Friday 17th May 2019 we are holding a powhiri at 10:00am for our new pupils and staff. Parents are welcome to attend. If you haven’t been to a powhiri before at Richmond School – please assemble outside the main doors at 9:50am and enter with the new staff and pupils there (manuhiri). If you have been to our powhiri before then please enter from the western door and sit with the main school group (tangata whenua). Please remove shoes before entering the hall. Ladies to wear a dress/skirt please.
There’s always new and exciting challenges and happenings at Richmond School. On Tuesday, about 9:30am, I had my first
ever ride in an ambulance to the hospital. A new but not necessarily an exciting one! After I turned up at school for the day,
I soon developed excruciating pain in my lower back. Shortly afterwards the office staff rang for an ambulance. After a dose
or two of pain-killers I was admitted to the hospital’s A&E department. After copious tests the prognosis was that I had a
kidney stone which luckily shortly discharged via one’s urine. I immediately stood up and was given the all clear to return to
school feeling better than I had for a few weeks! I can’t speak highly enough of our office staff, the ambulance crew and
hospital staff for their care and specialist assistance. The children and staff were very concerned about Mr Brenton and
how he was taken away to the hospital with a sore back. I can assure you I feel very healthy once again and even though it
was my first experience in an ambulance, it’s not one I wish to repeat in the immediate future!

STUDENT COUNCIL
POWHIRI
On Saturday I went to my rugby game. I scored two tries and I tackled four people from the other team. I
was so happy that my team won. I got player of the day. Then I went home. I was exhausted.

NEW EXPERIENCES AT RICHMOND SCHOOL
This term our annual, school-wide ‘Rich Topic’ inquiry is
the ‘Solar System’. Our Rich Topic team has devised a
range of outstanding ‘hook-ins’ to switch the children
onto the topic. The first hook being a visit to the space
control centre (hanger) set up in Room 16. The children
have loved it. All the classes visited and watched a shuttle
launch and a journey through the planets. WOW!!!
The Space Shuttle is open for parents to visit after school today and
Friday until 3:20pm.
A very big welcome to Alice Tuck who is in Room 4 for the next 7 weeks. Thank you to Jess Drummond for
being her Associate Teacher.
