Church-wide Outreach Visitation Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. Come and make a church growth visit. Share Jesus with someone and invite them to church. From My Heart September and October is a time of change in Baptist church life. It used to be everything changed in October. Now we have three “new year” times in our church. First there is the new Sunday School year, September 1. Though most of our Sunday School workers are going to be the same, there will be a few new faces in classrooms on September 6. The big change in Sunday School is our long time Sunday School Director, Kevin Etheridge, is stepping out of that role. We thank him for his years of leadership. Amy Haggard is our new Sunday School Director. We look forward to our Sunday School reaching more people for relevant, life enriching Bible study. Even if you have never been in Sunday School, join us at 8:45 a.m. September 6 to welcome Amy to her new role. Pray for her as she learns the ropes. Cooperate with her as she develops strategies and plans to help us build our Sunday School ministry. Another change this year in Sunday School is that sixth graders will now be under the direction of our youth ministries. Since the school system has mostly gone to the middle school concept, this seemed like a logical change. The second new year for our church is October 1. That is when our administrative committees organize for the next year. Committees will have, at least, one new member. Please note the initial committee meeting schedule in another place in this Network. The third new year in our church is January 1. That is our financial new year. Our Finance Committee will begin this month to formulate the 2016 budget. A budget shows where our hearts are. While I wish it were not true, churches must have money to operate. God, in Scripture, devised the plan of tithes and offerings to support the work of the church. We never read of fundraisers, selling things, depending on corporations, etc. While we are financially healthy, we give not to operate the church, but to be faithful to God. As we move into this time of new years, my prayer is that we can look back at this time in 2016 and hear the Father say to our church as a whole and to us as individuals, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21). GOTM Week of Prayer September 6-12

When was the last time you read a book, or a substantial magazine article? Do your daily reading habits center around tweets, Facebook updates, or the directions on your instant oatmeal packet? If you’re one of countless people who don’t make a habit of reading regularly, you might be missing out: reading has a significant number of benefits. Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy. The more knowledge you have, the better-equipped you are to tackle any challenge you’ll ever face. Additionally, here’s a bit of food for thought: should you ever find yourself in dire circumstances, remember that although you might lose everything else—your job, your possessions, your money, even your health—knowledge can never be taken from you. Visit your church library for a good book to read.

Project: JOY

From the Library

I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

After seeing the amount of items that were given for our school supply drive, we truly have a church of blessed believers! Because of the amount of supplies, we were able to donate 26 book bags complete with all needed school supplies to West Elementary School! Thank you for stepping up to the plate and giving to those who were in need.

Throughout the month of August, Children in Action, Mission Friends, and Project: JOY have been collecting items for Christmas in August. These items will be donated to Arlene Miller who is serving in Crofton, Kentucky. There is still time to donate items. Thank you for having a heart of giving!

We will begin our Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions in September. This offering will go toward revitalizing churches, harvesting the lost, reaching the underserved, meeting human needs, and equipping future generations. It is our goal to reach $1,200 this year. Please see the meter that is displayed in the education building to see our progress!

Jen & Katrina

Congratulations!

SSBC People in the News

Chris Gregg was pictured conducting the United We Sing 2015 orchestra in the FAITH.NOW online paper. A really nice article was written about the United We Sing 2015 effort.

Jennifer Stephens was pictured in the paper along with the Gibbs Pharmacy staff. Jennifer is the Education Coordinator for Gibbs Pharmacy.

Erin Etheridge is pictured in the paper, along with other Mt. Juliet Christian Academy students, visiting the beaches at Normandy, England during a Student Leadership University trip to Europe.

Levi Smith was pictured in the paper along with his Lebanon Youth Football Alliance BBB team (Blue Devils).

Clint & Leanne (Talley) Binkley on the birth of their baby girl Matilda Rose (Don & Pat Talley’s granddaughter).

Our sincere Christian sympathy is extended to Randy Botts in the death of his sister; to Chris Gregg in the death of his nephew; and to Diann Ambrose in the death of her grandmother.

Thank you to everyone for the prayers, phone calls, food, and most of all the emotional support while I haven’t been well. Thank you again, Sam Criswell

Dear Silver Springs Baptist Church,

Thank you so much for all of the stuffed backpacks. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated! Everyone needs a great neighbor like you. Thanks again, West Elementary

A Letter from Home Silver Springs Baptist Church Known College Students

Communication from home means a lot to college students. This year we have several students who are living at home or have relocated to continue their educational pursuits. Hearing from their home church from time to time can help the student in several ways. Below is a list of students in college. Please add them to your prayer list.

If you are, or have a college student not listed below, please contact the church office.

Come join us for Fuel Worship Service

(students 7th-12th grade) on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

From the Garage, Summer is over and what a bummer. A new school year is under way though and the new Sunday School Class is about to start. I'm really excited to see what God is going to do in our student ministry. We are in the process of planning dates for the upcoming calendar. Please continue to pray for the students that God will do big things in and through their lives.

1Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the

Lord, all the earth! 2Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. 3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! 4For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. Psalm 96:1-4

This scripture is an encouragement that SSBC is always declaring that the Lord is great! As I proclaim all the time, we have a “singing” church here at SSBC. The singing doesn’t stop when it leaves the choir loft. I see all the members of this amazing church, young and old, singing praises to glorify God. There truly is a spirit of joy that flows through this place. I am also not blind to the fact that our SSBC Worship Choir is the catalyst for our incredible worship. Since they do such a fine job of singing praises to the Lord every single Sunday, I will take just a moment and uplift them. We are now at a “loft busting” 33 members in our Worship Choir. With only 24 actual loft chairs for the platform, we are consistently bringing in folding chairs as we overflow the stage. The choir also makes my job so much fun. Wednesday nights are invigorating and our yearly choir retreats truly pump me up. Since they have been such an encouragement to me, I hope this can be an encouragement to them. Continue to pray for the SSBC Worship Choir so that we will always sing to the Lord a new song and declare His glory among the nations!

Great Night of Fun and Fellowship (All Men)

September 1 7:05 p.m. At the Nashville Sounds Park in Nashville

We can carpool or meet there. If you want to carpool be at the church and ready to leave by 6:00 p.m. They are playing Round Rock Express. Also, as Russ mentioned, this is a great opportunity to invite someone that doesn't know the Lord or have a church home. You never know how God might use your efforts!

Please let Eric Cummings know if you plan to attend and/or contact him if you have questions at 615-289-8652 or [email protected].

Men’s Ministry Breakfast September 5 8:00 a.m. Courtney’s

A Line from Lee (DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING)

I would like to first of all thank Eric and Katrina Smith for doing an outstanding job leading the War Room class. The message is powerful and the leadership has added emphasis to the power of prayer. This class has caused people to re-evaluate the quality of their prayer life and the discussions have helped strengthen one another as "iron sharpens iron." Also, to all the other teachers, I appreciate your continued efforts and faithfulness to serve in teaching about missionaries and the importance of missions.

Beginning on September 9 we will start our new Discipleship classes. We will have a preparation/rehearsal/set building class for the annual SSBC Christmas Performance. Chris Gregg will be approaching people in order to fill the cast and for some musical responsibilities as well. He will also need audio/visual personnel and individuals to help with set design. Chris will be leading this class in the Sanctuary. If you would like to help with the Christmas program, please come out on September 9 at 6:30 p.m. and see if there is a place you can serve. We will offer other classes, please watch for updates in the bulletin.

Thank you to all who attend on Wednesday evenings. You make discipleship training a success. It blesses my heart to see individuals and families striving to strengthen their spiritual lives and thrive in our world!

Blessings,

Lee Pierce
