The Town of Evans Police Department will be conducting a

Citizen Police Academy Thursday, September 12, 2013 through

Thursday, November 14, 2013

The Citizen Police Academy has been designed as a way for the public to learn about police department operations and the duties of Evans Police Department personnel. The academy will meet each week at 6:30 p.m., and classes will be approximately three hours. Some of the topics covered will include patrol functions, detective bureau operations, crime scene investigation, accident investigation, domestic violence, court procedures, police and fire dispatch operations, sex offenders, and marine unit operations. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have never been arrested, be of good moral character, and pass a background investigation.

THE BOOMERS TO FINISH ANGOLA GAZEBO CONCERT SERIES

The final concert of the 31st year of Wednesday eve-ning concerts at the Gazebo in Angola’s Centennial Park will open at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28th. The well known Buffalo area four piece group called the Boomers, under the direction of Judd Sunshine of Sunshine Produc-tions, will present the concert. They promise a terrific mix of ballads to blues from the 50’s and up. The evening is sponsored by the Angola Park & Gazebo Committee as a “thank you” to the community and support of the concert series over the past 31 years. Refreshments are sold at the park by the Brant Evans Girl Scouts. The ice cream man continues to make a stop at the park each week. Handicapped parking is available off Center and High Streets for early arrivals. The rain location for all of the concerts will continue to the nearby New Angola Theater on North Main Street. Bring a folding chair or a blanket and enjoy the evening.

She was the wife of the late Edwin Cullen; mother of Francis (late Denise) Cullen, Mary (Timothy) Steenberg and the late Patricia Balber and Catherine (Joseph) Fuhrmann; sister of Irene Hillyer and the late Nicho-las Fizer, Mary Kusmierc-zyk, Anna Petkovsky and Helen Kay; also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the loving husband of Yvette (nee Ohar) Mason; dear-est father of Shawn Lyon, Hannah and Jane Mason; son of Ronald and Lynda Mason; brother of Randy (Lynn) Mason and Carol (Frank) Zeffiro. DORIS GROGAN RECEIVES PLAQUE Doris L. Grogan served in the Army Air Core and was stationed in Marchfield, California from 1943-1945 as an airplane mechanic. She was the only women to serve as a mechanic and was almost killed when pulling out the blocks from the planes wheels she was being sucked into the engine. Luckily, there were people there to pull her back. Doris worked on the B-29 Bombers and at one time the follow-me jeep broke down and she put a sign on her bike to help guide in the B-29 Bomber.
