Learning Goal: I will be able to explain how the water cycle and atmospheric conditions relate to the weather patterns on Earth.

Due Today: 1) Water cycle and humidity notes; Questions # 1,2 & 6 page A63.

Evening Assignment: Study for Weather Patterns Quiz and Atmosphere Re-Test.

Do Now

On a slip of paper write your name, date, and answer the following question:

List in order the steps involved in cloud formation.

When done, update your weather conditions chart.

Page 3: 9 /26/13 23rd Day of School

How did you do?

Steps in cloud formation:

1. Sun heats water (liquid) and causes it to evaporate into water vapor (gas)

2. Warm moist air rises (gas), expands, and cools as it goes higher in altitude.

3. Water vapor (gas) in the air condenses into tiny droplets (liquid) or ice crystals (solid).

4. These droplets or ice crystals condense around tiny solid particles such as dust, smoke, and salt.

McDougall Textbook p. A60

How wind forms

McDougall Text p. A48

Air moves from high pressure toward low pressure

Temperature differences create…

Air pressure differences which produce wind.

Summarizing

Read the pages about the water cycle and precipitation. Summarize each section by writing at least 4 key points in bullet format in your own words (don’t copy word-for-word from textbook.) Pages A 56-59 Section 2.3 Most clouds form as air rises and cools.• Temperature affects water in the air.• Water in the Air• Humiditiy (only summarize the 1st

paragragh)• Water vapor condenses and forms

clouds.

Description Wheel Notes

In your science notebook draw a description wheel and add important concepts about the following:

1. Air Pressure

2. Wind Patterns

3. Water Cycle

We will do this together as a class!
