Dear Parents and Care Givers, That me of year is fast approaching, where the school provides formal, wrien reports to all students from Year K-6. From Tuesday 27 June, parents/care givers will be asked to collect their child’s report from their classroom teacher. Reports will not be sent home with children without a wrien request from the parent/care giver. Leſtover reports will not be mailed home, rather they will need to be collected from the school aſter the holiday period. I ask all parents to take the me to read and understand their child’s report as it contains valuable informaon about their achievement and progress in first semester. Vital explanatory notes to assist you in making sense of your child’s report are provided on the reverse of the report’s cover page and in an accompanying leer from me. As our expectaon of students at each year of schooling is increased under the West Australian Curriculum, it is possible that your child’s “grades” may appear to have declined in comparison to previous years. This does not necessarily mean they have not progressed; rather it is most likely that our expectaons of them have liſted. It is important at this stage to clarify that “A” and “B” grades are only issued when a student is consistently performing at a level that exceeds the expected standard for their year level - these grades are awarded far less than when you and I went to school. The informaon contained in this report is a valid and reliable summary of your child’s achievement, atude, behaviour and effort throughout the first two terms of 2017. I would strongly recommend that if you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s report that you make an appointment to discuss your concerns with the classroom teacher. If you are sll concerned aſter this, please feel free to discuss these concerns with me. Informaon on how your child performed in the subjects studied compared to that of other children at Gosnells Primary School is available from the office upon request. The School Posion Report shows you the number of students in each of the achievement levels at our school and will be included in the report package when requested before Friday, 23 June. It is hard to believe the end of semester one is just around the corner, it is even harder to comprehend that this signals four years that I have been at Gosnells Primary School! With everyone feeling so overwhelmed and exhausted I thought I would take a look back at exactly why we are feeling this way! Dear Parents and Care Givers,

That time of year is fast approaching, where the school provides formal, written reports to all students from Year K-6. From Tuesday 27 June, parents/care givers will be asked to collect their child’s report from their classroom teacher. Reports will not be sent home with children without a written request from the parent/care giver. Leftover reports will not be mailed home, rather they will need to be collected from the school after the holiday period.

I ask all parents to take the time to read and understand their child’s report as it contains valuable information about their achievement and progress in first semester. Vital explanatory notes to assist you in making sense of your child’s report are provided on the reverse of the report’s cover page and in an accompanying letter from me.

As our expectation of students at each year of schooling is increased under the West Australian Curriculum, it is possible that your child’s “grades” may appear to have declined in comparison to previous years. This does not necessarily mean they have not progressed; rather it is most likely that our expectations of them have lifted. It is important at this stage to clarify that “A” and “B” grades are only issued when a student is consistently performing at a level that exceeds the expected standard for their year level - these grades are awarded far less than when you and I went to school.

The information contained in this report is a valid and reliable summary of your child’s achievement, attitude, behaviour and effort throughout the first two terms of 2017. I would strongly recommend that if you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s report that you make an appointment to discuss your concerns with the classroom teacher. If you are still concerned after this, please feel free to discuss these concerns with me.

Information on how your child performed in the subjects studied compared to that of other children at Gosnells Primary School is available from the office upon request. The School Position Report shows you the number of students in each of the achievement levels at our school and will be included in the report package when requested before Friday, 23 June.

It is hard to believe the end of semester one is just around the corner, it is even harder to comprehend that this signals four years that I have been at Gosnells Primary School! LOST PROPERTY Our lost property bin is overflowing. Any items of clothing not collected by the end of term will be donated to charity. Please ensure your child’s clothing is clearly labelled so items can be returned to them.

P&C NEWS The Disney Pixar Quiz Night is on THIS FRIDAY! This is going to be a fun night out for all your family and friends. There’s just 3 tables remaining, so if you were thinking about coming but have not yet booked, see Chris at the Uniform Shop on Thursday morning. Remember, you can also pre-order hot or cold platters at the Uniform Shop Thursday, 22 June only. There will be some snacks and drinks available for sale on the night, as well as raffles, so be sure to bring some money with you. Doors open at 5:45pm and the quiz starts at 6:30pm sharp. For full details see the promotion below.

We’re also excited about the BBQ Raffle which will be drawn at the Quiz night. If you haven’t already received the raffle ticket sheet we sent home, check your child’s bag or speak with their teacher. This prize (image below) is valued at more than $600! Tickets are $5 each and are available for the whole community to purchase. We can’t wait to see who goes home with this amazing prize, thanks to Coles, Bunnings and Woolworths.

As part of our commitment to improving the lives of others, this year the P&C are asking for donations for our WINTER APPEAL. This initiative will assist those in need during the colder months, and we are asking for donations of blankets, jackets and socks suitable for both adults and children. All items, either new or in good second-hand condition, will be greatly appreciated (although perhaps not second-hand socks). Donations can be taken to the Child and Parent Centre. We thank you in advance for your generosity.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! We are also asking for donations of second-hand books to sell as a fundraiser at the upcoming Twilight Market. Books can be taken to the Uniform Shop. And if you’re keen to host a stall at the Twilight Markets in Term 4, contact Candice through our Facebook page.

Finally, a reminder to start collecting 5c pieces for next term’s 5c challenge! This was a great fundraiser last year, with the kids enjoying the competition between classrooms. Students from the class who collects the most money will receive a tasty treat from the canteen. The challenge commences in week one of next term.

The Waste Wise team are excited to announce that the school has received a $400

grant from Rivers Regional Council which will enable us to implement a Community

Recycling Station. As well as the pre-existing battery recycling program, you will be

able to bring a range of products from home including soft plastics, printer cartridges,

oral care products (toothpaste tubes, brushes and packaging), aluminium cans and

newspaper. The recycling station will be in the Junior Primary area outside Room 13

from week 1 next term. More details will be sent home soon.

We have many other initiatives planned for the rest of the

year, including two worm farms, and are looking for more

people to help us. If you loathe waste as much as we do and would like to help, send an

email to [email protected] or join us at our next meeting in the school’s library on

Tuesday, 27 June at 1pm.
