that enables service providers to deliver triple play services.
The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU is a gigabit passive optical network (GPON) solution with a 2.5 Gb/s downstream and 1.2 Gb/s upstream line rate. This system is ideal for cost-effectively delivering high bandwidth, IP-converged triple play services (voice, video, and data) to residential and business customers. In addition to the product’s unmatched density and high performance, the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU is standards-compliant and part of a comprehensive end-to-end triple play solution.
The system consists of an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) in the Central Office (CO) or in a remote cabinet, and various Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) located at the subscriber premises. As a comprehensive
integrated solution, the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU has the flexibility to deliver RF video, IPTV, data, legacy and next-generation voice, all on a single platform. It offers the added flexibility to deliver RF video using a separate wavelength over the same fiber. The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU is managed by the Alcatel-Lucent 5520 Access Management System (AMS) — the management platform for all Alcatel-Lucent access products. The system applies Alcatel-Lucent ISAM technology for intelligent IP-based access. This technology has been rapidly adopted worldwide because it is designed for wire-speed performance with cost-effective Ethernet switching and enhanced L2/L3 functions.

Key Elements
Optical Line Terminal (OLT)The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 Optical Line Terminal (OLT) performs optical aggre-gation and provides cost-effective interfaces to edge IP network switches/routers. It is a chassis-based system with a highly scalable backplane architecture. The OLT has 14 interface slots for GPON line termination cards and two slots for network termination cards and one slot for an alarm card. Services are delivered via GPON interfaces using a single fiber with two wave-lengths (receive and transmit) multi-plexed together. An optional third wavelength can be multiplexed for downstream RF video over the same
fiber. GPON line termination cards are available with 4 ports each, providing a maximum of 56 PON interfaces per shelf. The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 OLT can terminate up to 3,584 subscribers using a 1:64 split when the system is equipped with 56 GPON terminations. The GPON interfaces comply with Full Service Access Network (FSAN) recommendations and International Telecommunications Union Telecom (ITU-T) sector standards for optics, line rates, data transfer protocol and management interface.
Subscriber traffic aggregation and uplink is done using the network termination (NT) cards. There are two NT cards with different switch fabrics; a 250 Gb/s Ethernet switch fabric with two Gigabit Ethernet (1 GigE) and two 10 GigE uplinks or a 48 Gb/s Ethernet switch fabric with four Gigabit Ethernet (1 GigE) and a single 10 GigE uplink. Two NT cards can be equipped for redundancy and load sharing, enabling 500 Gb/s switching capacity using the 250 Gb/s NT or up to 96 Gb/s when using the 48 Gb/s NT. The 250 Gb/s switch fabric allows non-blocking capability between the NT card and the line termination cards.
Optical Network Terminals (ONTs)The Alcatel-Lucent 7342 OLT is comple-mented with a wide range of ONTs in numerous form factors and configu-rations to meet a variety of subscriber applications. All ONTs are designed to deliver triple play services and can be used concurrently on a GPON network. In addition, the business ONTs include E1 emulation interfaces for applications suchasTDMprivatelines,2G/3Gwirelessbackhaul etc. Service providers can mix ONT models on a single PON to meet the service demands of both residential and business subscribers.
