Reflection for the 3rd Sunday of Easter

On the road to Emmaus, the disciples

recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread.

But then he immediately vanished from their

sight. Why? We might take a lesson in prayer

from this incident: sometimes when we pray,

Our Lord remains hidden; He "disappears"

and withholds consolations because He wants

us to learn to love Him and remain faithful

even during periods of dryness. But why

withdraw from the disciples once they

recognized Him? Perhaps because Jesus

wanted to remind them of the gift of the

Eucharist, that consuming the Eucharist

brings about a far more intimate union with

Him than even standing by His side. We

would do well to remember this ourselves.

The Eucharist is the greatest gift Christ could

have given us. Let us never abuse it or take it

for granted. During this prolonged period

away from the Mass, consider making

frequent acts of spiritual communion in

anticipation of the time when we can once

again receive Our Eucharistic Lord.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

To be prayed when you are unable to receive Our

Lord in the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in

the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my

soul.

Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my

heart.

I embrace You as if You were

already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated

from You.

Amen.

Reflexión para el 3º domingo de Pascua

En el camino a Emaús, los discípulos

reconocieron a Jesús al partir el pan. Pero

luego desapareció de inmediato de su vista.

¿Por qué? Podríamos tomar una lección de

oración de este incidente: a veces, cuando

oramos, nuestro Señor permanece oculto; Él

"desaparece" y retiene consuelos porque

quiere que aprendamos a amarlo y que

seamos fieles incluso durante los períodos de

sequedad. Pero, ¿por qué retirarse de los

discípulos una vez que lo reconocieron?

Quizás porque Jesús quería recordarles el don

de la Eucaristía, que consumir la Eucaristía

produce una unión mucho más íntima con Él

que incluso estar a Su lado. Haríamos bien en

recordar esto nosotros mismos. La Eucaristía

es el mayor regalo que Cristo podría habernos

dado. Nunca lo maltratemos ni lo demos por

sentado. Durante este período prolongado sin

la Santa Misa, considere realizar actos

frecuentes de comunión espiritual en

anticipación del tiempo en que una vez más

podamos recibir a Nuestro Señor

Sacramentado.

ACTO DE COMUNIÓN ESPIRITUAL

Ser rezado cuando no puedes recibir a nuestro

Señor en el sacramento de la Sagrada Eucaristía.

Mi Jesús

Creo que estás presente en el Santísimo

Sacramento.

Te amo sobre todas las cosas

y deseo recibirte en mi alma.

Como en este momento no puedo

recibirte sacramentalmente,

entra al menos espiritualmente en mi

corazón.

Te abrazo como si ya estuvieras allí

y unirme totalmente a ti.

Nunca permitas que me separe de ti.

Amén.
