Welcoming the excluded

The Canaanite woman helps Jesus discover the will of the Father. Matthew 15: 21-28

"O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done as you wish." The reason Jesus responded was that

he understood that the Father wanted him to grant the woman’s request. The meeting with the

Canaanite woman freed him from the racial prison and opened him to the whole of humanity.

This means that Jesus discovered the will of the Father by listening to the reactions of people.

This pagan woman’s attitude opened new horizons for Jesus and helped him take an important

step in the fulfilment of the Father’s plan. This episode helps us to perceive a little of the mystery

that surrounded the person of Jesus, the manner in which he was in communion with the Father

and how he discovered the will of the Father in the events of life.

Lord Jesus, we thank for the word that has enabled us to understand better the will of the Father.

May your Spirit enlighten our actions and grant us the strength to practice that which your Word has

revealed to us. May we, like Mary, your mother, not only

listen to but also practise the Word. You who live and

reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever

and ever. Amen.

Acoger a los excluidos

La mujer cananea ayuda a Jesús a descubrir

la voluntad del Padre. Mateo 15, 21-28

"Mujer, grande es tu fe, que sea como has pedido".

Si Jesús respondió es porque comprendió que el Padre

quería que Él acogiese la petición de la mujer.

El encuentro con la mujer cananea le hace salir de la

prisión de su raza y abrirse a toda la humanidad.

Esto significa que Jesús descubría la voluntad del Padre

oyendo las reacciones de las personas. La conducta de

aquella mujer pagana abre un nuevo horizonte en la

vida de Jesús y lo ayudó a dar un paso importante en el

cumplimiento del proyecto del Padre. Este episodio nos ayuda a percibir algo del misterio que

rodeaba la persona de Jesús, cómo estaba en comunión con su Padre y cómo descubría la

voluntad de Padre en los acontecimientos de la vida.

Señor Jesús, te damos gracias por tu Palabra que nos ha hecho ver mejor la voluntad del Padre.

Haz que tu Espíritu ilumine nuestras acciones y nos comunique la fuerza para seguir lo que Tu

Palabra nos ha hecho ver. Haz que nosotros como María, tu Madre, podamos no sólo escuchar, sino

también poner en práctica la Palabra. Tú que vives y reinas con el Padre en la unidad del Espíritu

Santo por todos los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

Catholic Home Missions Appeal Strengthening the Church at Home The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this Appeal works to support mission dioceses here at home is by supporting seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, which educate each seminarian at a cost of $35,000–$40,000 per year. Your support is needed for these young men, so that they can return to serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s Appeal. La próxima semana se realizará el Llamado para las Misiones Católicas. Una de las maneras en las que obra el Llamado para apoyar a las diócesis misioneras aquí en casa es financiando la formación de seminaristas en las diócesis pobres.
