEM

RECOVERY TANK

The recovery tank holds recovered solution. Cleanand drain the recovery tank after each use. Theoutside of the tank can be cleaned with vinylcleaner.

ESt mode: Flush out the recovery tank withclean water after each use.


Thoroughly rinse the pressure switches inside therecovery tank after each use.

The vacuum fan inlet filter is located above therecovery tank, on the inside of the tank cover.

Check the vacuum fan inlet filter daily. Removethe filter bracket to remove and clean the inletfilter. Clean inlet filter with a damp cloth or hosewhen dirty. Allow filter to dry completely beforereplacing it into machine.

SOLUTION TANK

The solution tank holds the cleaning solution.

If deposits form on the bottom of the tank, rinsethe tank and with a strong blast of warm water.

ESt option: The solution tank should be drainedand cleaned daily. Thoroughly rinse the pressureswitches inside the recovery tank after each use.

The solution tank contains one standard solutionfilter. If the filter becomes dirty, the solution flowwill be reduced. Check and clean this filterregularly.

FaSTt SUPPLY HOSE CONNECTOR

The FaSTt supply hose connector is locatedbelow the FaSTt PAK holder. Soak theconnector in warm water if detergent buildup isvisible. When a FaSTt PAK carton is notinstalled, store the supply hose connector on thestoring plug to prevent the hose from clogging.

FaSTt SYSTEM FILTER SCREEN

The FaSTt system filter screen is located underthe machine. It filters the water from the solutiontank as it flows into the FaSTt system.

Remove the filter screen bowl and clean the filterscreen after every 50 hours of FaSTt scrubbing.Empty the solution tank before removing the filter.

FaSTt SYSTEM AIR PUMP FILTER

The FaSTt system air pump filter is locatedunder the machine on the air pump.

Remove and clean out the air filter withcompressed air after every 200 hours of FaSTscrubbing.

REAR SQUEEGEE ASSEMBLY

The squeegee assembly channels water into thevacuum fan suction. The front blade channels thewater, and the rear blade wipes the floor.

Check the squeegee blades for damage and weardaily. Rotate or replace either of the squeegeeblades if the leading edge is torn or worn half-waythrough the thickness of the blade.

The squeegee can be adjusted for leveling anddeflection. The deflection and leveling of thesqueegee blades should be checked daily, orwhen scrubbing a different type of floor.

The squeegee assembly can be removed fromthe squeegee pivot to prevent damage duringtransport of the machine.

REMOVING THE REAR SQUEEGEEASSEMBLY

1. Lower the squeegee to approximately25 mm (1 in) from the floor.


3. Remove the squeegee suction hose fromthe squeegee.

4. Remove both squeegee mounting knobs.

1. Make sure the squeegee pivot is lowered.

2. Place the squeegee under the squeegeepivot.

3. Push the squeegee frame onto thesqueegee pivot.

5. Push the squeegee suction hose onto thesqueegee fitting.

LEVELING THE REAR SQUEEGEE

Leveling of the squeegee assures even contactthe length of the squeegee blade with the surfacebeing scrubbed. Make sure this adjustment isdone on an even, level floor.


2. Lower the squeegee.

3. Drive the machine forward a few feet, thenset the parking brake.

4. Look at the deflection of the squeegee overthe full length of the squeegee blade.

5. If the deflection is not the same over the fulllength of the blade, turn the squeegeeleveling knob to make adjustments.

The squeegee leveling knob is locateddirectly behind the squeegee suction hose.DO NOT disconnect the suction hose fromthe squeegee frame when levelingsqueegee.

Turn the squeegee leveling knobcounter-clockwise to increase the deflectionat the ends of the squeegee.

Turn the squeegee leveling knob clockwiseto decrease the deflection at the ends of thesqueegee blade.

6. Drive the machine forward with thesqueegee down to check the squeegeeblade deflection.

7. Readjust the squeegee blade deflection ifnecessary.

ADJUSTING REAR SQUEEGEE BLADEDEFLECTION

Deflection is the amount of curl the squeegeeblade has when the machine moves forward whilethe squeegee lowered to the floor. The bestdeflection is when the squeegee wipes the floorjust dry with a minimum amount of deflection.


2. Lower the squeegee.

3. Drive the machine forward, and look at thedeflection of the squeegee blade. Thecorrect amount of deflection is 12 mm(0.50 in) for scrubbing smooth floors and15 mm (0.62 in) for rough floors.


5. To adjust the amount of deflection, turn thesqueegee deflection cams clockwise todecrease the blade deflection.

Turn the squeegee deflection camscounter--clockwise to increase bladedeflection.

6. Drive the machine forward again to checkthe squeegee blade deflection.

7. Readjust the squeegee blade deflection ifnecessary.

ADJUSTING THE SQUEEGEE GUIDE ROLLER

The squeegee guide rollers are located on bothends of the rear squeegee. The rollers guide thesqueegee blade end along a wall. Loosen the nutat the top of the guide roller and move the roller inor out to adjust how close the end of thesqueegee blade is to the wall. The squeegeeblade end should be further away from the wallwhen the floor curves up into the wall.

REAR SQUEEGEE BLADES

The rear squeegee has two squeegee blades, thefront and rear. Each blade has four wiping edges.To use them all, start with one wiping edge. Touse the next wiping edge, rotate the bladeend-for-end. To use the next wiping edge, rotatethe top edges down, bottom edges up. To use thelast edge, rotate the blade end-for-end. Rotatesqueegee blades when they become wornhalf--way through the thickness of the blade.

Replace damaged squeegee blades.

REPLACING OR ROTATING THE REARSQUEEGEE BLADE

1. Make sure the squeegee is raised off thefloor.



3. Loosen the two retainer knobs, one at eachend of the squeegee.

5. Loosen the two remaining knobs on top ofthe squeegee assembly.

6. Pull the retainer plate back and pull out thefront squeegee blade of the squeegeeframe.

7. Insert the rotated or new squeegee blade inthe squeegee frame, lining up the slots inthe blade with the tabs on the retainer plate.

8. Push the retainer plate forward. Tighten thetwo outside knobs on top of the squeegeeassembly.

9. Insert the rear squeegee blade and retainer.Tighten the two rear blade retainer knobsuntil the ends of the front and rear squeegeeblades touch. Do not over--tighten.

10. Install the squeegee assembly on thesqueegee pivot. See REPLACING THESQUEEGEE ASSEMBLY.

11. Adjust the squeegee blade leveling anddeflection as stated in LEVELING THEREAR SQUEEGEE and ADJUSTING REARSQUEEGEE BLADE DEFLECTION.

1. Raise the scrub head.



3. Remove the cotter pin, clevis pin, deflectorand the retainer bracket from the sidesqueegee and slide the squeegee out of theframe.

4. Slide a new squeegee blade into the frame.

5. Replace the retainer bracket, deflector,clevis pin, and cotter pin.

6. Repeat for the side squeegee on the otherside of the scrub head.

BELTS AND CHAINS

BRUSH DRIVE BELTS

The two brush drive belts are located on thecylindrical brush scrub head. The belts drive thecylindrical brushes. Proper belt tension is a 3 mm(0.1 in) deflection from a force of 1.1 to 1.2 kg (2.5to 2.7 lb) at the belt midpoint.

Check and adjust the belt tension every 100 hoursof operation.

STATIC DRAG CHAIN

The static drag chain prevents the buildup ofstatic electricity in the machine. The chain isattached to the machine frame.

Make sure the chain is always touching the floor.

STEERING GEAR CHAIN

The steering gear chain is located directly abovethe front tire.

The steering gear chain tension should bechecked after the first 50 hours of operation andevery 500 hours thereafter. The proper deflectionshould be 3 to 6 mm (0.1 to 0.3 in) between thesteering sprocket and the idler sprocket when thesteering wheel is turned as far as it will go ineither direction.

VACUUM FAN SEAL

The vacuum fan seal is located on top of thevacuum fan under the tank cover.

Check the seal for damage and wear after every100 hours of operation.

The solution tank seal is located around theopening above the solution tank, under the tankcover.


RECOVERY TANK SEAL

The recovery tank seal is located around the filter,under the tank cover.

BRAKES AND TIRES

BRAKES

The mechanical brake is located on the frontwheel. The brake is operated by the brake pedal.

Check the brake adjustment after every 200 hoursof operation. If the brake does not respond well topressure on the brake pedal, you may need toadjust the brake.

BRAKE ADJUSTMENT:

Remove the cotter key from the brake extensionarm, and position the extension arm in the nextadjustment hole in the brake link.

Insert the cotter key back into the brake extensionarm, and check the brake for proper operation.

TIRES

The machine has three tires: one in front, andtwo in the rear of the machine. All three tires aresolid rubber. Check the tires for damage and wearafter every 100 hours of operation.

PUSHING, TOWING, AND TRANSPORTINGTHE MACHINE

PUSHING OR TOWING THE MACHINE

If the machine becomes disabled, it can bepushed from the front or rear, but only tow it fromthe front.

Only push or tow the machine for a very shortdistance and do not exceed 3.2 kp/h (2 mph). It isNOT intended to be pushed or towed for a longdistance or at a high speed.

ATTENTION! Do not push or towmachine for a long distance or damagemay occur to the propelling system.

TRANSPORTING THE MACHINE

1. Position the front of the machine at theloading edge of the truck or trailer.

FOR SAFETY: Use a truck or trailer thatwill support the weight of the machine.

NOTE: Empty the recovery and solution tanksbefore transporting the machine.

2. If the loading surface is not horizontal or ishigher than 380 mm (15 in) from the ground,use a winch to load machine.

If the loading surface is horizontal AND is380 mm (15 in) or less from the ground, themachine may be driven onto the truck ortrailer.

3. To winch the machine onto the truck ortrailer, attach the winching chains to the fronttie down locations. The front tie-downlocations are on the front sides of themachine. Make sure the machine iscentered.

FOR SAFETY: When loading machineonto truck or trailer, use winch. Do notdrive the machine onto the truck ortrailer unless the loading surface ishorizontal AND is 380 mm (15 in) or lessfrom the ground.

4. Position the machine onto the truck or traileras far as possible. If the machine starts toveer off the centerline of the truck or trailer,stop and turn the steering wheel to centerthe machine.

5. Set the parking brake, lower the scrub headand block the machine tires. Tie down themachine to the truck or trailer beforetransporting.

The front tie-down locations are on the frontjack supports.

The rear tie-down locations are on the rearcorners of the machine.

6. If the loading surface is not horizontal or ishigher than 380 mm (15 in) from the ground,use a winch to unload machine.

If the loading surface is horizontal AND is380 mm (15 in) or less from the ground, themachine may be driven off the truck ortrailer.

MACHINE JACKING

Empty the recovery and solution tanks beforejacking the machine. You can jack up the machinefor service at the designated locations. Use ahoist or jack that will support the weight of themachine. Always stop the machine on a flat, levelsurface and block the tires before jacking up themachine.

The front jacking locations are located on bothsides of the machine, behind the sweepingassembly.

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving orservicing machine, stop on levelsurface, set parking brake.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine,use a hoist or jack that will support theweight of the machine.

Jack up the rear of the machine from underneaththe rear corners. Use a piece of wood betweenthe jack and the frame to distribute the machineweight load.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine,block machine tires before jackingmachine up.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine,jack machine up at designated locationsonly. Block machine up with jackstands.

STORAGE INFORMATION

The following steps should be taken when storingthe machine for extended periods of time.

1. Drain and clean the solution and recoverytanks.

ESt machines: Run clean water throughthe solution system and the ESt solutionpump.

2. Park the machine in a cool, dry area.

3. Remove the batteries, or charge them everythree months.

FREEZE PROTECTION

1. Be sure the solution tank is empty.

2. Pour 3.8 L (1 gal) of pre-mixedautomotive-type windshield washer solutioninto the solution tank.


4. Start the solution flow. Start the power wandsolution system and ESt system tocirculate the washer solution through thecomponents.

5. The washer solution does not need to bedrained from the solution tank.
