In 1993, Danish mother Nanny Glerup hand-crafted a pair of slippers using the

natural wool from her own Gotland sheep. So well were the slippers loved by family and friends, that Nanny’s hobby soon became a

small-scale production – two pairs a day!

That was the beginning of Glerups.

Nanny and her husband Ove worked hard over the years to improve Glerups. Many

machines and tools were invented and trashed to keep up with growing demand for this indoor shoe. Today, Glerups “addicts” all over the world get their daily “fix” of 100% pure, natural wool that is still crafted with love and care from the

sheep to your foot.

Handmade from 100% pure natural wool

The wool is washed in soft water, then carded and felted. The felt is formed into socks, which are steam-felted for a perfect fit before soft calfskin

soles are glued, then sewn on, for lasting durability.

How nature creates wool

The technical wonder of wool starts at the root of the fiber. Before leaving the

sheep’s follicles each wool fiber is coated in sweat salts and grease (lanolin), which together form a perfect “clothing” for the sheep. The lanolin protects the wool fiber against sun, rain and

wind. The lanolin and the lye in the sweat salts work together to keep the sheep clean. When the sheep

gets wet, the basic salts of lye dissolve and together with the lanolin form a natural “soap” to keep the

sheep clean. The sheep can keep the same “clothes” for many months without being uncomfortable. Glerups’ soft water wash has the same effect. It

activates the salts of lye and lanolin to create the natural “soap” just like in nature,

to clean the wool.

In the wool fibers’ outer layers, fat and protein are so tightly bound to each other that the wool fiber is completely closed to fluids. Water vapor can pass through to keep you comfortable while sweat cannot get into the actual wool fiber ensuring less perspiration

odor to keep people around you comfortable.

Wool keeps the sheep’s bare skin just the right temperature and it will do the same for your bare skin.

We recommend that you try your Glerups without socks. Wool and skin work naturally together.

Wool is self-cleaning. However, if periodic cleaning is required,

your Glerups can be washed in the washing machine on the “wool,” “hand wash,” or

“delicates” program (max 30 ° c).

It helps to vacuum or blow your shoes clean of dust before washing. After a spin-dry put your feet

into the wet shoes. pat your Glerups into shape, remove, and leave to air dry. your Glerups

love fresh air.

How to measure tHe lengtH of your foot properly 1. place the heel against a wall. 2. Measure from the wall to the tip of your longest toe.

note: One foot is often longer than the other, so measure the longest foot. For children add 10mm to the measured length, leaving room for small feet to grow.
