ANNOUNCEMENTS

¶ Don’t Forget! Monthly Board Meeting on June 13 at 6:00 PM! ¶ The final Soul Saturday of the year will be on Saturday, June 18th. Divine Liturgy and Panachida with the reading of the hramoty (names of our departed) will be at 9:00 AM. Historically, this Soul Saturday before Pentecost is the earli-est one celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, coming at the end of the great 50-day period from the Feast of the Resurrection to the Descent of the Holy Spirit. It is very meaningful that we celebrate this near the site where many of our loved ones are laid to rest. Don’t neglect this prayer for the blessed re-pose of our family, friends and all the departed through the ages! ¶ Pentecost is June 19th. We commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, which enabled them to go out into the world and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations. Remember: Pentecost is the “Green Holy-day” (Zelena Svjata), since we decorate the church with greenery to remember the Holy Spirit as “Giver of Life.” Consider wearing something green to church on June 19th! On Pentecost, we resume kneeling in prayer, and offer the three Kneeling Prayers. It is also a celebratory time, and thus the entire week after Pentecost is fast-free! Meat may be eaten on Wednesday and Friday. ¶ Fr. David will be going away on Saturday, June 25 and returning on Mon-day, June 27. In case of an emergency in which you need the services of a priest immediately, please call one of the local Orthodox clergy: ⇒ Fr. Ken Bachofsky (St. Nicholas, Warren) 330-372-9778 ⇒ Fr. Stephen Loposky (Camp Nazareth) 724-662-4840 ⇒ Fr. Andrew Gall (St. John’s UOC, Sharon) 724-308-1406 ⇒ Fr. Spyro Keyhayes (Annunciation GOC, Farrell) 513-833-5859

¶ Location of Daily Services During Summertime: Unless otherwise noted,

daily services will take place in the air-conditioned church rather than in the

chapel. We will resume daily services in the chapel in the fall, when the

weather cools down!

Lenten “Self-Denial” Offering Report This past Great Fast, we collected $1018.00 in the “Self-Denial” Offering Boxes that were distributed to our parish-ioners. We shared this with two charities: one local, one in-ternational. $509.00 was sent to the Community Food Ware-house and $509.00 to the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC). Thank you for your contributions, and may God richly bless you!

Thoughts on Stewardship

by Dan Hromyak

"They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets." - Luke 9:17 The story of the Loaves and Fishes shows us that when we share what we have, even if it doesn't seem like that much, miracles can happen! Do not think that your gift is too small or insignificant! God blesses all the gifts we offer and makes the wondrous. "And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, 'Do not weep.'" - Luke 7:13 This verse is a great reminder that the Stewardship lifestyle is one of service, putting God first and to "love one another." Unfortunately today, many people have "passion" for activities they enjoy - their job and off-work activities. Many times our "passion" to excel is at the expense of someone else. Maybe we need to focus on a little less passion for our individual concerns an a lot more compassion for others.

¶ HISTORIC “GREAT AND HOLY COUNCIL OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCH” is taking place in Crete over Pentecost! Information was in the last bul-letin and this bulletin. Prayers are being offered in all churches of our Diocese for this Holy Council, and we are all encouraged to pray at home for this intention as well. The following prayers were distributed by the Chancery: PRAYER #1: FURTHERMORE WE PRAY O MOST GRACIOUS, SAVING AND BEFRIENDING GOD, WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE MAGNIFICENCE OF YOUR GOODNESS TO ALL ORTHODOX PEOPLES THROUGHOUT TIME. AS THE HOLY AND GREAT COUNCIL OF OUR CHURCH CONVENES, WE PLACE OUR PRAYER PETITIONS BEFORE YOUR THRONE. OUR PARISHES COLLEC-TIVELY SEEK YOUR BLESSING ON THE WORLD-WIDE HIERARCHY OF OUR CHURCH AS THEY GATHER IN COUNCIL. WE PRAY THAT YOU TOUCH THE BISHOPS’ MINDS AND THEIR HEARTS AS THEY CONVENE IN CON-CILIARITY AND COMMUNION. LET THE HOLY SPIRIT DESCEND FROM HEAVEN AS HE DID IN THE JERUSALEM CHURCH ON THE HOLY DAY OF PENTECOST – UNEXPECTEDLY, SURPRISINGLY AND BREATHTAKINGLY. WE PRAY FOR OUR BISHOP GREGORY AS HE TRAVELS TO AND FROM THE HOLY AND GREAT COUNCIL IN CRETE, FOR HIS SAFETY AND WELL-BEING, AS WELL AS FOR SAFETY-IN-TRAVEL FOR ALL THE BISHOPS. HEAR US, O LORD, AS WE THUS PRAY, AND HAVE MERCY. AMEN. PRAYER #2: FURTHERMORE WE ALSO PRAY THAT THE GRACE OF YOUR SPIRIT, O GOD, AT THIS HOLY AND GREAT COUNCIL, PROPEL ALL OUR BISHOPS INTO A NEW ERA OF UNITY AND HEALING. MAY THEY RETURN FROM THIS COUNCIL WITH RENEWED VIGOR AS HOLY EXAMPLES FOR OUR PRIESTS, DEACONS AND THOSE SERVING IN MINOR ORDERS; FOR OUR MONKS AND NUNS AND OTHERS IN RELIGIOUS SERVICE; AND FOR THE ORTHODOX PEOPLE EVERYWHERE, THAT WE ALL TOGETHER MAY BE FILLED WITH YOUR GRACE TO GO OUT INTO THE STREETS OF OUR CITIES AND TOWNS, PROCLAIMING THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL AND UP-HOLDING THE ETERNAL TRUTHS OF OUR FAITH AGAINST THE WILES OF SATAN. GIVE ALL OF US THE STRENGTH TO RAISE THIS WORLD AS AN OF-FERING, PERFECT AND UNBLEMISHED, TO YOU OUR FATHER FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME. IN ALL OF THIS WE ASK OF YOU, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US, O LORD, AND HAVE MERCY. AMEN.
