Longville is blessed with many natural gifts — sparkling lakes, golden sand beaches, pristine forests, and abundant wildlife. We invite you to experience all that Longville has to offer. Stay at our fine lodging properties, fish our “great lakes,” visit our shops and restaurants, and enjoy our many activities.

The Longville Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce offers an extensive schedule of activities for all ages, all year long. These include our world-renowned summer turtle races, our famous daylong Fourth of July celebration, a “fly-in/drive-in” pancake breakfast at the Longville airport, and a very hometown Christmas tree lighting, complete with free hot chocolate and horse-drawn wagon rides.

You’re always welcome in Longville — visit as often as you’d like, stay as long as you can. We’re sure you’ll agree that Longville has something for everyone.

For more information on the Longville lakes area, please visit the Chamber’s website, www.Longville.com, or call us at 1.800.756.7583.

There’s something for everyone in Longville - year-round!

Captivating Year-RoundOur pristine lakes are our calling card. The Woman Lake chain is the acknowledged jewel of the area, with Girl Lake bringing boaters right into downtown. But the Longville area encompasses everything from small, quiet lakes to Leech Lake, the third largest in Minnesota.

The Water

2019 FISHING SEASONMay 11 Fishing Season Opener (Walleye & Northern)May 11 Bass Fishing Season Opener (Catch & Release Only)May 25 Bass Fishing Opener (Season Opener)June 1 Muskie Fishing Season Opener

In the summer these blue waters beckon fishermen and water skiers, canoes and sailboats, kayakers and swimmers. The tall pines and sandy beaches offer the perfect place to enjoy a book, a game of sand volleyball, or an evening campfire with songs and s’mores. And the fun doesn’t stop when the lakes freeze over because that ushers in ice fishing season!

Nestled in the heart of Minnesota’s lake country, we have resorts and campgrounds on eleven area lakes that offer some of the best fishing in the state. In addition to the much-sought-after walleye, anglers find muskies, northern pike, large- and small-mouth bass, crappies, bluegills, sunfish and other panfish, perch, tullibee, and rock bass in our waters.

Many of our lakes are connected by rivers and channels that offer miles of uninterrupted paddling via kayak or canoe.

Water isn’t all we have — our forests are nearly as famous as our lakes. We embrace a portion of the beautiful Chippewa National Forest and offer more than 100 miles of paved trails for bikers and inline skaters, plus specially designated routes for ATVs and OHVs. In the winter these routes accommodate snowmobiles, cross-country skiers, and snowshoers.

Longville offers a direct connection to the renowned Paul Bunyan State Trail via designated bike routes along County Roads 5 and 11. The Paul Bunyan trail is the longest bike trail in Minnesota, running 112 miles from Brainerd to Bemidji. It also connects with the Heartland, Blue Ox, and Cuyuna State Recreation Area trails, offering endless opportunities for hiking, biking and mountain biking, inline skating, cross-country skiing, running, geo-caching, and much more.

In the beautiful Chippewa National Forest, a section of the North Country Trail tracks right through the Longville area. As America’s longest National Scenic Trail, it offers hikers a unique opportunity to explore nature at its best. There are also hiking trails — and learning opportunities — at Deep Portage Learning Center, located on Big Deep Lake between Longville and Hackensack.

The Longville area is the perfect place to look for bird species, wildflowers, or just take in nature’s serenity with a quiet walk in the woods.

Hunting and trapping are also popular and our varied wildlife habitats offer the perfect opportunity to take full advantage of all the seasons. With all the lakes, plus state and national forests nearby, you’re never far from a place to hunt or trap. Popular quarries include deer, bear, grouse, ducks, geese, turkeys, rabbits, and fox.

Parks and Nature CentersWhen you’re in Longville, you’re never far from an outdoor experience.

Longville’s Stuart Park offers a pavilion with picnic tables and barbecue grills, a playground, pickleball, shuffleboard, tennis and sand volleyball courts, and skating rinks. The nearby Deep Portage Learning Center is an environmental learning center that offers hiking and skiing trails that are open to the public.

The Leech Lake Recreation Area in nearby Federal Dam offers scenic hiking trails plus camping and RV sites right on the lake shore. Camping, swimming, hiking, and sites for day-rental are also available at Mabel Lake National Forest Campground, located on Hwy. 200 north of Longville.

Nearby are the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, 5,000 acres of mostly undeveloped land with trails and lakes in and around the mining pits abandoned three decades ago; Schoolcraft State Park, a virgin pine forest with the Mississippi River running through it, popular with campers, hikers, canoeists and fishermen; Savanna Portage State Park, where you can hike the Continental Divide Trail, ride bikes, swim, fish, ride snowmobile trails, or cross-country ski; and Itasca State Park, 32,000 acres with everything from the headwaters of the Mississippi River and Preacher’s Grove to a 2,000-acre Wilderness Sanctuary.

When June arrives, the Longville Chamber brings the famous turtle races to town. On Wednesday afternoons, starting in June and ending in August, racers and their families converge on the racing circle right in downtown Longville, to enjoy food, fun, games, contests — and, of course, the iconic turtle races. This is how Longville earned the official title, “Turtle Race Capital of the World.”

Longville is famous for its old-fashioned 4th of July celebration, known for its daylong offerings of food and fun. Things start off in the morning with inflatable games for the children. People arrive early to line the streets for the parade, which comes right through town, followed by games for kids and adults. The day winds up with a spectacular fireworks display over Girl Lake.

Other summer activities include the Turtletown Art Fair and “a fly-in/drive-in” pancake breakfast sponsored by the Chamber, the Longville Flyers, and the Longville Firemen.

When autumn arrives, the Chamber participates in “Fall Has It All,” a 17-day slate of activities in Longville, Hackensack, Remer, and Walker. Longville events “kick-off” the first weekend, culminating in all-day Oktoberfest festivities the first Saturday.

The Chamber’s year is rounded out by participating in the Halloween SPOOKtacular at Camp Olson YMCA; sponsoring the popular "Brunch, Bubbles and Bling” Holiday Champagne Breakfast the second Saturday of deer hunting season, and hosting the very hometown lighting of the town Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The holiday season is then officially ushered in with open houses at many Chamber member businesses.

In addition, the Chamber holds the charitable gambling license for Longville, so the Chamber is responsible for the pull-tabs, meat raffles, and horse racing at three locations: Patrick’s on Girl Lake and the Docksider in Longville, and the Anchorage Inn on Inguadona Lake. By law, proceeds must be reinvested in the local community. Funds generated by charitable gambling are donated to many nonprofit organizations and projects throughout the year.

Chamber members are as busy as the Chamber itself, sponsoring events like art fairs, book and bake sales, holiday concerts, Music in the Park, and the annual Memorial Day program. There truly is something for everyone in Longville.

The Longville Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a variety of events and activities throughout the seasons, sure to create lasting memories. The fun starts the first Saturday in February with the annual Ice Bocce Tournament on Girl Lake. Ice bocce is a combination of bowling, curling, and bocce ball, with a little shuffleboard mixed in.

In early March, Longville celebrates winter with an exceptional fireworks display, also on Girl Lake. Then the Longville Lions partner with the Chamber to host the popular Easter EGGStravaganza, a free event with hidden Easter eggs and candy and prizes for local children.

Next up, on the first Saturday in May is the “Global 6K for Water,” an event that raises funds for clean water worldwide.

Public Library We’re the smallest town in Minnesota to have a public library — and our Margaret Welch Memorial Library is a member of the Kitchigami Regional Library System, which serves five counties and links us to programs and resources far beyond our municipal borders. There is also an active Friends of the Library group that organizes events and fundraisers to support the library and its mission.

Medical Care for All Your Needs Longville is fortunate to have a primary care clinic right in town. The clinic’s affiliation with the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Crosby directly links patients to the high-tech services of a comprehensive medical center. We also have a pharmacy downtown and 24/7 emergency medical care available through the North Memorial Ambulance service.

We’re one of the smallest towns to have a municipal airport (KXVG). Our airport offers the longest runway in a 50-mile radius, capable of handling small business jets, 24-hour self-serve fuel, and a courtesy car.

Located less than a half-mile north of town on Highway 84, the airport is within walking distance of downtown. Because Longville is centrally located among some 400 area lakes, when you touch down here, it’s a quick getaway to your favorite resort or vacation spot.

The airport offers a safe location for the North Memorial Air Care helicopter to intercept critical medical and trauma patients, and also provides a base of operations for local pilots who donate their time and aircraft for charitable flights through nonprofit organizations such as Angel Flights and Veterans Airlift Command.

The City of Longville is the airport’s governing authority, working with a volunteer citizen advisory board. The Longville Flyers, an active flying group, meets informally on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. at Patrick’s. All pilots and aviation enthusiasts are invited to join them for breakfast or coffee.
