MITSLOAN.MIT.EDU

BUILDING E62 - 100 MAIN STREET

Building E62 brings all of MIT Sloan School’s faculty under one roof and fosters interaction and collaboration. Designed with many sustainable features, it is also the greenest building at MIT. Flexibility was a conscious component of the building’s design and layout. The cafeteria, Siteman Dining Room, seats over 200 people, and is a central meeting area for studying and socializing. As you walk up the stairs to the second floor, you will see the School’s mission statement—the School’s guiding principle.

The second floor hosts several classrooms that seat up to 108 students, as well as 35 study rooms that allow for individual or group study. Sitting in the Bacardi Lounge on the second floor allows students and visitors to admire the panoramic view of the Charles River and Boston skyline. Floors 3-6 provide easy access to over 210 faculty offices and conference rooms, grouped by academic areas to facilitate collaboration and mentorship.

FUN FACTS ABOUT E62:

• Floor is made of crushed brown and green beer bottles

• There are 155-million-year-old fossils in the limestone on the stairs

• The privacy glass in the study rooms was custom designed to mimic the Charles River

• Famous pieces of art: bright yellow mural designed by late American artist Sol LeWitt; granite sculpture in the North Garden designed by Chinese artist Cai Gui-Qiang; metal sculpture in Gruber Family Courtyard titled “Two Indeterminate Lines” designed by Bernar Venet

BUILDING E52

Newly renovated E52 houses the School’s administrative offices for the academic programs and student services, as well as the MIT Department of Economics and the Samberg Conference Center on the 6th and 7th floors (a 20,000 foot glass-encased addition). Walk through floors 1-3 to find the Student Life, Educational Services, Action Learning, Admissions, MIT Leadership Center, and program offices.

FUN FACTS ABOUT E52:

• Building E52 was originally built in 1938 as the Massachusetts Headquarters for the Lever Brothers Company

• Interior bridges connect E52 to buildings E40, E51, E53, E62, and E60

• The Light Matrix art in the back vestibule is designed by Leo Villareal and is composed of 240 stainless steel rods each containing 72 LED lights. The patterns are controlled with a software program

BUILDING E51

After touring E52, cross the bridge on the third floor to Building E51, The Tang Center, MIT Sloan’s main classroom building—home to over 15 classrooms, the Wong Auditorium, and the MIT Sloan Career Development Office.

BUILDING E40

Exit building E51 on the first floor, and cross Amherst Street to the Muckley Building. Building E40 is the home to The Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship. The Trust Center provides the expertise, support, and connections students need to become effective entrepreneurs, and serves MIT students across all schools and disciplines. The Trust Center works closely with MIT and MIT Sloan departments, labs, centers, and groups to connect students with the best entrepreneurship programming across the Institute. The Center is also home to competitions, prizes, coaching, courses, events, and accelerator programs. Visit entrepreneurship.mit.edu to learn more.

In building E40, you will also find the Leaders for Global Operations program office as well as the Operations Research Center.

BUILDING E14

Exit the Trust Center on Amherst Street, take a right, and head down one block to Building E14, which houses The Media Lab, another MIT-wide center heavily utilized by MIT Sloan students. The Media Lab conducts research at the intersection of innovation, technology, multimedia, sciences, art, and design. Visit media.mit.edu to learn more about courses, research, projects, and events.
