Members All,How is it already September?! I had the privilege of representing our Lodge at the Grand Lodge Conventionin San Antonio, TX. While there I watched our Grand Exalted Ruler Michael Luhr of the Petersburg, AK Lodge #1615 as well as our new District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Mike King from the Hudson/Concord Lodge get installed. Best of luck to Mike this year and a big thank you to our outgoing District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Mark Ellis for a great year! We are having not just a Member Appreciation Day but an entire weekend! See the info in this bulletin and on the white board by the ramp. Thank you, MJ for always doing a phenomenaljob on the white board!

September marks our Lodge’s 89th Birthday! We are in the early stages of planning a 90th Birthday Bash for next year so if you are interested in helping out, please let me know.

I hope to see all of you at either or all 3 of our Member Appreciation events on the 3rd weekend of the month!

I hope everyone had a great Summer! We have some great events coming up in the Fall, check out the board in the lounge to see what is coming up next.Thank you to all members who have paid their dues! We currently have 79 members who are not up to date. We are sending statements out monthly, please send your payment in right away so you can enjoy the privileges of being a member!Congratulations to our newest members! In June we initiated: Kim Biguisiak, Meaghan Leary, Roger Baker, David Clements, Melissa Williams, Kimberly Flanigan, William Kivlin, Donna Kivlin, Candace McDonnell & Martin McDonnell.When we received applications for prospective members, after the name has been read at a meeting, we will post the names on the bulletin board in the lounge prior to the vote as well as publish them in the next bulletin. We encourage all members to attend our business meetings.

A motion was made by Steve Hardy at the Lodge meeting on August 28, 2018

I would like t o amend the motion for the Grand Lodge Building permit from the original request of

$225,000.00 to $255,00.00 in which we encountered electric code needed upgrades, extra’s from

rotted boards on the roof deck, and material costs going up from last year quotes.

This will be posted in September bulletin and voted on at the

1st meeting in Septem ber (September 11, 2018)

___________________BACK IN THE DAY

Elks functions such as Country Western Night, which was coordinated by Ed Brooks and Ray Laskowski,

Installation of Officers and Initiations the meals were prepared by the “ The Fly By Nighters”. This tight

knit group consisted of Ralph Cantino, John Frigiletti, Mike Qutrochi, John Hornik and Vinnie Buschemi.

It was like World War III back there in the kitchen. In the old building down the street the kitchen was

about one quarter of the size of the kitchen now. Someone would always get teed off walk out and go

downstairs to have a drink. Someone would go downstairs apologize and tell him to back upstairs and

get back to work. The work went on like nothing happened. The meals were always great food and

came out on time. You did not t ell them what you wanted for food they would cook what they wanted

and you did not know until it was time to eat was the meal was going to be. You could not volunteer to

work in the kitchen you had to be “asked”. Mary’s Catering took over the food prepar ation at some

point, I do not know the year until her passing. As you know now we use Flo’s Cate ring.

Although the construction on the roof and rear of the building may look done, there is still a lot of debris, etc on the ground. For the safety of our Members (and your tires!) there is no parking behind the building.
